PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply

PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply (0)

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.

In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.

Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.

"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.

The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.

Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.

PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.

Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.

"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.

The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture has assured that the health of refugees is being prioritized in efforts to handle the impact of the 5.6-magnitude (M) earthquake that rattled Cianjur district, West Java, on Monday.

The government is striving to maintain the refugee shelters so that they are always clean and have adequate sanitation, deputy for the coordination of health quality improvement and population development at the ministry, Agus Suprapto, said on Tuesday.

"In addition, it is being ensured that the basic needs of refugees, such as food, medicine, and blankets are fulfilled when they stay at the refugee center," he informed.

One of the main keys to maintaining the health of the refugees is a sufficient supply of clean water, he added.

Hence, the ministry is continuing to coordinate with all related ministries and agencies to meet the needs of refugees, he said.

"We highly pay attention to fulfilling the needs of the refugees, especially the children, to ensure that their health is well maintained," the deputy remarked.

He also expressed concern over the condition of the refugees since the COVID-19 pandemic is not yet over. Thus, he said he expected the implementation of strict health protocols to still be maintained.

The government's final decision is awaited for the purchase of F-15 EX, a 4.5-generation fighter jet from the United States, Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto stated.

"The negotiation (for the purchase of F-15) still continues. I believe that it will depend on the government's final decision," he noted after his meeting with the US Minister of Defense LIoyd J. Austin III here, Monday.

According to Subianto, the government's current main priority is controlling the COVID-19 pandemic and preparing for the impact of food security conditions in Indonesia and inflation caused by the energy price spike across the world.

"The Ukrainian war's impact is very real, and all the warning from international institutions, from the World Bank, IMF, and ADB, and warning on the climate situation next year can affect our food production," he remarked.

This will be a factor to be considered in the Indonesian government's final decision, he noted.

"However, as the defense minister, we have calculated this. We have designed programs with our United States partner in the industry sector that we trust," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Austin has supported the Indonesian government's efforts to modernize their weapon system.

The US supports the minister's continued efforts to modernize the system and Indonesia's defense capability through any means they can use, he remarked.

The F-16 already faces a healthy competition, while the F-15 platform provides additional capacity, and the two platforms complement one another, he noted.

The US has several differing platforms that work together, he explained.

During the event, Subianto also said he was satisfied with the state of bilateral cooperation with the United States in the defense sector.

"I convey my satisfaction with the ongoing bilateral cooperation. Relations between our two countries have been ongoing for decades and are currently in a good situation," he remarked. (antaranews)

The momentum and outcomes of Indonesia's G20 Presidency could support the push for an inclusive job market, including an increase in the employment of persons with disabilities, Minister of Manpower, Ida Fauziyah, has said.

"Currently, the issue of disability is not only a national issue but also an international issue and a cross-cutting issue. This issue was one of the priority issues of Indonesia's G20 Presidency in 2022," she informed at the National Awards for Companies and SOEs that Hire Disabled People here on Monday.

G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia held the presidency of the grouping this year. The G20 Summit was held in Bali on November 15–16, 2022.

In the field of employment, Indonesia's G20 Presidency resulted in the Action Plan on Accelerating and Monitoring the G20 Principles for the Labor Market Integration of Persons with Disabilities.

According to Fauziyah, with the action plan in place, Indonesia must accelerate the monitoring of G20 principles for the creation of an inclusive job market.

The principles include promoting inclusive jobs for persons with disabilities in line with the sustainable development goals (SDGs), providing training and vocational training adjusted to the job market's needs, increasing the participation of persons with disabilities in the job market, and providing entrepreneurship opportunities.

In Indonesia, Law Number 8 of 2016 concerning Persons with Disabilities stipulates that the percentage of workers with disabilities must be no less than two percent in the central and regional governments as well as SOEs (state-owned enterprises) and regional-owned enterprises (BUMD) and at least one percent in private companies.

"I hope, with this momentum and the commitment from the results of Indonesia's G20 Presidency, we can continue to intensify various steps and implement the Disability Services Unit," she remarked.

The minister further said she hopes that private companies, SOEs, and BUMD would increase the employment of persons with disabilities and report their employment to the manpower field offices in their respective regions. (Antaranews)

The Investment Ministry has said that the biggest challenge to improving the national investment climate is the mindset, which needs to be made more welcoming and supported by a better investment licensing culture.

In general, improvements to the investment climate have been accommodated through the Omnibus Job Creation Law, deputy for investment planning at the ministry, Indra Darmawan, said at a webinar entitled “Expanding Investment Amid Geopolitical Conflicts,”  on Monday.

"The challenge of implementing the Omnibus Law is the technicality, but there is software to make it is already latest version. But the biggest challenge is the mindset. How to change the culture to be more serving, open, to a better licensing system," he added.

Darmawan said that bringing this change is the biggest challenge because it would lead to a number of institutions losing their authority.

"And it's not easy, for those who think they will not be as strong as they used to be," he added.

"If some are not too motivated to carry out the initiative, that will be a challenge in and of itself. I think that is the biggest challenge that will carry over to 2023," he said.

According to Bank Mandiri chief economist Andry Asmoro, the growth in investment in recent years has shown that the investment climate in Indonesia has continued to improve.

In fact, foreign investment in the third quarter of 2022 reached Rp168.9 trillion (US$10.7 billion), an increase of 63.6 percent year on year.

"FDI (foreign direct investment) is breaking a record; this is what we have to understand. Without improvement in the investment climate, I think FDI (investors) will also question when to invest in Indonesia," he pointed out.

Asmoro said that despite many challenges, Indonesia is still one of the countries with good investment growth, which is a sign that its investment climate is improving.

The investor confidence has come from the ministry's initiatives for overcoming investment problems in practice, including improving coordination between the center and the regions, he noted.

"Not only narrative but also directly addressing investment climate issues in the regions. Not only at the micro and national levels but also on coordinating with local governments and local areas," he added. (Antaranews)

Indonesian Coordinating Minister for  Economic Affairs  Airlangga Hartarto has said the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit fully adopted the Bali G20 Leaders' Declaration.

"The Leaders' Declaration at the APEC forum fully adopted the Bali G20 Leaders' Declaration formula, word by word," Hartarto said in a statement here on Sunday.

He noted that the discussion to reach an agreement for the Leaders' Declaration at the APEC forum was tough, and in the end, all parties agreed to refer to the Bali G20 Leaders' Declaration.

This is supported by the back-to-back implementation of these two important world forums, and the declaration that was initiated in Bali which has received approval from 20 member states of G20. Hence, the version was fully adopted at the APEC Forum, Hartarto added.

In the APEC Leaders' Declaration, APEC economic leaders  agree on a joint commitment to respond to common challenges, among others, to support the reform of the multilateral trading system in order to face various developmental challenges that have arisen, and to strengthen commitment  to address supply chain disruption .
They also agreed to promote strong, balanced, sustainable, and inclusive growth, including supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and startups, the minister remarked.

"This APEC forum also encouraged multilateralism and supports the results of The WTO's 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) to encourage WTO as a platform in the Asia Pacific to equalize trade law rules, because APEC is 60 percent of the world economy or the equivalent of US$59 trillion," he said.

Furthermore, APEC economic leaders  also encouraged cooperation to connect the digital gap through infrastructure facilitation, as well as increasing expertise and digital literacy and strengthening the agricultural sector to support regional food security.

In the digital field, APEC supported empowerment starting from empowering women and youth, to promoting equality and inclusiveness of MSMEs.

Indonesia also supported the digitization of MSMEs to become part of the global supply chain, Hartarto disclosed.

He stated that this year's APEC forum was also pushing for sustainable goods and services, which will be brought under the leadership of the United States next year.

Meanwhile, the 2022 APEC Summit also succeeded in agreeing on The Bangkok Goals for the Bio-Circular Green Economy, which is a joint approach to post-pandemic economic recovery that is inclusive and balanced in order to achieve more resilient economic growth and protect the environment.

“Almost all the discussions at APEC have a common thread with those discussed at the G20. One of the strongest common links among ASEAN,  G20, and APEC is togetherness. Together, we will be strong and successful in recovering the global economy," he concluded. (antaranews)

"That is, the average price increase (Indonesia) is around five percent, this is much lower than the world's average inflation. And the average inflation in countries in the world, we should be grateful for," said President Jokowi.

According to him, in the midst of tough and very difficult challenges at this time, all of that is not easy to face. "However, the pandemic is not over. A new problem has emerged, the war in Ukraine, which has damaged global supply chains," he said.

"Therefore, food prices have risen. Fuel prices and electricity prices have also increased sharply in all countries in the world," said President Jokowi.

The success of the Government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in holding the G20 Summit in Bali on 15-16 November 2022, as proof of Indonesia's presence, is not just a formality. This was conveyed by the Postgraduate Director of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Asep Saepudin Jahar.

"I think the G20 moment has become a world record that Indonesia's presence is not a formality because it takes turns leading the G20. However, Indonesia is concretely showing serious concern," said Asep in his statement, Friday (18/11/2022).

In terms of energy and climate, he said, President Jokowi gave an example of mangrove trees or mangroves which play an important role in protecting the seafront and air system. Then related to health, he continued, Indonesia directly contributed around 50 million dollars.

"This means that in the future Indonesia must continue to voice issues of economic justice, health, energy, and peace. I think Indonesia is no longer seen as a random country," he said.

In addition, he sees the G20 showing that Indonesia is a big country that has invited the world, especially superpower countries such as America, China, and Europe. To realize universal justice like other countries and maintain world peace.

"Indonesia has succeeded in voicing justice for middle and lower-income countries to receive attention in economic justice, health, food, energy, and peace. It is an achievement that Indonesia is a strategic country for the world, especially since it is also a Muslim-majority country in the world," he said.

Besides that, Asep assessed that the government had succeeded in showing Indonesia as a strategic country to partner with. Moreover, Indonesia is rich in energy and mineral resources.

"Indonesia, in a Muslim-majority country, shows the world that Indonesian Islam truly values diversity and tolerance for living well. I think Indonesia will be a model for the world in terms of complex religious and socio-cultural life," he said.

Of course, Asep added that the success of holding the G20 in Bali, of course, the security forces, both the TNI, Polri, and other elements, made the situation conducive. So, the guests of the world's countries feel safe and comfortable following the G20 Presidency in Bali.

“In fact, French President Macron, walked casually to the place of the walking event and greeted residents in a relaxed manner, a conducive level of security. This shows Indonesia's capability in terms of security services, and this is the successful collaboration of various elements, especially the Police, TNI, and intelligence working well," he said.

It is known that President Jokowi had a meeting with United States President Joe Biden at The Apurva Kempinski Bali on Monday, November 14, 2022. During the meeting, Jokowi expressed his gratitude for President Biden's presence at the G20 Summit in Indonesia.

“President Biden, welcome to Bali. I appreciate President Biden's presence at the G20 Summit," said President Jokowi. (RRI)
