Conservative Party leader Rishi Sunak has sworn in by King Charles III as Britain's new Prime Minister (PM) in an official ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday (25/10/2022).

Responding to the inauguration of the new British Prime Minister, the Director General of Information and Public Diplomacy (Dirjen IDP) of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu), Teuku Faizasyah in a Press Briefing in Jakarta Thursday (27/10) said that the Indonesian government had congratulated on the inauguration of the British Prime Minister.

According to Faizasyah, in the context of bilateral relations, Indonesia believes that both Indonesia and Britain already have what is called a strategic partnership.

"The strategic partnership that has been agreed upon by the two Foreign Ministers in 2022 includes politics, economy, and several other strategic aspects. And the strategic partnership is a guide or let's say the road map for the Indonesian and British governments in building bilateral relations," said Faizasyah.

He said that the strategic partnership built by Indonesia and the UK would be the focus of enhancing bilateral relations.

"We will continue the strategic partnership that has been built by the two countries. On the other hand, of course, in addition to the British government in the near future, it will continue to concentrate on various domestic issues. But on the other hand, there are some things that are of common interest and are already on the track, such as cooperation in the field of green investment and carbon emissions,” said Faizasyah.

In addition, Faizasyah hopes that the two countries can continue to build cooperation and improve closer relations for the sake of mutual interest in the future. (VOI)
