VOInews, Jakarta : The National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (Perpusnas) handed over assistance from Special Allocation Funds (DAK) for Physical Assignments for the Regional Library Sub-Sector for FY 2025 amounting to IDR 10.65 billion to the Kudus Regency Government, Central Java.

The assistance was handed over directly by Acting Director of National Library E. Aminudin Azis to Acting Kudus Regent Hasan Chabibie, Saturday (30/11/2024).
Plt. The Director of the National Library said that literacy development is an important foundation for the success of human resource development, especially in facing the challenges of Golden Indonesia 2045.

According to him, literacy is not only the responsibility of the government, but also society and professional organizations.

“Let's work together to build this literacy. "It cannot be denied, the level of literacy skills in Indonesia is still low, and we must work together to change that," he stressed.

He said that the cause of society's low literacy level was a lack of access to books that suited readers' interests. Therefore, the National Library together with the Ministry of Education and Culture continues to strive to provide quality books that can meet the literacy needs of the community.

"We also encourage the movement to provide quality books that will enrich people's interest in reading. "The more books available, the easier it is for people to choose reading that suits their interests," he explained.

According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Wednesday December 4th 2024 in Jakarta, as part of efforts to increase literacy, National Library distributed 1,000 book titles to village/sub-district libraries, communities, and Community Reading Parks (TBM) to expand the reach of reading materials to remote areas.

"Starting in 2024, we will target 10,000 reading loci in villages and TBMs. This program is expected to provide greater benefits for the community, especially in areas where access to educational resources is still limited," he added.

On the same occasion, 1,000 book titles were also handed over to 14 village/district libraries and four TBMs in Kudus Regency. Meanwhile, Acting The Regent expressed his gratitude for this physical DAK assistance.

"Thank you to the National Library for providing funds for the construction of the library building. Hopefully this can improve the quality of education and literacy of the Kudus community," he said.

Apart from physical development, Acting. The Regent of Kudus also emphasized the importance of digital literacy to encourage people to sort information.

"The library is not only a place to read, but must also be able to encourage people to sort information critically and improve their logical thinking skills. "In this way, information received through digital media will be more productive and useful," he continued.

The Acting Regent of Kudus added that construction of the new library building is planned to begin in 2025, with the location being built in the Balai Jagong Kudus complex. This building is expected to become a literacy center that can support improving the quality of education and human resources in Kudus Regency//VOI
