Chief of the Indonesian Police (Polri) General Tito Karnavian led the Indonesian delegation to the 39th ASEANAPOL Conference 2019 held in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Wednesday.
During the conference, Tito highlighted the importance of ASEAN police cooperation to create security stability in the Southeast Asian region.
"(The cooperation is needed) particularly to address transnational crimes and support the realization of economic development for the benefit of the nation's progress and prosperity," he said in a written statement released on Wednesday.
Security stability in the region played a significant role in the global economic dynamics. Other countries will praise ASEAN for its resilience and high economic growth particularly in the midst of the weakening global trade and economy, he said.
"The superiority and success of the ASEAN economy will materialize only if the security stability can be maintained optimally," he said.
He said the ASEANAPOL conference played a strategic role in optimizing ASEAN police cooperation.
"The cooperation can be realized in various forms of operational activities such as information exchange to prevent crimes as early as possible, and joint efforts to prevent and handle crimes in border areas," he said.
In addition, the cooperation can be expanded to cover human resources development through education and training courses as well as discussion and intensive and sustainable courses, he said.
He further lent support to strengthen the operational aspects of ASEANAPOL through the development of strong and integrated data center.
However, he added the efforts will materialize only if all police organizations joining ASEANAPOL and the governments of member states have strong will. ANTARA

The Indonesian paragliding team won the Paragliding Accuracy World Championship 2019 held in Vrsac City, Serbia, from September 9-17, 2019, which brought together pilots from 128 countries.
Indonesia secured the first place in terms of accuracy, followed by China and Colombia, spokesperson of the Indonesian Embassy in Beograd, Eni Diponegoro, on Wednesday.
Indonesian Ambassador to Serbia, Mochammad Chandra Widya Yudha, attended the closing ceremony of the event and the conferment of the medal on the Indonesian paragliding team.
The ambassador said he was very proud of the performance of the Indonesian paragliding team that had competed in a sporting manner during the Paragliding Accuracy World Championship. The Indonesian paragliding team comprised eight of the best athletes, including Jafro Megawanto, two-time gold medalist of the Paragliding Asian Games 2018. Megawanto is the fourth champion in the men's individual category. ANTARA

The Indonesian government through the Directorate General of Customs and Excise will on Wednesday re-export nine containers of toxic and hazardous waste to Australia.
"Today we will re-export it to its country of origin," Director General of Customs and Excise Heru Pambudi said at a press conference in Jakarta Wednesday. The Tangerang Customs Office in cooperation with the Environment and Forestry Ministry has taken action against three companies suspected of receiving the toxic and hazardous waste. The three companies have been identified by their initials as PT HI, PT NHI and PT ART.
One of the companies even imported the waste without the required documents, Heru said.
The first investigation was conducted on PT HI which imported 102 containers of plastic sheets and artificial plastic of various kinds. The investigation was jointly conducted by the customs office and the ministry which found 23 containers contaminated by garbage and toxic and hazardous waste.
As a result, the customs office recommended the re-export of 13 containers of hazardous waste to Australia, seven containers to the United States, two to Spain and one to Belgium.
"The remaining 79 containers were declared clean and can be issued usage permits," he said,
The second measure was conducted on PT NH which imported 138 containers of chips. ANTARA

The Indonesian fashion industry contributes 18 percent of state revenues, Chief of the Creative Economy Board (BEKRAF) Triawan Munaf said. "The contribution of the fashion industry to the state revenue is large, reaching 18 percent or about Rp1,500 trillion," he said at a press conference in Jakarta Tuesday.
Therefore, the country should strongly support the fashion industry, particularly batik, so that it will continue to grow, he said.
One of the challenges facing the batik industry is the emergence of imported clothes with the batik motif which deals a blow to domestic batik producers.
"Batik is a method. We are facing an onslaught of foreign textiles with batik motif. The community is already aware of it. Hence, they must protect (batik). Batik is handwritten batik and stamped batik. Printing is not batik," he said (ANTARA)
