President Joko Widodo highlighted the high level of difficulty faced by investors in the region. In a Government Working Meeting on Accelerating Business Implementation in the Regions at the State Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday, the President cited the high interest of investors to invest in the country but is often hampered by licensing issues. In a meeting attended by several cabinet ministers and regional leaders, the President said that Indonesia has now gained international trust to invest. It should be supported by the ease of running business through easy licensing schemes, both at the central and regional levels.

“Thousands of investors want to invest in our country. But the problem is within ourselves. The problem is in investments that are still hampered by licensing affairs. Therefore this afternoon we gather all the governors, the provincial Parliament chairmen so that we have a common guide, a shared vision to solve the problem because soon we want to build a single submission preceded by forming a task force, especially in the central government it should be connected with investment destinations so that we all have the same persepctive to solve the problem, "the President said.

The President further said the government has issued various economic policy packages that have been issued by the central government but have not been followed up by the head of the region. This, according to the President, will reduce Indonesia's competitiveness compared to the ease of doing business in other countries. According to the President, Indonesia's low competitiveness is due to licensing difficulties and a number of requirements that investors must meet so investors turn their heads to other countries. The President urged the regional heads to no longer issue local regulations that would hamper foreign investment to the country. (VOI-ANDY R/AHM)
