PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply (0)
State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.
In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.
Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.
"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.
The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.
Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.
PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.
Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.
"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.

ASEAN Summit to discuss cooperation on human rights, democracy: Mahfud

The ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, from November 9–12, 2022, will discuss cooperation in the field of democracy and human rights, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, has said.
"A number of strategic topics will be discussed at the forum, including cooperation in the field of democracy, human rights, intelligence, and common security," he informed in a statement streamed on the Youtube channel of the ministry on Monday.
Mahfud will accompany President Joko Widodo—who will officially take over the ASEAN chair from Cambodia—to the summit.
"Of course, what the ASEAN Summit wants to achieve is (the goal of) the long-established basic principles, that is, a peaceful, secure, and prosperous region for the ASEAN community, which is increasingly becoming larger," he said.
ASEAN is a highly-respected forum in the world. Its neutrality is expected to build calmness and peace in international relations.
"This must be strengthened in the future," the minister said.
Other strategic issues that will be discussed at the ASEAN Summit are the South China Sea, human trafficking, and Myanmar, he added.

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin on Monday attended the opening ceremony of the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP-27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
The opening ceremony at Sharm El Sheikh International Convention Center (SHICC) brought together delegates from 110 countries. Amin represented President Joko Widodo and led the Indonesian delegation at the meeting.
Upon arrival at SHICC, Amin was greeted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, according to a press statement received in Jakarta on Monday.
Climate change is an essential issue for every country and will be one of the topics of the joint agenda of the COP-27.
The priority issues that will be discussed at COP-27, which is themed “Together for Implementation,” include adaptation, loss and damage, finance, mitigation, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, and climate change-related transparency.
Indonesian negotiators at COP-27 will focus on the need for implementing various decisions and mandates from COP-26 held in Glasgow, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Long Term Strategy (LTS), and funding commitment.
At conference, Indonesia aims to achieve the target of increasing action on the climate change adaptation and mitigation ambition, especially in developing countries, so that it helps accelerate efforts to create enabling conditions, including through the creation of strong domestic policies in line with the aim of the Paris Agreement.
Indonesia will also stress the urgency and significance of support for developing nations through capacity building, development transfer, technological application, as well as the mobilization of funds for climate change coupled with coherent fund flow for low carbon and climate change-resistant development.
The mobilization of public funds remains a key enabler for climate funding, especially adaptation action.
As a maritime country, Indonesia is aware of the importance of improving understanding about the ocean and climate nexus by strengthening scientific work through research and development and marine observation for data management and collection. (antaranews)

Indonesia successfully curbed land, forest fires during 2020-2022

Indonesia succeeded in reducing land and forest fires as well as tackling cross-border haze in the past three years, Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya stated.
"We need to underscore that Indonesia succeeded in preventing fires that might cause haze during three years of the pandemic from 2020 to 2022," the minister remarked at the Indonesia Pavilion of the 27th Conference of Parties of the UNFCCC (COP-27) in Sharm el-Sheikh that was followed virtually from Jakarta on Sunday night.
Reducing deforestation is one of the strategies to achieve net emission absorption in the forestry and land use sector or FoLU Net Sink 2030, she stated during the UN climate change conference.
Land and forest fires are one of the issues that the government continues to handle to curb the deforestation rate by involving the public in the social forestry program, among other things.
According to the ministry's data, land and forest fires covered an area of 296,942 hectares in 2020, 358,867 hectares in 2021, and 183,743 hectares in the year ended September 30, 2022.
The figures represented a significant drop as compared to 1.6 million hectares in 2019.
The strategy of implementing FoLU Net Sink 2030 also focuses on conserving and managing forests in a sustainable way, with the aim of reducing forest degradation caused by over-logging and forest encroachment.
Indonesia also continues to take steps to protect and restore peatland and mangrove forests. (Antaranews)

Pertamina supports Indonesia’s goal to reach net zero emissions 2060

State-owned energy company PT Pertamina (Persero) supports Indonesia’s aspiration to reach net zero emissions by 2060.
Indonesia has increased its greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction target to 31.89 percent, with its efforts, and 43.20 percent, with international assistance, through the Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) document.
“In terms of emission reduction, Pertamina has set a target of 30 percent emission reduction in 2030, versus our 2010 baseline,” Pertamina's president director and CEO Nicke Widyawati said in a panel discussion of UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, on Sunday.
In 2021, Pertamina have succeeded in reducing GHG emissions by 7.4 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents or 29.09 percent compared to the 2010 baseline.
This emission reduction is achieved by reducing non-routine emissions from the process, which is utilized for own-use fuel and gas supply to customers as much as 69,7 percent, using more efficient equipment which is included in Energy Efficiency Program, contributed 13.9 percent, using energy from low carbon source that contributes 16,2 percent and other activities.
In order to reach net zero aspirations, Pertamina has developed a holistic strategy delivered via two pillars, which are the decarbonization of its business activities and the development of new green business; as well as three enablers namely developing carbon accounting standards that already approved by national and international regulation, and also the implementation of Pertamina Internal Carbon Price, building sustainability organization that will oversee Pertamina business are on the right track for its Net Zero Roadmap goals and stakeholder engagement to fully support national NZE target and commitment
Such a goal is supported by the company’s long-term investment strategy. Pertamina's cumulative CAPEX up to 2060 for the Green Business Initiatives is estimated at around US$40 billion for biofuels, renewable energy sources, CCS/CCUS, battery and EV ecosystem, hydrogen, and carbon business.
Widyawati added that Pertamina accelerates green business development from upstream to downstream through the whole integrated value chain.
“Pertamina is committed to supporting the Indonesian government's commitment to achieving net zero by 2060 or sooner. As an energy company, Pertamina has a big responsibility to be a pillar of achieving net zero emissions in Indonesia, on the principles of affordability and fairness,” she concluded. (antaranews)

Police Deploys Thousands of Personnel to Secure Bali G20 Summit

The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has prepared 1,759 seconded personnel from 10 Polda in Indonesia. This is to anticipate in the context of securing the peak of the G20 Summit (Summit) which will be held in Bali on November 15-16.

Second delivery of FMD vaccines from Australia arrives in Indonesia

An additional 3 million doses of foot and mouth disease (FMD) vaccine doses supplied by the Australian Government have arrived in Indonesia.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong and said the delivery of 3 million doses of FMD vaccine donated to Indonesia is part of a $10 million biosecurity program funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to support Indonesia’s response to FMD.
“Australia is committed to supporting the biosecurity of our region,” Minister Wong said in a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Tuesday.
“These vaccines are in addition to the 1 million FMD vaccines provided to Indonesia, in August 2022. These are currently being rolled out and administered to cattle in Bali, and Sulawesi," he added.
“A total of 4 million FMD vaccines have now been delivered, demonstrating Australia’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s response to the FMD outbreak and further highlighting the close partnership between our two countries," he said.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry Murray Watt said the biosecurity program provides a range of support including technical assistance for Indonesia’s vaccination efforts, training for vaccinators, support for national control planning, and assistance with surveillance systems.
“We are deeply committed to supporting our neighbors to manage FMD, as it is in all our interests to ensure this outbreak is managed and eventually defeated.
“This delivery continues our comprehensive approach to keep Australia FMDfree by helping our neighbors respond to the outbreak, strengthening our biosecurity border measures, and enhancing our preparedness at home," he said. (VOI)

Escorting the G20 Summit, TNI deploys troops and electric cars

The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) ensured that the G20 Summit was held safely and smoothly. The title of TNI troops is carried out by three dimensions, namely the TNI AD, TNI AL, and TNI AU. The Indonesian Navy has prepared 12 Republic of Indonesia Warships (KRI) to secure the G20 Summit.
"This is to secure the country's leaders, so we must really prepare ships that are ready for combat," Chief of Naval Staff (KSAL), Admiral Yudo Margono said in a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Monday (31/10/2022).
The deployment of troops was also carried out by the Indonesian Air Force at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, East Jakarta, on Friday (28/10/2022). Air Force Chief of Staff (KSAU), Air Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo said the activities of the G20 Presidency on 15-16 November 2022 made Indonesia the center of international attention. In this G20 Presidency, the Indonesian Air Force has the task of securing the airport, the aerodrome, the movement of state aircraft, and escorting the VVIP.
"For this reason, all Indonesian Air Force personnel who are involved must prepare themselves, understand their duties and master every given procedure, and be able to display the best performance, especially in the tasks of securing the G20 Presidency, and the task of state defense in the air," said Fajar.
The security readiness was also conveyed by the Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General Dudung Abdurachman.

In addition to the readiness of the troops, TNI Headquarters sent 252 Units of Battery-Based Electric Vehicles (KLBB) to support the activities of the Summit. The electric vehicle consists of 42 units of escort cars consisting of 12 units of the Hyundai Ioniq type and 30 units of the Hyundai Ioniq Five type produced in 2022 from South Korea.
Meanwhile, 126 units of escort motorbikes and 84 units of rescue motorbikes equipped with helmets, jackets, pants, shoes and gloves are the Zero SRFM brand produced in 2022 from the United States.
"This vehicle is to support security and escort tasks for Heads of State or Heads of Government," said Kapuspen TNI Rear Admiral TNI Kisdiyanto on Monday (31/10/2022).
The delivery of the KLBB to Bali was carried out on October 28, 2022. For the four-wheeled KLBB it was sent by sea using the KRI Tanjung Kambani-971, and for the two-wheeled KLBB it was sent by land using a trailer.
Previously, the TNI Commander, General Andika Perkasa said that the TNI had deployed thousands of soldiers to ensure the safety of the heads of state and delegates who would attend the G20 Summit in Bali, November 15-16, 2022.
Of the total 18,030 personnel involved, the TNI dominates with more than 14 thousand personnel. The rest came from the police and other institutions, namely 3,200 from the National Police and 492 from other institutions.

Ministry lists four keys to promote inclusive business

Cooperatives and SMEs Ministry detailed four main keys in promoting inclusive business in the ASEAN region.
First, coaching and mentoring as means to support the transition towards inclusiveness in businesses. Secondly, the crucial role of digital transformation and green economy for inclusive business in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
"Thirdly, the importance of partnerships between MSMEs and big businesses in expediting MSME participation in the supply chain," the Advisor to the Cooperatives and SMEs Minister for Inter-Institutional Relations, Luhur Pradjarto said in an official statement received here on Sunday.
Fourth, being forming an inclusive entrepreneur as first measure in establishing inclusive business.
Pradjarto said that inclusive business was necessary effort to eradicate extreme poverty and face global issues.
"(When we) talk about inclusive business, (we talk) about how a business possess the awareness to give actual impact on the Bottom of Pyramid (BoP) in facing global economic challenges," he added.
He said it was also important to form a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) which would support economic recovery into a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient one in the future.
Moreover, innovation was a factor for business development in all sectors that could contribute to the global value chain.
He stressed that as the host of the 6th Inclusive Business Summit, the ministry was committed to constantly pursue promotion of inclusive business in the ASEAN Region.
"Several strategic partners including UNESCAP, iBAN, OECD have also (responded positively) and stated they are ready to collaborate with the Cooperatives and SMEs Ministry under the 2023 Indonesia Chairmanship of ASEAN," he stated at the 5th ASEAN Inclusive Business Summit, October 26 to 27, 2022, in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Soetta Airport tightens supervision to anticipate COVID-19 surge

Soekarno Hatta (Soetta) International Airport in Tangerang, Banten has tightened supervision of the arrival of international travelers in an effort to anticipate a surge in COVID-19 cases.
"The principle is the same, we supervise (the movement of arriving passengers) whatever variant that is, because the most important thing is carrying out health protocols," Head of the Port Health Office (KKP) of Soekarno Hatta Airport Naning Pranoto said here on Sunday.
Pranoto said his party is tightening surveillance following a surge in COVID-19 cases in Singapore which reached thousands of cases per day.
He revealed that the surveillance process is carried out by readying thermal scanners at the arrival gates at the airport.
If there are passengers traveling from abroad with body temperature above 37.5 degrees Celsius, they will immediately be directed to take a swab test.
"The thermal scanner is at the forefront in the early detection of passengers, whether they are exposed to COVID-19 or not," he said.
According to him, a PCR test will be carried out by local health officials for passengers who tested positive for the swab test.
"Then, (if) the PCR result is positive, the examination would proceed to find out which variant is conducted," he explained.
In addition to the installation of thermal scanners at the terminals, the Port Health Office also conducts examinations related to the symptoms of passengers.
"If there are passengers who complain of having flu and temperatures above 37 degrees Celsius, then the officers will observe further," he said.
Meanwhile, there were new 2,717 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia on October 30, 2022.
To strengthen the implementation of health protocols and to prevent a spike in COVID-19 cases, the government emphasized the importance of increasing the coverage of booster vaccination ahead of the Christmas and 2023 New Year holidays. (Antaranews)
