VOINews, Jakarta: Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises, Teten Masduki, has expressed strong confidence that Indonesia is on the path to becoming a global leader in the furniture industry. With the country's vast potential and the strength of its local products, Indonesia is well-positioned to make its mark on the international stage.

"I am optimistic that Indonesia can become the world’s home décor hub. Based on the latest data, our furniture and handicraft products have successfully exported goods valued at USD 3.5 billion and provided employment for 143,000 workers across 1,114 companies," Teten stated during the opening of the IFFINA Indonesia Furniture & Design Expo, held from September 14-17, 2024, in Tangerang.

Teten emphasized that Indonesia’s vision of becoming a global economic powerhouse has fueled efforts to expand the market access of the country's furniture industry. He believes that this vision will not only strengthen the local economy but also elevate Indonesian products to compete in the global marketplace.

Despite the positive outlook, the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs continues to focus on enhancing the capacity of local MSMEs in the furniture sector. "We have established shared production houses, which is a step towards encouraging aggregation models while ensuring that production quality meets international standards," said Teten.

He further highlighted the importance of strategic collaboration between business actors and the government to boost the industry’s global competitiveness. Teten believes that strengthening the synergies between various stakeholders is key to driving the sector forward.

"Collaboration between MSMEs and aggregators, through programs aimed at producing competitive products that can be accepted in global markets, is essential," he added. Teten's remarks reflect the government's commitment to ensuring that Indonesia's furniture industry continues to grow and develop in a sustainable and competitive manner.

Teten is confident that the ongoing efforts of the government will help elevate MSMEs in the furniture sector to new heights. With abundant and diverse raw materials, Indonesia’s furniture industry has the potential to become a significant global player.

"I hope that through the IFFINA exhibition, we can further expand the domestic market for the furniture industry while introducing our local products to the international stage," Teten concluded, underscoring the importance of such events in promoting Indonesia's burgeoning furniture sector./ANTARA/VOI
