VOINews, Tangerang: In recent years, classic cakes have seen a resurgence in popularity, gaining increasing demand among the Indonesian public. Despite the growing influx of foreign dessert options, these traditional treats are cherished for their nostalgic value.

"Indonesians generally prefer sweet flavors, but the main reason behind the appeal of these classic cakes lies in their soft, rich textures," said Eka Sri Aryianti, Marketing Manager of PT Gandum Mas Kencana (GMK), in a statement made in Jakarta on Saturday. The familiar taste and comforting textures have made these cakes a popular choice once again.

One example she highlighted is the chiffon cake, which is made with a generous amount of egg yolks, giving it a light and fluffy texture that is well-loved by many. The traditional cake has been given a modern twist with contemporary packaging, adding to its appeal and contributing to the rising trend of classic desserts.

Iman Setia Nugraha, Creative and Corporate Communication Manager of PT GMK, added that one of the key events promoting this trend is ChocoTrenz 2024: NOWstalgia , a celebration of past and present dessert creations. The event blends the nostalgia of classic cakes with modern touches, offering a unique fusion of traditional and contemporary flavors.

"NOWstalgia draws inspiration from various themes, one of which is 'Classic,' a timeless favorite. Another key theme is 'Nostalgic,' highlighting flavors from the past that have become trendy today because they evoke nostalgic memories for those who enjoy them," explained Iman.

The event not only focuses on flavor but also on visual appeal. The cakes are designed to be "Eye Candy," with an emphasis on stunning, modern aesthetics. This combination of nostalgia and eye-catching design adds to the cakes' market value, making them even more desirable.

This blend of tradition and modernity has allowed classic cakes to thrive amidst stiff competition from international desserts. By offering a familiar yet innovative experience, these cakes appeal to a wide audience, from older generations who remember them fondly to younger consumers looking for something new yet comforting.

With events like ChocoTrenz 2024, PT GMK aims to continue reviving classic desserts, ensuring they remain relevant and sought-after. This celebration of traditional cakes, paired with modern marketing strategies, is helping preserve the legacy of Indonesia's beloved sweets while also adapting them to contemporary tastes.

In conclusion, the growing demand for classic cakes in Indonesia underscores the powerful connection between food and memory. As consumers continue to seek out these nostalgic flavors, the trend is likely to endure, offering a taste of the past with a modern twist./ANTARA/VOI
