The world soccer governing body, FIFA has appointed the East Java provincial capital of Surabaya as the host of the U-20 World Cup in 2021. Speaking to the press Monday, Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini said she was pleased to hear of the appointment of Surabaya as the host of the event and was ready to repay the trust.

Surabaya is ready to host the event, Risma said. She hoped that by hosting the event, Surabaya’s children could fulfil their dream of being world-class football players.

Surabaya’s children can also be employed as ball boys and girls when the event is on, she said.

"I will be pleased to see children walk hand-in-hand with the world’s players," she said.

After receiving the FIFA letter, the mayor received visits from several executive board members of the East Java chapter of the All Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) to discuss preparations for the event (ANTARA)

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has named Penajam Paser Utara and Kutai Kertanegara in East Kalimantan Province as the sites of the new capital city.
 
"We have concluded that the most ideal location for the new capital city is partly in Penajam Paser Utara District and partly in Kutai Kertanegara District," Jokowi revealed at a press conference at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, flanked by Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
 
Jokowi reiterated that the government had conducted studies on candidates of the new capital city in Kalimantan Island.
 
He elaborated that East Kalimantan had met the requirements to be the new capital city that entail minimum risk of natural disaster and located at the heart of Indonesia. The site is also close to big cities, such as Balikpapan and Samarinda, and it has 180 thousand hectares of government-owned land.
 
According to the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas), development of the new capital city will be started in 2021, and the construction of government buildings is targeted for completion in 2024. (ANTARA)

Indonesia's athletes made their nation proud by pocketing four gold medals at the TOTAL BWF Para-Badminton World Championships 2019 held on August 20-25, 2019, in Basel, Switzerland.

Sapta Kunta Purnama, the Indonesian para badminton team’s manager, was unequivocal in expressing his contentment during the medal award ceremony held at Jakobshalle, Basel, on Sunday.

"So far, it has met our expectations. Winning four gold, three silver, and four bronze medals are in accordance with our target," he affirmed.

The four gold medal winners were Deva Anrimusthi in the men's singles SU5, Leani Ratri Oktila in the women's singles SL4, Hari S/Leani Ratri in the mixed doubles SL3-4SU5, and Deva A/Hafiz B in the men's doubles SU5.

Silver medal clinchers were Suryo N in the men's singles SU5 and Leani R/Khalimatus in the men's doubles SL3-4-SU5.

Bronze medal winners constituted Fredy S in the men's singles SL4, Khalimatus in the men's singles SL4, Ukun R in the men's singles SL3, and Ukun R/Hari S in the men's doubles SL3-4.

Indonesian badminton athletes participated in Basel in preparation for the Tokyo Paralympic 2020.

According to his observation, China has, until now, been the dominant team.

From Basel, Indonesia's para badminton team will compete in the China Open to be held in Beijing and the Japan Open in Tokyo.

th TOTAL BWF Para-Badminton World Championships was held concurrently with the TOTAL BWF World Championships at the same venue since the inaugural event in 1998. (ANTARA)

Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Mohamad Nasir opened Research, Innovation and Technology (Ritech) Expo 2019 as part of the commemoration of the 24th National Technology Awakening Day in Puputan Renon Square in Denpasar, Bali, on Sunday.

"Through this expo we hope more innovations in regions will emerge," he said.

The expo has some 200 stands which display the results of research and innovation. Nearly 100 participants including the directorate general of research and innovation, and the directorate of science, technology and high learning institutions at the Research, Technology and Higher Education Ministry.

The other institutions taking part in the expo are the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI),, the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN), the Nuclear Control Agency, the National Standardization Agency, the Center for Scientific and Technological Research and state-owned companies PT Dahana and PT Industri Kereta Api (Inka).

Institutes of higher learning also took part in the expo, including Airlangga University,the Bogor Institute of Agriculture, Sepuluh November Institute of Technology in Surabaya., the Arts Institute of Denpasar and the state Electronic Polytechnic in Surabaya.

Ritech Expo is an annual expo held by the Ministry of Research., Technology and Higher Education.
