VOInews, Karanganyar: Indonesian president Joko Widodo (Jokowi) highlighted the importance of water management to face the current dry weather challenges. This was stated as Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) estimates that some regions in Indonesia will face dry weather that may endanger food production in Indonesia.

After reviewing the Water Pump Assistance Program in Karanganyar, Central Java on Wednesday (19/6/2024), the president said that to overcome the challenges of drought, the government is trying to carry out water management through pumping measures in all provinces in Indonesia.

"We hope that, in this long drought, we have predicted through the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) can be closed with water management like this. Water management is very important," Jokowi said, as quoted from Indonesia's Presidential Secretariat.

President Joko Widodo said that the pumping project involves drawing water from rivers and groundwater to support irrigation in the dry season. The President also stated that artificial rain will be maximized at the end of the rainy season to support this effort.

Previously, the head of BMKG, Dwikorita Karnawati said that her agency's data shows that several regions in Indonesia will experience days without rain, especially in Sumatra, Java, and East Nusa Tenggara from June to September 2024. She also emphasized optimizing weather modification operations for drought vulnerability and forest and land fires.
