PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply (0)
State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.
In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.
Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.
"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.
The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.
Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.
PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.
Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.
"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.

Investors expected to begin participating in IKN development in 2023

Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has expected that domestic and international investors will start investing in the development project of Indonesia’s future capital (IKN), Nusantara, in the second quarter of 2023.
Hence, currently, the PUPR Ministry is preparing for the development of the 1B and 1C areas of the Central Government Core Area (KIPP), he said here on Sunday.
Many investors had sent letters of intent to the ministry and the IKN Authority to invest in the project, he said.
The PUPR Ministry has commenced the construction of basic infrastructure facilities in the IKN area to draw investors to partake in developing the future city. The establishment of the basic infrastructure used the state budget.
Only around 20 to 30 percent of the infrastructure development in the IKN will be financed by the state budget while the rest must be funded through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme.
"(The infrastructure projects funded by) the 20-30 percent (of the state budget) that we have been working on since August 2022 include road accesses, drinking water facilities, bridges, trash cans, sanitation, flood mitigation facilities, and government offices," the minister informed.
Earlier, he stated that around 183 Malaysian investors were interested in the IKN development project in East Kalimantan Province to establish housing, hospitals, education, start-ups, and energy facilities.
In addition to Malaysia, those from several other countries, including Japan, Spain, Finland, Brunei Darussalam, and South Korea, had also expressed their interest in participating in the construction of Indonesia’s future capital city both to the PUPR Ministry and IKN Authority.
Most recently, the IKN Authority had a meeting with the representatives of 21 European Union countries to discuss the cooperation in building the IKN.
"The interest of European Union countries in the construction of IKN will be seriously followed up, thus we can meet the government's target of (having) 80 percent investment (for the development of the future capital city)," Head of IKN Authority Bambang Susantono was quoted as saying in a statement on Saturday (December 3, 2022). Sustainable development crucial to move forward amid challenges

It is important to continue with sustainable development amid the current global challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Development Planning Ministry has said.
The global community will also face a food crisis, whose handling may reduce the allocation of funds for realizing the SDG target, head of the National Secretariat for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the ministry Vivi Yulaswati remarked at the 2022 SDGs Annual Conference here on Friday.
Hence, she emphasized the importance of collaboration among all parties, especially between government and non-government actors, for achieving the green economy targets to realize Indonesia's 2045 Vision.
"Concrete action from all of you and the cooperation of all parties is urgently needed for the acceleration (of efforts to achieve the targets),” she said.
In particular, it is important to strengthen the regulatory framework on the green economy based on Presidential Decree Number 111 of 2022 regarding achieving the SDG targets, the official said.
It is also necessary to mainstream the regulatory framework in the Mid-Term National Development Program (RPJMN) and Long-Term National Development Program (RPJPN), she added.
Indonesia is not only targeting to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060, but also attain economic growth of 6.1–6.5 percent year on year by 2050 through the implementation of the green economy, which is estimated to create 1.8 million green jobs in 2030.
Low-carbon and climate-resilient development will be the backbone of Indonesia's green economy transformation, she noted.
"We are not only pushing the SDG ideals, but also realizing them," she added.
She also shared a report from the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific entitled “Asia and the Pacific SDG Progress Report 2022.”
At the conference, which was themed “Encouraging Green Economy Implementation to Achieve SDGs,” the National Development Planning Ministry, Regional Autonomy Monitoring Committee, as well as Association of District Governments in Indonesia also launched a Sustainable Regional Competitiveness Index.

Uno upbeat about securing Saudi investment in tourism infrastructure

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno is buoyant about the Saudi Arabian government investing in Indonesia, especially in the field of tourism infrastructure.
To this end, Uno met with Minister of Tourism of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ahmed Al Khatieb to sign a memorandum of understanding to strengthen partnerships in the tourism sector in order to have a major impact on society, especially in encouraging economic revival and job creation.
"This signing is also historic because it is the first post-G20 follow-up where we will expect investment from the Government of Saudi Arabia, especially in the field of tourism infrastructure. One that is discussed is the cable car that is planned to be placed in several leading tourism destinations, such as Puncak," Uno noted in Saudi Arabia, through an official statement, Saturday.
The scope of this memorandum of understanding encompasses several aspects including data exchange, best practice exchange, and joint promotion between the two countries.
Moreover, the cooperation agreement covers investment; publications focusing on education, training, and research in the field of tourism; and comprehensive cooperation in international forums and organizations
"The joint promotion plan and steps to facilitate tourist visits will be the main focus of several areas of cooperation. It is hoped that this would increase the number of tourist visits from Saudi Arabia to Indonesia," he stated.
Based on data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), some 157,512 foreign tourists visited Saudi Arabia in 2019, with an average spending of US$2,277 per foreign traveler per visit.
"Based on data, tourists from Saudi Arabia like beaches, mountains, and family tourism. This is interesting because Saudi Arabia has declared that sustainable tourism is their focus, and Indonesia is certainly one of the references in quality and sustainable tourism," he stated. (Antaranews)

Jakarta Culture Office organizes ancient tribe culture exhibition

The Jakarta Culture Office held an ancient tribe culture exhibition through showcasing temporary artworks at the Bahari Museum, North Jakarta, from December 2, 2022 to March 2, 2023.
"This is done, so that the younger generation is inspired to continue to preserve culture and develop love for the richness of the nation's history," Jakarta Culture Office Head Iwan Henry Wardhana remarked.
The exhibition depicted the lives of Indonesian ancient tribes through cultural materials and temporary art installations, he noted here, Saturday.
The exhibition, titled "art the fact," aims to introduce ancient tribes' cultures and their influence on global changes as well as Indonesian ancient tribes' traditional values.
"Through this exhibition, the people are expected to spread information and enrich insights through tangible and intangible collections related to Indonesian ancient tribes' culture," he stated.
Head of the Museum's Management Unit Mis'ari noted that the exhibition is held in response to the issues of inclusivity and the challenges of global change.
Ancient tribes apply local wisdom, such as protecting nature, to maintain a sustainable lifestyle. However, visualization and narration concerning the ancient tribes' local wisdom is still very limited, she pointed out.
She cited Lamalera Duku's local wisdom that hunts whale, with the principle of preservation, to maintain the balance of nature as an example.
Meanwhile, the Mandar Tribe uses natural resources, such as sea shells, but still prioritize its preservation.
"To this end, we dedicate ourselves to convey this information through the exhibition that is expected to be able to illustrate the culture of sustainable environment management," she remarked.
The museum uses simple language to draw the people's interest and especially to offer families and children a broader understanding of the material.
"We expect that this exhibition can be a platform for children to learn at the museum, and they are expected to be able to actively respond through interactive points that we provide," she noted. (Antaranews)

National Army Commander Candidate Expected to Fulfill the President's Vision

The candidate for TNI Commander, Admiral Yudo Margono, is expected to realize President Jokowi's vision. This was conveyed by DPR Commission I member Bobby Adhityo.
According to him, there are various issues that will be explored for the Candidate for TNI Commander while undergoing the fit and proper test in the DPR. One of them is related to President Jokowi's vision of realizing Indonesia as the world's maritime axis.
"Of course, how about the explanation regarding efforts to increase the professionalism of the TNI organization and soldiers with all their limitations, and fulfillment of defense posture. Commission I of the DPR RI plans to hold a fit and proper test for the Candidate for TNI Commander, Friday (2/12/2022). The plan was carried out after a decision was made by the Deliberative Body (Bamus DPR RI).

66.86 million Indonesians have received first booster: task force

At least 66.86 million Indonesians have received the third dose or first booster of the COVID-19 vaccine as of Thursday, according to the COVID-19 Handling Task Force.
As per the task force’s data, the number of first booster recipients grew by 237,450 on Thursday, taking the total tally to 66,862,019.
Meanwhile, the number of second dose recipients rose by 119,410 to 174,239,124, and the number of first dose recipients was recorded at 203,715,848.
Then, the number of fourth dose or second booster recipients--mainly health workers—increased by 68,288 to 863,582 on Thursday.
As part of efforts to boost community immunity against COVID-19, the Indonesian government launched a nationwide vaccination program on January 13, 2021. President Joko Widodo was the first vaccine recipient under the program.
The government is targeting to vaccinate as many as 234,666,020 people against the virus.
According to the Ministry of Health, the government is currently focusing on increasing the coverage of the first booster dose vaccination, which is currently still low.
"Of course, there is a plan to give the second booster to the general public, but right now, we are focusing on expediting the (administration of the) first booster," the ministry's director general of disease prevention and control Maxi Rein Rondonuwu informed.
Regarding the plan for providing a second booster to the general public, Rondonuwu said that all parties must first focus on increasing the coverage of the first booster, which, so far, has reached 38 percent while the target is 50 percent at least.
Nevertheless, the government has discussed the provision of the second booster to the general public after the second booster vaccination for the elderly group is completed, he added.
Currently, the government is trying to expedite the administration of the first booster by mapping areas where vaccination coverage is still low and distributing vaccines with the help of the National Police (Polri) and the Indonesian Military (TNI), he said. (antaranews)

Indonesia's future economy must be based on space activity: BRIN

Indonesia should develop a space exploration-based economic sector in the future, head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Laksana Tri Handoko has said.
"The future of Indonesia's economy, one of which, must be based on space activity. Geographically, Indonesia is an archipelagic country, which lies over the Equator and not many satellites can cover it (the space area over the Equator)," he noted in a statement received on Thursday.
Hence, BRIN is striving to develop an Internet of things, optical, and radar-based remote sensing satellite system so that Indonesia will be able to have sustainable updated data on satellite imagery.
"Related to Indonesia's future economy, remote sensing data can be used as an enabler, a catalyst, and a lever for providing a multiplier effect (on the economy)," he remarked.
BRIN has also prepared supporting infrastructure for remote sensing data utilization, such as a data center and big data management through High-Performance Computing (HPC).
Furthermore, the head of BRIN said he expects that the agency will establish partnerships with other parties to operate BRIN’s five ground stations to bolster the space ecosystem in Indonesia.
He also urged business actors, especially start-ups, to develop remote sensing imagery applications to meet the needs of certain target markets, such as the oil palm plantation and fishery sector, which used the imagery to monitor the growth of oil palm trees and to help fisherman to locate fish, respectively.
"Thus, the (satellite) imagery will not only become (geographic) data, but can actually be a concrete and significant (driving factor to have a) multiplier effect on the economy," he added.
Currently, the government is accelerating the construction of Biak Numfor Spaceport in Biak Numfor district, Papua province.
Earlier, Handoko said that the construction of the spaceport is aimed at bolstering Indonesia's sovereignty and capabilities in the science and technology sector in the midst of global geopolitical turmoil.
"Biak Numfor is our main choice (as a location to build the spaceport), considering the condition of existing (supporting) infrastructure and the potential for collaboration with the local economy (actors)," he added. (antaranews)

Papuans urged to fill govt vacancies in new provinces

The government is continuing to encourage native Papuans to fill civil state apparatus vacancies in the three new provinces of Papua, Deputy Home Minister John Wempi Wetipo has informed.
"Regarding the state apparatus in the three new autonomous provinces (in Papua), our law requires that 80 percent (of the vacancies) be filled by native Papuans. There will be no (placement) from the central authority because local residents also qualify, but there are not many applications (to fill the vacancies)," he said here on Wednesday.
While accompanying Vice President Ma'ruf Amin to a meeting with South Papuan officials and public representatives, the deputy minister urged the newly-formed local authority to accept local applicants from Papua province to fill the vacancies.
Papua province's 11-thousand-strong state employees could fill the vacancies in South Papua, where only some 900 out of 1,056 government vacancies have been filled, he highlighted.
"I hope ladies and gentlemen will admit our brothers from the mother province to occupy positions in the government of the three new autonomous provinces," he said.
The Home Affairs Ministry will constantly monitor the administration of the three new Papuan provinces to ensure a strong foundation for their governance, the deputy governor added.
"The central government will be responsible for the construction of the governor's office, and the Papuan People's Assembly (MRP), Papuan People's Representative Council, and regional government offices from 2023 to 2025," Wetipo informed.
He said that the current term of the Papuan People's Assembly in Papua and West Papua provinces will be extended till June 2023, pending the selection of members of the first MRPs in the new provinces.
Meanwhile, John Gluba Gebse, the former district head of Merauke, said that competition must be encouraged between the provinces in Papua to accelerate growth and development.
"There are six or seven provinces, and with the special autonomy fund, we encourage competition between all provinces because it could accelerate (growth). All provinces will maintain each province's pride, and instead of quarreling with each other, they will compete to develop the Papua region," Gebse added.
Besides calling for the elevation of the Merauke Airfield and Merauke Police grades, he urged that regulations on employment in local administration for native Papuans be followed strictly. (Antaranews)

Digital technology affecting journalism industry: Plate

The advancement of digital technology has affected various aspects of life, including the journalism industry, according to Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G. Plate.
"The journalism world is no exception to those affected by the digital technology extensification, for instance, (it has led to) changes in media landscape variations, as well as the business model, norms, ethics, and coverage work," Plate noted while opening the ministry's 2022 Journalism Awards, which were broadcast on the ministry’s social media on Wednesday.
Digital technology, including tools for transcribing interviews and software for analyzing pictures and videos, has supported the work of journalists, the minister said, adding that such technology, besides making work more efficient, can also help media companies optimize their budgets and variables.
Media companies can also utilize artificial intelligence to detect trending topics and breaking news, he said.
"Technology has also allowed fact-checking to detect whether the news is true or false," he highlighted.
Plate pointed out that the artificial intelligence technology utilized by TheAssociated Press has helped it generate 40 thousand news reports annually.
Technology has created new opportunities for the journalism industry and media companies to help disseminate news to the public more effectively, the minister said.
Despite its benefits, he underlined that technological advancement also poses new challenges for journalists in ensuring the quality of news content and the accuracy of information.
"Technological advancement must be balanced by dexterity and speed to adapt," he said.
Media companies must adapt themselves to the change to ensure technology becomes the accelerator and enabler of journalistic work, he added.
The ministry's journalism award is presented to members of the press community reporting on technology, telecommunication, and the digital world. The award is given out in five categories: online media, printed media, radio, television, and photography. (Antaranews)

Indonesia gets solar PV lab equipment from Switzerland

Indonesia, through the Human Resources Development Center for Electricity, New and Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation (PPSDM KEBTKE), has received a grant of solar photovoltaic (PV) laboratory equipment from the Switzerland government.
"PPSDM KEBTKE strongly supports the renewable energy skills development (RESD) cooperation between BPSDM ESDM (Human Resources Development Agency of Energy and Mineral Resources) and SECO (Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs)," PPSDM KEBTKE head Albertus Susetyo Edi Prabowo said here on Wednesday.
An agreement on the handover of the equipment was signed by Prabowo and Martin Stottele, the RESD project leader.
The grant consists of portable solar PV equipment, rooftop ground mounts, pole mounts, and other supporting infrastructure.
Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the grant of the equipment by the Swiss government and the provision of other technical support for organizing a training program for solar power plant (PLTS) technicians in 2023.
"PPSDM KEBTKE is committed to supporting the Indonesian government's program toward clean and sustainable energy, especially in terms of the availability of competent workers with technical capabilities that are based on industry needs," he said.
Meanwhile, Stottele said that the grant of PV equipment to PPSDM KEBTKE is a form of support from Switzerland for Indonesia in implementing the energy transition program that is targeting a renewable energy mix of 23 percent by 2025.
The RESD project is being conducted in collaboration with PPSDM KEBTKE, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, and four vocational and productivity training centers under the Manpower Ministry.
The four training centers are located in the Ambon, Banda Aceh, East Lombok, and Ternate regions of Indonesia.
RESD is a development cooperation between Indonesia and Switzerland that aims to create a competent workforce in the fields of planning, design, construction and installation, inspection and commissioning, supervision, operation, and maintenance of solar power plants, solar-diesel hybrid power plants, and hydroelectric power plants.
