Along with the technological advancement, radio as a media has more difficult challenges. Broadcasting technology which also develops, does not guarentee the sustainability of radio, especially in Asia. 

“We have observed that there are many fast-paced technological advancements in broadcasting industries and countries already created groundbreaking strategies which will change the whole face of this industry. However, many Asian countries are still practicing traditional broadcasting. So exploiting before benefits of technological advancements demands effective collaborations with organizations,” said Acting Director of Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development, Philomena Gnanapragasm in her speech at an opening Radiodays Asia 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Tuesday morning (August 27).

On the same occasion, Futurology Radio expert from Australia, James Cridland to Voice of Indonesia said that although it must compete with podcast and streaming services, radio is still a leading media which continuously connect with its listeners.

“A lot of challenges of course, you know obviously access to mobile phones, access to Sportify, and podcasting, and all of that. It's a clear part of where radio is going. But I also think that actually we shouldn't forget the benefit that radio has. It's being a shared experience, with human connection, that human being at the other end, who is helping you understand what's going on in the world, is a very important part of what radio is all about. I think we should bear that in mind and focused on helping our audiences,” saidJames Cridland.

James Cridland further explained that he ensures that radio has a good future and strong. While, listeners will definitely enjoy it until the next 10 years. (VOI/STEVE/AHM)

The Mayor of Padang Mahyeldi is one of speakers at the 5th ASEAN Mayors Forum with the theme Driving Local Action for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth at the United Nations Conference Center (UNCC) in Bangkok, Thailand, Monday. During the forum he explained how to anticipate and overcome the disasters that have been implemented in Padang and what have not been done to the cities attending the forum. In a special interview with Voice of Indonesia in Jakarta, Tuesday (27 / 08) Mayor Mahyeldi said that radio, especially Radio Republik Indonesia, was an important information tool during the disaster.

"In connection with information coordination, we are using Radio Republik Indonesia. It's true that in Padang when there was an earthquake, when there was a flood and when there was a tsunami potential, we would immediately operate with Radio Republik Indonesia in Padang," said Mahyeldi

Mahyeldi further said that compared to other countries, Indonesia is superior in handling disasters, for example by preparing shelter and local regulations on development. He also added that in terms of disaster management, Indonesia had also collaborated with several countries, such as Chengdu in China and Wellington, New Zealand. (VOI / RIZKI/AHM)

To answer challenges from technology development and disruption of media, activists of media from many countries especially from Asia attended a conference of Radiodays Asia 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 27-28 August 2019. The conference was also the first time held    in Asia. It was attended by tens of speakers from many aspects of radio industries. Founder of Radiodays Europe and Radiodays Asia, Anders Held in his speech hopes that Radiodays Asia 2019 can present better programs for listeners.

“…Radiodays Asia is here today. Now, we are joining hands to create this new, professional event as a meeting point for radio in Asia as part of the world. I'm convinced, we can learn from each other. We can inspire each other. We can develop our content and businesses, to give our listeners even better radio in the end of year,” said Anders Held.

The Radiodays Asia 2019 has more than 30 topics divided into 2 tracts held together. The main topics discussed are the future of radio, the use of social media for radio, the presence of  podcast / fake news as well as the condition of radio in many countries.  The only one speaker from Indonesia at Radiodays Asia 2019  is Kemal Mochtar, an announcer at one of private radios in Jakarta and with other announcers namely Maddy Barber from Singapore and Ean Nasrun from Malaysia. President Joko Widodo hopes that the handling of garbage and waste will become the attention of all his staff. This is due to the positive and negative impacts of waste which are partly used by industries in the country and on the other hand are detrimental to the environment.

When chairing a Limited Cabinet Meeting on Tuesday (27/08/2019) afternoon at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, President Joko Widodo said a number of control measures had to be taken to maximize the potential of such garbage and waste.

In addition, President Joko Widodo mentioned the importance of the existence of strong regulatory aspects in the management of garbage and waste imports to accelerate the resolution of the problem. The President also stressed the importance of law enforcement and close supervision of imported garbage and waste entering Indonesia.

"We must maximize the potential of existing waste in the country first for the needs of our industry. Second, the regulations need to improve the governance of garbage and waste imports so that the settlement will be immediately accelerated. Third, strict enforcement and supervision, as strict as possible for the import of garbage and waste entering Indonesia," said President Joko Widodo.

Furthermore, the President also stressed the importance of strict steps that must be taken by law enforcement officials if they find all forms of violations in the field related to the import of garbage and waste.

The President also underlined the importance of coordinating relevant ministries so that there are no different views among the ministry related to handling of garbage and waste imports.

The President explained that the problem of importing trash and waste not only occurs in Indonesia but also has become the concern of the global community. (VOI/Ndy/AHM)
