PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply (0)
State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.
In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.
Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.
"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.
The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.
Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.
PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.
Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.
"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.

IPW lauds police over arrest of 24 terror suspects

Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) chief Sugeng Teguh Santoso has lauded the National Police over the arrests of 24 terror suspects following the December 7, 2022, suicide bombing at Astanaanyar police precinct in Bandung, West Java.
"IPW appreciated the National Police's success in arresting 24 terror suspects in West Java, Central Java, and North Sumatra in the run-up to 2022 Christmas and 2023 New Year celebrations," he said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The police need to take such preventive measures, particularly ahead of the holidays, such as Christmas and New Year, he added.
According to IPW's notes, the arrest of the 24 terror suspects was the success made by Densus 88 (the National Police's Anti-Terrorism Squad) in mapping terrorist networks and de-radicalizing former terror convicts, he said.
Former terror convicts need to be embraced so that they do not return to their terror networks or become lone wolves because of exposure to misleading ideology, he added.
Chief of the public information bureau of the public relations division of the National Police, Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, informed here on Wednesday that Densus 88 arrested 26 terror suspects in 5 provinces in December 2022.
The 26 suspects, who are members of the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) and Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) terror networks, were arrested in Central Java, West Java, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Riau,
"Of the 26 suspects from the two terrorist networks, 14 belong to the JAD network and 12 belong to the JI network," he said.
Seven of the terror suspects were arrested in Central Java on December 1, 2022, 6 in West Java, 10 in North Sumatra, and 1 in West Sumatra and Riau each.
The suspects were arrested before and after the suicide bombing at Astanaanyar police precinct in Bandung, West Java, which left one police officer dead and scores of others injured. (Antaranews)

Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Lyudmila Vorobieva on Wednesday expressed her government's appreciation to Indonesia's G20 presidency which she said ran well.
"Once again, we are looking forward to expressing our appreciation to Indonesia's G20 presidency and we are very grateful to the Indonesian government for all of its efforts to make G20 a success and focus on the specified priorities," she said at a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Vorobieva also said she praised Indonesia for its success to keep G20 concentrating on relevant and important economic issues rather than to let it be a politicized forum.
Although Russian President Vladimir Putin did not attend the G20 Summit in Bali in November 2022, he sent a message congratulating President Joko Widodo on his success in chairing the G20 Summit, she added.
"Also as a concrete outcome of the presidency, (the G20 Summit) has adopted a declaration. Earlier, various forums could not achieve it because of differences in views " she said.
She said Russia had made every effort to support Indonesia's G20 presidency. Russia continued to attend a series of G20 meetings throughout 2022.
Although President Putin could not attend the G20 Summit in person, he appointed Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to represent him, she said.

Regional policies can help reduce violence against women: minister

The policies issued by regional governments can help reduce cases of violence and immorality targeting women and children, according to Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Bintang Puspayoga.
"We always ask regional heads about policies related to women and children because these policies can reduce cases of violence and immorality. We are advocating (the policies) as the Governor of Bengkulu focuses on assisting victims of immorality," Puspayoga said here on Tuesday.
She further said that in accordance with President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi's) directives, her ministry is focusing on solving and reducing violence against women and children in Indonesia.
She said the ministry needs all ranks of government as well as society to help resolve issues that cause harm to women and children.
In addition, Puspayoga also urged victims of sexual violence to not be afraid and summon the courage to speak out about the incident.
"(There are still) many victims who are afraid to report and consider it an aib (shame). (Because of this), we will not be able to provide justice to the victims and deterrent effect to the perpetrators," she said.
Meanwhile, the ministry has set a budget for the non-physical Special Allocation Fund (DAK) for handling cases of violence against women in the regions.
Although the fund has been distributed to 34 provinces and 216 districts and cities, there are still hundreds of regions that have not received the fund.
Meanwhile, Bengkulu Governor Rohidin Mersyah explained that his administration has asked local governments to form task forces for the protection of women and children and the provision of assistance to victims. The task forces will be set up at the village, sub-district, district, city, and provincial levels.
"Since 2020, the Bengkulu Women and Children Protection Office has involved the district and city governments to form a task force for the protection of women and children. The office will be more productive when its functions are distributed to the communities," he said. (antaranews)

Agency to conduct research on artifacts found at Meratus Geopark

The Meratus Geopark Management Agency (BP) will conduct research on recently discovered archaeological objects in the geopark area to strengthen the social and cultural heritage wealth of the tourism destination.
Deputy Chairperson of Meratus Geopark BP Nurul Fajar Desira informed that the archaeological research would be carried out in 2023 at Pa'au village and Riam Kanan reservoir area in Banjar district as well as at Liang Bangkai Cave in Tanah Bumbu district, South Kalimantan province.
"The results of this research will enrich the wealth of the Meratus Geopark in the future, thus they need to be disseminated to the national and international community," he said on Tuesday.
Earlier, a bracelet and an axe, presumed to be ancient relics, were found at Pa'au village. Meanwhile, a stone axe was discovered on Sirang Island’s Riam Kanan Reservoir area.
Furthermore, prehistoric paintings and prehistoric human fossils were found in the Liang Bangkai Cave.
"It (the finding) needs to be investigated, (especially regarding) the estimation of which year they (the prehistoric humans) lived in the area," the deputy chairperson of the agency stated in a webinar on the development of collaboration for making Meratus Geopark a priority tourism destination.
The development of tourism facilities within the conservation zone of the geopark area is still allowed, but not on a massive scale, he informed.
"Construction of tourism facilities which highlight natural, social, and cultural characteristics (of the geopark area) is still permitted, but it must not be conducted massively. There must be no buildings which damage existing nature," Desira remarked.
Footpaths to the protected forest, fences, and other facilities are still allowed to be built, with permission from the South Kalimantan Forestry Office, he added.
Meanwhile, the Tanah Bumbu Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) has closed the areas where the archaeological relics were discovered over concerns that the relics might suffer damage at the hands of tourists.
"We are still keeping the human bone artifacts (from being displayed) for fear of (their) being damaged by visitors. We hope that archaeological research on these findings can be carried out (soon)," the head of Tanah Bumbu Pokdarwis, Imam, said.
Meratus Geopark was declared a national geopark in 2018. Currently, it is preparing to be included as a UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp).
To date, Indonesia has 19 national geoparks out of which 7 have been recognized as UGGp, namely Batur, Sewu Mountains, Ciletuh, Mount Rinjani, Lake Toba, Belitong, and Maros-Pangkep. (Antaranews)

Over 68 mln Indonesians get first COVID booster

The number of Indonesians receiving the third dose or first booster of the COVID-19 vaccine rose by 41,117 to reach 68,014,914 as of Tuesday afternoon, the COVID-19 Handling Task Force reported.
According to data received from the task force in Jakarta, an additional 11,900 people got the first dose on Tuesday, taking the total number of first-dose recipients to 203,924,746.
The data also showed that the number of people receiving the second dose increased by 15,469 to 174,616,077.
Meanwhile, 4,813 more Indonesians received the fourth dose or second booster, bringing the total number of second booster recipients to 1,100,943.
The government has set itself the target of administering the COVID-19 vaccine to 234,666,020 people as part of efforts to build herd immunity against the disease that affects the human respiratory system.
The task force also reported that the country added 1,297 COVID-19 infections on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the number of patients recovering from COVID-19 rose by 2,781 and the number of patients succumbing to the virus increased by 27.
Earlier, the Health Ministry issued a circular letter asking regional governments to prepare for the mobilization of people during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
"Since the 2022 Christmas and 2023 New Year celebrations are still in the COVID-19 pandemic, health authorities need to go on standby to prevent and control COVID-19 disease," Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said in Jakarta on Tuesday. (Antaranews)

Indonesian women must become independent, resilient: minister

Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Bintang Puspayoga has urged Indonesian women to become independent, empowered, and resilient.
"For women throughout Indonesia, be an independent woman, be a strong woman. Keep working, innovating, and being creative," she said at the “Women’s Inspiration Fest Awarding Night” in Jakarta on Monday, according to a statement received the same day.
This is important in the midst of inequality in access and participation that many women's groups still face.
In addition, women, who make up nearly 50 percent of Indonesia's population, are the support and foundation of the state from a social and economic perspective.
Minister Puspayoga highlighted the need for making more significant efforts to recognize women's contributions.
According to her, Indonesian women have become more advanced in thinking, working, and making real contributions to their surroundings, so their potential must also receive support from all parties.
"When we talk about women's contributions, this is actually extraordinary. Indonesian women are great and extraordinary women, there is no term that is impossible and cannot be done by women, as long as they are given the opportunity," the minister said.
Meanwhile, House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani lauded the contribution of women at the ‘Women's Inspiration Fest’ competition in which many women won photo and writing competitions in various categories.
"As women leaders, we must help and support Indonesian women to work together to build the nation and the state. Apart from that, as women leaders, we must work harder to prove that we (women) are capable," Maharani said.
Equal participation of women and men is key for the welfare of a nation, deputy for gender equality at the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, Lenny N. Rosalin, said earlier.
"Equal and full participation of women and men is the key to the welfare and success of a nation," she observed during a national webinar on "Optimizing Women's Potential in Entrepreneurship with a Gender Perspective,” which was followed from here last Tuesday.
Based on an analysis by the McKinsey Global Institute, Indonesia can increase its gross domestic product (GDP) by US$135 billion per year by 2025 if women's economic participation is increased, Rosalin pointed out.
For this reason, efforts to empower women in the economic field need to be strengthened, she said.
Based on data from the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), in 2019, there were a total of 65.5 million business units in Indonesia. Of the number, 99.99 percent were micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
"More than half of those MSME players were women," she highlighted.
Indonesian MSMEs contribute around 61 percent to the total GDP and absorb 97 percent of the workforce in the country. In addition, they account for 60 percent of the total investment in the country.
"If we do this (women's economic empowerment) simultaneously and jointly, I think in 2025, we can increase our GDP," Rosalin said.
It is believed that women who are economically empowered can become a part of the solution for issues affecting women and children, she added.
"If the economy is advanced, their children can be sent to higher education. They (children) can be provided with better nutrition so that stunting can be suppressed. Compulsory education can be increased up to 12 years, and finally, the quality of human resources can also improve," she explained. (antaranews)

Ministry to focus on tourists' safety, security during holiday period

Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno has said that his ministry will focus on ensuring the safety and security of foreign and domestic tourists during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
"Regarding Christmas and New Year, it (the focus) has shifted. If, last year, the focus was the readiness in health (aspect), this time, still in the CHSE (Cleanliness, Health, Safety, Environment, Sustainability) concept, the focus is on safety and security," he said at the Presidential Palace here on Monday.
Uno made the statement after attending a limited meeting on the preparations for Christmas and New Year, which was led by President Joko Widodo.
"Therefore, tourism facilities, tourist attractions, and creative economy centers must ensure the safety and security so that tourists, whose number is predicted to reach more than 40 million, can carry out tourism activities safely, comfortably, and of course, pleasantly," he said.
According to him, the preparations for Christmas and New Year holidays have reached the final stage, and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will ensure that tourism and creative economy activities run safely, comfortably, and pleasantly during the holiday period.
The minister also informed that events, including music concerts, will be allowed to take place to push the economy and open business and job opportunities in the country.
There has been an increase in the length of stay of foreign tourists, whose number so far has reached 3.6 million, Uno noted.
"The length of stay has moved from an average of three days before the pandemic to above ten days now," he said.
He further noted that this could have a positive impact on the economy, with tourism revenue now expected to reach above the target of US$1.7 billion to around US$6 billion. (anraeanews)

Govt, USAID work with hospitals to streamline TB information system

The Ministry of Health and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) are working with several hospitals to strengthen the integrated information system for identifying tuberculosis (TB).
"We can handle TB in Indonesia thoroughly with cross-sectoral support and synergy, including through hospitals that have extensive networks in regions, such as Siloam Hospitals and other private hospitals that have been recognized. The (TB) handling also needs support from the community," the ministry's Director General of Disease Prevention and Control Maxi Rein Rondonuwu noted in a statement on Monday.
Rondonuwu remarked that TB could be handled maximally through cross-sectoral synergy and cooperation.
Deputy Director of the USAID Health Office for Indonesia, David Stanton, deemed it crucial to address the problem of unidentified TB cases.
According to Stanton, the private sector plays a key role in supporting Indonesia's goal of identifying TB patients.
A strong health information system is essential to ensure that all TB patients are reported and receive quality TB treatment.
Stanton explained that the United States, through USAID, supports the Health Ministry's ONE HEALTH integrated health information system vision by connecting hospitals' information systems with the TB information system. The system allows TB cases to be reported and treated.
Siloam Hospitals, as a health service with 41 hospital networks, is also committed to the synergy of cooperation with the Ministry of Health by connecting hospital information systems with the TB information system to accelerate TB elimination.
The commitment is realized through the Cooperation Agreement for Strengthening Tuberculosis Control Implementation with Managements of Big Chain Hospitals.
Director of Siloam Hospitals, Grace F. Indradjaja, stated that from all of its hospital networks, Siloam Hospitals had treated over three thousand TB patients, and 10 thousand TB patients are currently undergoing outpatient treatment.
"Technically, the most (frequent) TB treatment problem handled by Siloam Hospitals is the handling of TB drugs because, on average, patients do not take drugs regularly," she remarked.
In 2021, as many as 443,235 confirmed TB cases were reported in Indonesia, and in children, the figure stood at 42,187 cases. (antaranews)

Regional gov'ts should promote events to neighboring regions: Ministry

The Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry urged regional governments that will organize an event to promote it to neighboring regions.
"Thus, the promotion is not only directed toward the national level but also to neighboring regions, so that the mobility of visitors from local regions can increase," the Ministry's Tourism Product and Activity Organizer Deputy, Rizki Handayani, explained.
The ministry also encouraged event organizers to strengthen coordination with related stakeholders in organizing the event, she noted through an official statement on Monday.
Coordination with stakeholders that encompassed local governments and security forces is deemed to be one of the pillars that determine the success of an event.
"This coordination plays a very important role, so that the event can be held safely and successfully," she noted during the 2022 Tourism and Creative Economy Coordination Meeting held here.
To facilitate permit management for the organizing of events, the event promoter and organizer should consider recommendation from related stakeholders.
"With a recommendation letter, event licensing will also be easier to issue," she elaborated.
Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Ferry Suwandi stated that the event organizer can coordinate with the Intelligence and Security Unit in the police headquarter that exists at the event's region to obtain a recommendation letter from the police.
"Later, we will see whether the event should be coordinated with the local Regional Police's Intelligence and Security Directorate or not," he remarked.
"If (the event permit) should be coordinated with the Regional Police, one of the required documents is the recommendation letter issued by the local police headquarter," he noted.
Handayani made the remarks during the "Special Interest and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) Marketing and Tourism" session of the national coordination meeting.

Uno invites tourists to experience Borobudur civilization tour

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno extended an invitation to tourists visiting Borobudur Temple, a national super-priority tourism destination, to experience the Borobudur Trail of Civilization (BToC) tour.
"The program will educate us about the heritage around Borobudur Temple. There is advanced civilization (knowledge) that we could adapt to our current lives," Uno stated during the tourism product development facilitation handover ceremony in Magelang, Central Java, as per the statement here, Monday.
The BToC tour focuses on the interpretation of narratives from Borobudur Temple relief panels and their implementation according to local potential and culture in 16 villages within the Borobudur Temple area. Visitors are offered nine theme tourism trails.
He commended the tour as a quality cultural tourism product that has the potential to encourage the growth of local tourism and creative economic actors through providing supporting facilities and tourism site arrangement, as well as improving human resources.
By offering an attractive tourism package relevant to Borobudur Temple outside the temple itself, the program also aims to help preserve the temple that has a tourist carrying capacity of one thousand, he remarked.
"We have completed the Borobudur civilization trail, (and we invite you to) visit Borobudur and enjoy the BToC tour," Uno stated.
Apart from developing the new tourism package, the ministry also provides assistance in managing media and promotion and tourism package development to increase promotional and marketing reach.
The tourism package will include homestays operated by locals around Borobudur Temple that could offer new experiences for tourists, who will mingle with locals and experience the local way of life.
The minister also encouraged residents to spend their year-end holidays in Indonesia while ensuring that efforts had been taken to maintain tourism security from disaster and other threats.
"We assure you that there will be no security threats potentially harming your visit. We have also coordinated with regional authorities to increase vigilance against potential natural disasters," he remarked. (antaranews)
