After a talkshow entitled "121 Years of Bung Hatta: Rising Together with Inclusive Literacy" -
The Head of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (Perpusnas) invites all people, especially the younger generation, to continue to inflame Bung Hatta's literacy spirit. Even in the midst of various limitations, even when he was behind bars in prison, Bung Hatta continued to read.
“Indonesia stands for the struggle of people who love reading. While other countries are busy arming themselves, our heroes are busy gaining knowledge by reading. The spirit of Bung Hatta who likes to read is a big asset for our nation and we must emulate it," he said when opening a talkshow entitled "121 Years of Bung Hatta: Rising Together with Inclusive Literacy", Tuesday (15/8/2023).
This activity is one of a series of 121 year commemorations of Bung Hatta held by National Library of Indonesia's Bung Hatta Proclamation Library UPT in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra Province.
According to the Head of National Library, Bung Hatta's fighting spirit which continues to be inflamed will encourage people to continue working through innovation and creativity.
However, the Head of National Library added, the enthusiasm of the current young generation to be literate is not as strong as Bung Hatta. "Even though literacy is a way for people to contribute to the progress of the nation," he emphasized.
According to the Head of National Library of Indonesia, literacy is the depth of one's knowledge of certain knowledge subjects that can be implemented with innovation and creativity to produce goods and services to win global competition.
On the same occasion, the UPT Library of Bung Hatta Proclamation also launched a book entitled "Anthology of Poetry for Hatta: Framing Bung Hatta in Poetry".
This book is the result of Bung Hatta's Poetry Writing Workshop which is part of the implementation of the Social Inclusion-Based Library Program.
The City Government of Bukittinggi through the Expert Staff of the Mayor of Bukittinggi, Melfi Abra, explained the efforts to be made in developing the people's economy in Bung Hatta's hometown.
According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia in Jakarta on Tuesday, Melfi revealed, through the good values passed down by Bung Hatta, the City Government of Bukittinggi will encourage the younger generation to contribute to empowering the community's economy.
"The Bukittinggi City Government will make this city a Cultural Heritage City of Bung Hatta so that tourists who come to the City of Bukittinggi will get to know Bung Hatta and his personality," he explained.
Melfi also explained, to advance the economy of Bukittingi City, a sharia cooperative-based joint business would be developed.
On the other hand, Halida Halida Nuriah Hatta, Bung Hatta's third daughter, who was present as a guest speaker, revealed that Bung Hatta also spread the spirit of literacy through reading, starting with his own family.
He and his 2 brothers were invited and made interested in reading books through the collection of books owned by Bung Hatta.
"As Bung Hatta's generation, we must maintain a critical culture and also read. We must have a strong determination to jointly realize the ideals of the nation," he added.
