Chinese IT Giant Huawei Calls UK Ban From 5G Network Politicized, Not Related to Security

Huawei UK believes that the UK government's decision to remove the Chinese tech giant from the development of 5G networks is politicized and has nothing to do with security issues. Earlier in the day, UK Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Oliver Dowden said that the government would ban Huawei-produced equipment for 5G networks beginning at the end of the year. In addition, UK mobile providers will have to completely remove Huawei equipment from the country's 5G networks by 2027. According to Dowden, this decision was made over national security considerations and sanctions imposed by the US against Huawei. Huawei UK spokesman Ed Brewster called the decision bad news for anyone in the UK with a mobile phone. According to him, connections will become slower and tariffs will rise. UAE postpones Mars mission due to weather at Japan launch site

The United Arab Emirates –UAE has postponed to July 17 the launch of its mission to Mars due to weather conditions at the launch site in Japan, the United Arab Emirates government communications office said on Tuesday (July14). The UAE's Hope Probe was due to set off from Japan's Tanegashima Space Center at 12:51am UAE time on Wednesday (2051 GMT Tuesday) for a seven-month journey to the red planet where it was due to orbit and send back data about the atmosphere. The government communications office tweeted that the UAE’s space mission, the Arab world's first interplanetary mission, will launch on Friday July 17, 2020 at 12:43am UAE time (July 16, 2020 at 8:43pm GMT) from Tanegashima Space Center. US punishes senior Chinese officials over Uighur rights

The United States on Thursday (Jul 9) took its first major action to stop "horrific" abuses against China's Uighurs and other Turkic Muslims, slapping sanctions on several senior officials. Three officials will be refused US visas and see any US-based assets frozen including Chen Quanguo, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) chief for the Xinjiang region and architect of Beijing's hardline policies against restive minorities. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the United States was acting against "horrific and systematic abuses" in the western region including forced labour, mass detention and involuntary population control. A political row has broken out in India after gold was found being smuggled into the country in diplomatic baggage.Customs of ficials at the international airport in the southern state of Kerala found more than 30kg of gold hidden inside bathroom fittings. The package was addressed to the United Arab Emirates' consulate in Thiruvananthapuram. The UAE has denied any knowledge of the package and said a former local employee had been arrested. In a statement on Twitter on Tuesday, the UAE embassy in India capital Delhi said an investigation had been launched after the discovery was made. The mayor's body was found at Mt Bugak in northern Seoul around midnight, near where his phone signal had last been detected, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said. Venice Film Festival forges ahead with reduced lineup

The show will go on for the Venice Film Festival in September, but with a few modifications due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizers said that they are pushing forward with plans for its 77th installment, which will include a slightly reduced number of films in the main competition as well as some outdoor and virtual screenings. If the schedule stays intact, it will be the first major film festival since COVID-19 essentially shut down the industry in mid-March. Festival director Alberto Barbera said in a statement that he is extremely pleased that the Biennale Cinema can be held with a minimum reduction of films and sections and that a significant number of directors and actors will accompany films to the Lido. German Ambassador to the United Nations, Christoph Heusgen said on Tuesday (July7) that he is hopeful the UN Security Council will be able to reach a consensus and adopt a resolution re-authorizing the cross-border aid delivery mechanism in Syria. The 15-member UN Security Council is set to vote later on Tuesday on a draft resolution that would extend the cross-border authorization to bring humanitarian assistance from Turkey for an additional year until the existing authorization expires on July 10.
