VOINews.id: Indonesian vice president Ma'ruf Amin has expressed deep concern over the prevailing situation in Gaza, Palestine, on account of Israeli aggression.

"I am very concerned about the current situation in Gaza. More than 23,210 people have died," he said while receiving a courtesy visit from Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Waleed bin Abdul Karim El-Khereji, at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (11/01/2024).

On the occasion, as reported by Antara, Amin emphasized that Indonesia will continue to fight for Palestine. He also conveyed three important measures that need to be taken in Gaza.

"First, we must continue to call for a more permanent ceasefire. Second, it is important to design sustainable humanitarian assistance. Third, to seriously consider the peace process to achieve a two-state solution," he said.

During the meeting, he also lauded Saudi Arabia as a member of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which has made several efforts to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict. The efforts included gathering support from permanent member countries of the United Nations Security Council (P5) — the United States, the United Kingdom, China, France, and Russia. Deputy Minister El-Khereji said that his country has made several efforts, ranging from political, economic, and others, to broker a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

"We do not want a temporary ceasefire as was done before. We just want freedom for Palestinians and Gazans," he emphasized.

The Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Indonesia, Faisal Abdullah H. Amodi, accompanied El-Khereji to the meeting. Meanwhile, Vice President Amin was accompanied by several officials such as the head of the Vice President's Secretariat, Ahmad Erani Yustika and the director of Middle Eastern affairs at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bagus Hendraning Kobarsih.
