The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) meeting was officially opened virtually in Malaysia today. Previously, there were several meetings and statements of APEC leaders regarding the global economic conditions due to the pandemic that has hit the world for several months. A joint statement by APEC ministers on Monday (16/11) outlined the need for free, fair and non-discriminatory trade practices to promote economic recovery from the pandemic and structural reforms to promotion of sustainable and inclusive growth. On Thursday afternoon before APEC officially opened, Chinese President Xi Xinping declared that the future of the world economy would be in China. However, the Chinese leader did not discuss too deeply the conditions of his country's continuing trade war with the USA. Meanwhile, Indonesian President Joko Widodo introduced the Omnibus Law as a legal product that will facilitate the investment process in Indonesia.

Four days ago at the ASEAN Summit Meeting, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) was signed as a further reaction to the Trans-Pacific Partnership bloc that former US president Barack Obama had pushed to strengthen the regional economy.

The world is now looking forward to whether this virtual 2020 APEC Meeting would produce meaningful steps to improve the world's economic conditions shaken by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Voice of Indonesia presents “Let’s Speak Bahasa Indonesia,” a lesson in the Indonesian language on the Radio. We introduce some Indonesian vocabulary and tips on how to use it in a conversation. This segment is a joint initiative of Voice of Indonesia and the Language and Book Development Agency of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture.  Today’s topic is Membeli Tiket Nonton  in English ‘Buying movie tickets’.

Now, I am going to introduce some vocabularies and expressions related to the topic today.

If you want to buy a movie ticket, you can immediately mention a film you will see and number of ticket you will buy, such as the sentence: Saya mau pesan tiket film Gundala untuk dua orang which means ‘I want to buy tickets of Gundala movie for two persons’.

Usually, the ticket officer will see the empty chairs and give a recommendation of movie schedule by saying: Untuk jadwal filmnya, mau pesan tiket yang pukul berapa? Which means‘What time of movie tickets do you want to order?’.

To respond the question, you can say: Ya, saya pesan tiket film yang tayang pukul 4 sore which means‘I order movie tickets for the show at 4 o’clock PM’

Other examples:

Ticket officer: Untuk jadwal filmnya, mau pesan tiket yang pukul berapa? Which means ‘What time of movie tickets you want to order?’.

Kevin:  Saya pesan tiket yang tayang pukul dua saja which means ‘I order movie tickets for the show at 2 PM’

Kevin:  Saya mau pesan tiket film Gundala untuk dua orang which means ‘I want to buy tickets of Gundala movie for two persons’.

Ticket officer:  Ya, baik. Kira-kira mau pesan tiket yang tayang pukul berapa? Which means ‘Ok. What time of movie tickets for the show do you want to order?

Kevin:  Saya mau pesan tiket film yang tayang pukul dua saja which means ‘I want to order the movie tickets for the show at 2 PM’.

In the Indonesian language, the precise word to express time is pukul. The word pukul will be followed by numbers and adverb of time such as pagi (morning), siang (afternoon), sore (evening) or malam (night).

For example: Film itu akan tayang pukul 5.00 sore which means ‘the film will play at 5 PM’.

Minister Retno: adaptation and international cooperation are key to resolve transnational crimes

Organized crimes continuously happen even in the health aspect such as drug counterfeiting and cyber-attacks on vital health infrastructure amid the coronavirus pandemic. This was stated by Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi in her speech at the 20th Anniversary of the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) which was held virtually from the UN Headquarters in New York on Friday (13/11).

This commemoration was also attended by Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres and President of the UN General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir. Minister Retno conveyed 3 points to face the challenges of transnational organized crime. First, there is no one-size fits all solution that can handle all types of organized crimes. She also emphasized that the characteristics of transnational organized crimes tend to be different from one country to other countries. Therefore, the approach taken must be situational.

Second, it’s important to build and maintain cooperation among countries globally. Particularly, Minister Retno also delivered about the issues of Rohingya refugees as a form of crime of smuggling and organized human trafficking in the region. Currently, Indonesia is accommodating more than 900 people who have become victims of human trafficking and displaced on the high seas. Indonesia re-emphasizes the importance of solving the Rohingya problem from the root of the problem through voluntary, safe and dignified repatriation. Third, the approaches and solutions taken must experience adaptation based on the characteristics of crimes. In this regard, Minister Retno re-affirmed   the importance of continuous adaptation so that the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) remains relevant in handling organized transnational crimes both now and in the future.

East Nusa Tenggara –NTT is a paradise for nature lovers. Biodiversity, peace and beauty of NTT’s land that stretches from the air, land to the seabed seem to become everyone's dream. This natural charm is able to attract the attention of both domestic and foreign tourists. NTT as the most exotic province in Eastern Indonesia offers millions of biodiversity that is worth being explored. West Manggarai is also an area that offers a row of exotic tours. One of them is Koaba Island or also known as Kalong Island which is located not far from Komodo National Park. This island is included in the 7 wonders of the world and is a large habitat for giant bats or also called Kalong that inhabit a row of exotic trees on the island.

The detailed location of Koaba Island is located in Manggarai Regency, precisely in the Mbeliling protected forest area in Labuan Bajo. To get to the island, if you depart by plane, you can get off at the nearest airport or it is recommended to get off in Denpasar, Bali. From Bali, you can continue your trip by taking a long-distance ferry for approximately 4 to 5 hours to East Nusa Tenggara. Arriving there, take a public bus to the port of Labuan Bajo, then continue by speedboat or canoe to Koaba Island for about 8 km or it takes about 1 hour by sea transportation. Although it is a bit tiring on the way, when you get there, you will be presented with a very beautiful view. All your tiredness will be paid off with this beautiful view.

This small island with dense forest and surrounded by blue sea water containing millions of marine animals and plants is the home of thousands of large bats or Kalong that perch in the trees during the day and roam from evening to night to hunt. Even though it is inhabited by thousands of bats, many visitors say that it is a little difficult to find bats because the nocturnal nightlife is difficult to navigate. However, you can try to see them around 6 PM. There are no lodging facilities on this island. So, it is highly recommended that you enjoy some diving spots in the island area while waiting for the night creature to appear. Tour managers near the port have provided rental masks, fins, buoys, gas cylinders to diving and swimming suits. Spending time in natural tourism areas such as Koaba Island is the most appropriate choice to be able to see directly the greatness of God who has given privileges to Indonesia with its diverse culture, natural charm and biodiversity.
