VOINews, Jakarta: The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia held a casual gathering titled “Ngopi Santai” (Relaxed Coffee) with key players in Indonesia’s music industry at Graha Utama, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Building on Thursday, Jakarta. The event aimed to enhance the national music ecosystem through an open discussion among various stakeholders in the music sector.
In his opening remarks, Minister of Culture Dr. Fadli Zon introduced the ministry’s new structure, which is expected to support the growth of Indonesia’s music industry. The revamped structure includes three directorates-general, each focusing on distinct cultural aspects to address the nation’s diverse cultural needs.
"The Ministry of Culture now comprises three directorates-general: the Directorate-General for Cultural Protection and Traditions, the Directorate-General for Cultural Diplomacy, Promotion, and Cooperation, and the Directorate-General for Cultural Development and Utilization. With these three divisions, we aim to serve cultural needs more comprehensively," said Minister Fadli Zon.
The minister also emphasized the importance of input from music industry players to formulate effective policies. He called on all stakeholders to collaborate in advancing Indonesia’s music scene, both nationally and internationally.
"We aspire for Indonesian music to not only dominate domestically but also gain acceptance and recognition in other countries," Fadli added.
As a tangible step, the Ministry announced its plan to organize a National Music Convention next year. The event is expected to foster a stronger music ecosystem by encouraging collaboration between the government and industry players.
Through open dialogues like “Ngopi Santai,”* the Ministry of Culture aims to develop policies tailored to the needs of the music industry. The discussion also sought to improve the industry’s ecosystem by focusing not only on enhancing the quality of music but also on the welfare of its practitioners.
This initiative reflects the Ministry’s commitment to building a sustainable music ecosystem that nurtures creativity, promotes local talents, and elevates Indonesia’s cultural identity on the global stage.
