PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply

PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply (0)

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.

In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.

Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.

"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.

The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.

Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.

PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.

Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.

"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has called on South Korean entrepreneurs to participate in working on downstream investment opportunities in Indonesia on account of the vast potential.

"Indonesia has great potential for mineral resources, which have a vital role (to play) in economic growth. We urge entrepreneurs to participate in the efforts to increase added value for future development, such as batteries and storage," the special staff of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry for the acceleration of industrial development in the energy and mineral resources sector, Agus Tjahajana Wirakusumah, stated in the Indonesia-Korea Future Industry Business Plaza 2022 hosted here on Wednesday.

Wirakusumah said that in 2002, Indonesia and South Korea had established cooperation in the energy and mineral sector.

The two states had various potentials for cooperation in the fields of electricity, renewable energy, and minerals. One of the collaborations that had been agreed upon is a pilot project for charging systems to support development of the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.

Indonesia had also collaborated to pursue development of critical minerals, in particular, exchanging information on the management of critical mineral resources, Wirakusumah added.

On the same occasion, President of Southeast Asia-Oceania Head Office Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) Jongseob Lee expected relations between South Korea and Indonesia -- the only Southeast Asian member of the G20 -- to be improved.

Lee opined that as Indonesia-Korea relations drew closer to the 50-year mark, the value of trade between the two countries had increased by 100 folds. All of that could be achieved by mutually beneficial trade and investment, he affirmed.

"Towards the (marking of the) 50th anniversary of Indonesia-Korea (relations), economic cooperation between the two countries will open a new page," he remarked.

Director General of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency Jakarta Jang-hee Lee said that his administration contributed in bridging the gap between South Korean and Indonesian companies to establish economic cooperation, especially in terms of the export, import, and investment aspects.

"South Korea will continue to collaborate with high-tech industries, such as electric vehicles and secondary batteries, as part of Environmental Social Governance (ESG) to support Indonesia's sustainability policies," Lee stated.

Indonesia was an important partner for South Korea, especially in the ASEAN region. The trade value of South Korea and Indonesia was recorded at US$15.3 billion during the period from January to July 2022. This figure grew 49.3 percent as compared to US$10.2 billion during the corresponding period in 2021.

This achievement made the country South Korea's partner with the second-largest trade value in the ASEAN scope.

The commodities mainly traded between the two were mineral fuel, mineral oil and products; electrical machinery and equipment; and steel; ore, slag, and ash; and plastic. (Antaranews)

The Bali Guideline contains five action plans that were previously discussed at The 1st and 2nd Tourism Working Group, which have been discussed for more than a year in collaboration with G20 member countries and UNWTO.

Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate invited the Government of Portugal to support Indonesia to become a member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council for the 2023-2026 period, representing the Asia-Pacific region.

"We know that Portugal is part of the European Union (EU), (so we have a meeting with Portugal since) we need allies from the members of EU (to support our candidacy),” the Indonesian minister remarked in a press release on Sunday during Plate's working visit to Portugal.

Plate affirmed that his invitation was welcomed by the representative of the Government of Portugal, and there was a high potential for the country to support Indonesia at the ITU Council member election, especially considering the sound relations between both nations.

"Hopefully, they will support us. Considering his gestures and commitments, Minister Mario (Campolargo) highly supports our candidacy,” Plate said after meeting with Portuguese Secretary of State for Digitalization and Modernization of Administration Affairs Mario Campolargo to discuss cooperation potentials in the digital sector.

Furthermore, he stated that by becoming the ITU Council member, Indonesia would be able to propose more fair use of telecommunication and information technology, such as the satellite orbit slots and communication device spectrum arrangements, for all countries, including for developed, developing, and least developed nations.

Indonesia has pushed for three agendas in its candidacy: capacity building, women's empowerment, as well as connecting the unconnected.

In addition to the candidacy as the ITU Council member, Indonesia strives to gather support for the candidacy of an Indonesian telecommunication expert, Meiditomo Sutyarjoko, as a member of the ITU Radio Regulation Board (RRB).

Hence, since mid-2022, the Communication and Informatics Ministry had been actively garnering support for the success of the candidacies.

Numerous bilateral meetings were conducted with various representatives from several countries, such as Germany, Japan, and Portugal, to bolster international support for Indonesia’s candidacy.

The attempt is expected to garner many votes for Indonesia at the ITU Council member election that will be held in coincidence with the implementation of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2022 in Bucharest, Romania, from September 26 to October 14, 2022. (antaranews)

"Indonesia remains committed to fighting for fair distribution and access for COVID-19 prevention products," Marsudi noted in a meeting with the Ethiopian minister of health on the sidelines of the High Level Week of the 77th Sessions of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, as quoted in a press statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

The COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access (COVAX) cooperation program could play its role in strengthening the capacity of developing countries and the global health architecture in the future, Marsudi remarked.

"COVAX can help better prepare for other potential pandemics because COVAX's work mandate will be extended until 2023," she added.

As a forum for multilateral cooperation, COVAX has proven that multilateralism works effectively, according to the minister.

To date, at least 1.84 billion doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been delivered by COVAX to various countries through multilateral channels.

A total of 79 countries have achieved the vaccination target of at least 70 percent, including Indonesia.

Through COVAX, Indonesia has received 130,662,975 -- or 25.6 percent -- of free COVID-19 vaccine doses.

Meanwhile, Minister Tadesse said that the structure of COVAX should be adjusted to the developments of the pandemic in order to increase the capacity of countries to prepare for other potential pandemics.

The two ministers agreed that in future, COVAX should continue to work with WHO as well as ensure countries have the necessary resources to accelerate and develop their national health strategies.
