Vice President Jusuf Kalla Encourages Handicraft Industry to Use E-Commerce
Written by Ani HasanahVice President, Jusuf Kalla encourages the handicraft industry to take advantage of electronic commerce (e-commerce) to improve the quality of its products. He views that by utilizing e-commerce, handicraft industry must meet standardization of quality and size, because many people in the future will buy goods by looking at the catalog.
“Handicraft must change by the existence of e-commerce. What to change is how to create goods with good quality and high standard. Buyers will buy via internet by seeing catalog,” said Vice President Jusuf Kalla in his speech at the International Handicraft -Inacraft 2018 exhibition in Jakarta Convention Center, Jakarta on Wednesday (25 April).
Vice President Jusuf Kalla further remarked that if there is no standard of quality and size, it is very difficult to include it in e-commerce system. However, if standardization of quality and size measure has been fulfilled, the consumers will be able to trust and use this e-commerce technology. (VOI/Egi/Ndy/RHM)

President Joko Widodo Calls for Muslims to Strengthen Unity through Mosques
Written by Ani HasanahPresident Joko Widodo calls for young Muslims to use the mosque as a means to strengthen ‘Silaturrahim’ or social ties and fraternity in Indonesia. This was stated by the President while attending the 13th National Congress of Youth Communication Board of the Indonesian Mosque in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/4).
In his remarks, President Joko Widodo said that the mosque as a means of worship for Muslims has the potential in a bid to strengthen unity of the nation. He remarked that the unity of the Ummah is a great capital to build Indonesian nation to become a great country with all the potential it has.
“To become a great economic country, Indonesia must get through many tests. We must get through all obstacles. Therefore, in this occasion, let us work together to preserve our beloved country. I am positive that Indonesia will reach its glory. Let’s spread brotherhood and unity through mosques,” President Joko Widodo said.
On the occasion, President Joko Widodo also mentioned that Indonesia is currently establishing closer relations with the Middle East countries. He said that Indonesia as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world has a strong basis to have a strong relationship with the countries in the Middle East. In addition to building stronger economic cooperation, Indonesia can also contribute to building peace in the world. The President exemplifies the role of Indonesia that has been chosen to mediate in the conflict in Afghanistan. The trust, according to the President, has been given by the President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani who has appointed Indonesia to be a mediator in resolving conflict in Afghanistan. (VOI/Ndy/RHM)

Indonesian Pavilion and Care Giver Discussed at the Presidential Palace
Written by Ani HasanahThe government of Indonesia plans to establish a pavilion in Hong Kong as a means to showcase Indonesia's potential for the people of Hong Kong. It plans to realize the idea at the end of 2018. Therefore, the Indonesian government hopes that Hong Kong can help realize Indonesia's desire by granting the necessary licenses. This was disclosed in a meeting between President Joko Widodo and Chief Executive Official of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/4). Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi explained that Indonesia and Hong Kong have increased economic cooperation relationship in recent years. Both countries even experienced a trade surplus in 2017 to reach eight percent. Indonesia Pavilion in Hong Kong, according to Minister Retno, will be a permanent building that provides information for Indonesia’s potential.
“It was also discussed about Indonesia's plan to open the Indonesian Pavilion in Hong Kong. It will permanently showcase all of Indonesia's economic potential. That's why, we talked and we asked for help so that this initiation or plan can be realized soon. Hopefully before the end of this year, the pavilion of Indonesia can already be opened in Hong Kong. It will be like a permanent building whose contents vary. There will be Indonesian export’s goods and consultation on investment and so on. So, it is a permanent exhibition of all potential of Indonesia,” Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi said.
Minister Retno Marsudi further remarked that the meeting also discussed the potential of new market development for cooperation in the field of employment between Indonesia and Hong Kong. She added that Hong Kong is currently in the process of opening opportunities for the entry of foreign workers who will contribute as care giver in Hong Kong. Minister Retno also said that Hong Kong has given an opportunity to Indonesia to contribute in donating care giver, including in providing education for care giver candidates. (VOI/Ndy/RHM))

President Joko Widodo Expects Enhancement of Cooperation with Hong Kong
Written by Ani HasanahPresident Joko Widodo received Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), Carrie Lam at Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday. In his welcoming remarks, the President stated that the meeting should enhance relations between Indonesia and Hong Kong, not only in economic sector but also people-to-people contact.
During the meeting, President Joko Widodo was accompanied by several ministers, such as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi and Minister of Trade, Enggartiasto Lukita. Minister Retno Marsudi said that Indonesia currently has a better investment climate for foreign investors. Thus, this situation should be used to enhance Hong Kong’s investment value in Indonesia.
“Hong Kong’s investment is very important. From time to time, for at least two years back, Hong Kong has become the fourth biggest foreign investment in Indonesia. The President discussed issues related to investment, especially with a better investment climate that Indonesia is experiencing currently. We hope Hong Kong’s investment will increase in the future,” Retno Marsudi said.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, Carrie Lam appreciated the welcoming of Indonesian government to the Hong Kong’s delegates. She highlighted the improvement of Indonesia-Hong Kong cooperation since President Joko Widodo's state visit to Hong Kong some time ago. According to her, the relationship between the two countries has increased, not only in the economic field, but also in the social and educational fields. (VOI/Ndy/RHM)
