The Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia and Stanford University, United States signed an agreement on cooperation in the fields of law, human rights and the environment on Thursday (29/2).  As quoted from the statement from the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia, San Francisco, this collaboration was signed by the Head of the Indonesian Supreme Court Research and Development Agency, Bambang Hery Mulyono and the Director of the Stanford Center for Human Rights and International Justice (CHRIJ) Stanford University, David Cohen. This signing was witnessed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Muhammad Syarifuddin and the Indonesian Consul General in San Francisco, Prasetyo Hadi.

Moreover, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Muhammad Syarifuddin stated that the collaboration with Stanford was a continuation and expansion of the collaboration that the two parties has had since 2015. This collaboration was intended to increase capacity and facilitate various training programs, workshops and joint research. According to Syarifuddin, this is to increase the knowledge and skills of law enforcers, particularly in the field of human rights and legal and judicial reform.

Besides, the Indonesian Consulate General in San Francisco in its Press Statement said at least 1,583 prospective judges and dozens of other judges, both in general courts and human rights courts in Indonesia, are beneficiaries of this collaboration. With this achievement, the Supreme Court hopes that more judges and related officers will receive the benefits of training to improve their legal reasoning knowledge and skills, including on issues related to human rights and reform of judicial institutions in Indonesia.

The Indonesian Consul General in San Francisco, Prasetyo Hadi, hopes that this collaboration can support various efforts by the Supreme Court to further increase the capacity of law enforcers under the auspices of the Supreme Court throughout Indonesia. The Indonesian Consulate General in San Francisco affirmed that Stanford is one of the world's best universities which is known for having qualified legal experts, and experience in providing various training programs to increase the capacity of law enforcement in various countries. The Indonesian Consulate General in San Francisco expressed its full support to encourage the realization of increased cooperation. Prasetyo further said that this achievement was part of the increasing relations between Indonesia and the United States, which reached its 75th year this year.
