Indonesia Prioritize Implementation of The Blue Economy and Green Economy at G20

The Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas will hold a G20 Development Ministerial Meeting (DMM) 2022 Side Event entitled “The Development of Indonesia's Blue Economy Roadmap” in Belitung, on 7-8 September 2022. Deputy for Economic Affairs of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti emphasized that the agenda This role plays an important role in the preparation of Indonesia's Blue Economy Roadmap, as a follow-up to the Indonesian Blue Economy Development Framework which was launched last year.

"This is an opportunity to emphasize the enormous potential of Indonesia's marine economy which, if utilized optimally, will contribute significantly to the recovery and transformation of the nation's economy, especially to increase employment, productivity, and added value to the economy," said Deputy Amalia in Belitung, Tuesday. The side event has three goals. First, propose and promote the Blue Economy Roadmap as one of the solutions to support economic transformation at the national level. Second, to become a forum for learning best practices and success stories of countries that have created a Blue Economy. Third, build potential collaborations in the design and implementation of the Indonesia Blue Economy Roadmap.

"It is hoped that an inclusive and sustainable Blue Economy strategy can be designed to improve the welfare of the community, considering that Indonesia is a maritime country with enormous marine potential to be managed," said Deputy Amalia.

According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Tuesday, the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas is currently developing a Blue Economy Roadmap for Indonesia with support from local and international partners, including the UN Resident Coordinator, International Labor Organization, UN Environment Programme, ARISE+ Indonesia, and the EcoNusa Foundation.

The roadmap seeks to bridge the transition to a more sustainable blue economy through the conservation and responsible use of marine and coastal resources to benefit future generations, as well as guide policies and programs to realize Indonesia's Vision 2045, including hopes for moving out of the middle. - income trap before 2045.

“In the end, the G20 Side Event is expected to trigger collaboration across sectors and stakeholders in creating human welfare and contributing to the global transition towards a more sustainable ocean economy and prosperity. The implementation of the Blue Economy Roadmap will also support Indonesia's economic transformation in the medium and long term, while contributing to the creation of decent jobs and increasing community resilience to climate change," concluded Deputy Amalia//VOI
