Minister of BUMN and Chief Executive of the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPCPEN) Erick Thohir revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic has become a momentum for all parties to improve themselves, carry out transformation, and carry out big strategies.
"This is the time for us to fundamentally fix ourselves, carry out transformation and carry out big strategies in the fields of economy, law, government, social, culture, including the environment," said Erick Thohir in an online seminar in Jakarta, Tuesday.
According to Erick Thohir, the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic like it or not, like it or not, will have the potential to increase the poverty rate in Indonesia.
"As is the case in other countries, the COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on Indonesia's economic growth," said Erick Thohir.
As of the third quarter of 2020, our economic growth was still minus 3.49 percent year on year (yoy).
The downturn in economic conditions also had an impact on Indonesia's workforce, where the government noted that the COVID-19 pandemic caused 2.56 million people to lose their jobs and more than 1.8 million people experienced a decrease in income.
"However, we must not give up. We can use the momentum of this crisis as an opportunity and a leap for us to catch up with Indonesia so far," said Erick Thohir. (Antaranews)
