Indonesian Trade Ministry holds Good Design Indonesia-GDI for the 2nd time. This event is an award of the best product designedin Indonesia. The event is aimed to introduce domestic products that have added value through the development of design, as to encouraging the performance of Indonesia's non-oil exports to the world market. Director General of National Export Development Arlinda explained, in the GDI this year, the Trade Ministry is in cooperation with Japan Institute of Design Promotion as the organizer of a G-Mark design competition in Japan that has been running since 1957. Through thecooperation, the GDI winners have opportunity to go straightly in the G-Mark competition Phase II. The Good Design Indonesia 2018 is supported by Japan External Trade Organization. At the launch of Good Design Indonesia 2018 at the Ministry of Trade in Jakarta on Monday(23/4), Arlinda said that this activity is expected to motivate and encourage business actors to develop design-based products, so that Indonesian products can be export-oriented especially to Japan.

Our target for Good Design is actually clear. We want to participate in G-Mark. G-Mark is a design event where almost all the world's designs are competed in it. If we are allow to get into the G-Mark market, or the Japanese market, this is a very good thing for us,” Arlinda said.



Arlinda further explained that the Good Design Indonesia 2018 event is open to all business actors and designers, who produce their designed-products in Indonesia, and marketed in Indonesia. GDI 2018 is opened since April 17, 2018 to May 15, 2018. There are six categories of products, namely furniture and home decoration, home appliances, lifestyle and accessories, packaging and graphic design, as well as transportation and electronics. The winners of GDI Award will be givenopportunity for product promotion by the Ministry of Commerce. In addition, the winners have the opportunity to perform in exhibitions of national and international products and gain recognition by using the GDI logo. The GDI event was firstly held in 2017. The 3rd Asia Pacific Rainforest Summit is being held in Yogyakarta starting from April 23 - 25. After opening the summit on Monday, Minister of Forestry and Environment, Siti Nurbaya Bakar explained that there are many agendas of forest protection on the biennial meeting.

“Firstly is to restore degraded forest landscapes and to protect forest with high conservation value. Secondly, from the summit, we can formulate national policy to protect rainforests as the precious treasure in the world, besides supporting economic development by preservation,” Siti Nurbaya Bakar said.

Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar moreover said that the 3rd Asia Pacific rainforest summit is also aimed to develop national system to protect forest. The 3rd summit which is being held until Wednesday 25/4, consist of presentation from representatives of Asia Pacific countries, meeting among officials, scientific meeting, and visiting social forest area in Gunungkidul as well as Merapi protection forest. Navy warship of the United Kingdom, HMS Albion, is visiting Indonesia and anchoring at Tanjung Priok Port Jakarta for three days, from April 22 to 24, 2018. The vessel is a sea-transport ship from the UK. Built by BAE System Marine at Barrow-inn Furness, Albion was launched in March 2001 by Princess Royal. During anchored in Jakarta, the ship's crews will conduct a series of activities including those involving the Indonesian Navy. In addition, during their visit to Indonesia, the ship crews led by Captain Tim Neild will also take time to visit the orphanage located near the harbor.

“So, by bringing a ship like Albion we look to explore those complementarities to see how we can learn from each other and how we can add each other’s with his capability. So, we can be the better partner together for the future. So, during this deployment, the Albion and the captain will be having a talk and exchanges with the Indonesian Navy. We will be doing that in conjunction with the French colleague. We will also be doing some public diplomacy. You saw the children from the orphanage early on the day. Some sailors will out to the orphanage and will engage with the children. They are looking to understand Indonesian Islam, visit a Pesantren, get the sense on how life is in Indonesia,” said British Ambassador to Indonesia Moazzam Malik in Jakarta on Sunday, April 22.

In addition, Ambassador Moazzam Malik said that HMS Albion's visit in Jakarta is also aimed to invite Indonesia to be more involved in its role in the international world. The Ambassador also said that Indonesia is a G-20 member country with a large economy and democracy. Therefore, the United Kingdom wants to invite Indonesia and see Indonesia more independently. Two warships of the French Navy, participants of the Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo 2018, anchor in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, from April 22 to 24. The ships are a French Navy Ship Dixmude, an amphibious carrier and commando, and FNS Surcouf a stealth frigate. The Commander of the Patrol Ship Unit of Primary Base of Navy III, Colonel Salim, said that the crewmen of the two vessels will carry out various activities in Jakarta, including joint exercises with the Western Fleet Command of the Indonesian Navy, TNI-AL.

“The purpose of the French ships here, firstly to follow the Komodo Exercise drills. After leaving from here to Lombok, Bali, until Wednesday. They will also carry out courtesy calls to the Navy Main Base, then to the Navy Officers, the local government, the mayor, and joint sports. There will also be a boat trip. Finally there will also an invitation dinner and maritime discussion, the passing exercise with the Indonesian Western Navy Fleet Command,” said Colonel Salim to the media, on the sidelines of welcoming ceremony of FNS Dixmude and FNS Surcouf on Sunday (22/4).

Colonel Salim further added, that the arrival of FNS Dixmude and FNS Surcouf in Jakarta, is a manifestation of fellow seafarers and Naval Diplomacy. The two Vessels are also to strengthen the relationship of fellow navies around the world as well as enhance bilateral relations among countries. In connection with the two vessels' schedule visit to Bali prior to the Komodo Multilateral Naval Exercise 2018, from May 4 to 9, Colonel Salim said the French Navy will meet with a number of partners to discuss the improvement of defense relations with Indonesia.
