Opening the Community Literacy Index Improvement (PILM) activity which was held at the JM Tanjung Pura Islamic High School (STAI) - 

Intelligence does not have to be acquired through school. All good things can be used as a way to achieve intelligence, including through libraries. However, to form a superior human being, a reading culture is needed.

This was conveyed by the Acting Deputy for Library Resource Development of the National Library of Indonesia, Deni Kurniadi, when opening the Community Literacy Index Improvement (PILM) activity which was held at the JM Tanjung Pura Islamic High School (STAI), Thursday (29/9/2022) .
Building superior human resources (HR) is part of the vision for the realization of an Advanced Indonesia. The direction to get there is not easy. The community needs to be invited to have a reading culture in order to be able to improve the quality of their literacy.
“The current era of disruption requires humans to think creatively and be full of innovation. The origin of this thinking ability begins with a strong willingness to read. Without a strong reading, anyone will not have the power to think. The war of thought is far more powerful than the physical war," said Deputy Deni Kurniadi.
Libraries as the epicenter of science, of course, have a crucial role for the progress of society. The presence of the library is no longer just a place to read, but also to practice skills, develop self-potential, "explained Deni.
According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Thursday, Member of Commission X DPR RI, Djohar Arifin Husin added that the interest in reading in the community, especially children, must also be fought for by educators. School institutions are expected to synergize with libraries in fostering a reading culture. This action, Djohar feels will help the development of Indonesian people.

"I recommend giving them homework in the form of memorization. Ask them to read books. So that later they will enjoy reading, until it becomes a hobby," he explained.
Assistant III for the General Administration of Langkat Regency, Musti Sitepu, said that in an effort to educate the lives of the nation's children as mandated in the 1945 Constitution, make libraries as a vehicle for lifelong learning, a forum for developing community potential, so that they are responsible for supporting the implementation of national education.
"Libraries are required to be able to transform and innovate in order to be able to provide the maximum benefit to the community," concluded Sitepu.
