PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply

PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply (0)

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.

In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.

Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.

"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.

The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.

Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.

PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.

Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.

"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) for Malaysia helps promote halal products from Indonesia at the 2022 Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) that will take place on September 7-10, 2022.

"Hence, we help promote halal products from Indonesia," Trade Attache of the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia Deden Muhammad Fajar Siddiq stated at the MIHAS 2022 event here on Wednesday.

Siddiq spoke of having participated in MIHAS 2022 to promote Indonesian products that meet halal requirements, so that Indonesian exporters can reach more international markets.

He said that currently, halal products are not only related to food and beverages but also to several other goods and services. Hence, there are many halal products from Indonesia being promoted during MIHAS 2022.

These products include clothing, cosmetics, sandals, socks, sarongs, tuna fish, chips, spices, Rembiga satay, Taliwang chicken, palm sugar, and other products that are included in halal food, halal fashion, halal cosmetics and pharmacy, halal tourism and halal in the service sector.

"Hence, products related to halal are, of course, food and drinks, and then, there is also halal fashion, cosmetics, and there are several other products related to halal," he said.

He said the products on display had been curated and selected to be marketed either in Malaysia or in other countries, so he was confident of the quality of Indonesian products and that they could compete with other foreign products.

Through the showcase, Deden is optimistic that Indonesian exporters would be able to build networks with other participants at the exhibition and find potential buyers, so that transactions occur.

"Hence, the target of the exhibition is, of course, to build a network. Second, the follow-up to the output is that there is a trade transaction," he remarked.

Apart from the Malaysian market, Deden expressed hope that Indonesian products would have a wider and growing market in other Muslim countries, such as the Middle East, Central Asia, former Soviet Union countries that are Muslim, and also other countries that are concerned about the halalness of products and services.

"(It is) because in some countries although they are non-Muslims, they are already concerned about halal," he stated.

In the meantime, MIHAS was held in a hybrid manner, with the physical event being held on September 7-10, 2022, and in total, the event involved almost 600 Malaysian exporters and more than 400 buyers from 50 countries, including the Middle East, Europe, Central Asia, South Asia, ASEAN, Oceania, and the African region. The G20 Development Ministerial Meeting (DMM) will discuss blue and green economy implementation and the future of Indonesian aerospace.

The DMM, which is being held under G20 Indonesia's Sherpa Track, is a high-level meeting that will follow up on the results of discussions of the Development Working Group (DWG) that has met three times.

"This is an opportunity to emphasize the great potential of Indonesia's maritime economy, which, if utilized optimally, will contribute significantly to the recovery and transformation of the national economy," deputy for economic affairs at the Ministry of National Development Planning and National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, said here on Tuesday.

The DMM side event will be held in Belitung on September 7–9, 2022, with the theme “The Development of Indonesia's Blue Economy Road Map.”

The DMM side event has three goals: to propose and promote Indonesia's Blue Economy Road Map, to be a forum for sharing the best practices and success stories of countries implementing the blue economy, and to build potential collaboration in the blue economy road map.

The three objectives align with the G20 Development Working Group's first priority, namely strengthening recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring resilience in developing countries, underdeveloped countries, and archipelagic countries through the three key pillars of micro, small, and medium enterprises, adaptive social protection, and low-carbon green and blue economies.

Furthermore, the priority has become the basis for one of the DMM deliverables, which is the G20 Road Map for Stronger Recovery and Resilience in Developing Countries, Least Developed Countries (LDCs), and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

In drafting Indonesia's Blue Economy Road Map, the ministry has collaborated with local and international partners, including the UN Resident Coordinator, International Labour Organization (ILO), UN Environment Programme, ARISE+ Indonesia, and EcoNusa Foundation.

The ministry, together with state-run aircraft manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia, will also hold another G20 DMM side event themed “Harnessing the Ecosystem of Aerospace Industry in Indonesia.”

On the sidelines of this activity, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed between PT Dirgantara Indonesia and Airbus to support the development of the national aerospace ecosystem. (Antaranews)

Indonesia and Switzerland have successfully worked together to develop competent human resources (HR) in the industrial sector through the establishment of the Banten Petrochemical Industry Polytechnic, the Industry Ministry has said.

The first lecture at the polytechnic will begin on September 19, 2022.

The collaboration between the two countries has also been realized through the Skills for Competitiveness (S4C) project.

"We are grateful to the S4C team who have supported since the beginning in the preparation of the founding document, the preparation of the curriculum, to the determination of the equipment layout at this polytechnic by collaborating with several polytechnics of the Ministry of Industry," head of the ministry’s Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI), Arus Gunawan, said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Switzerland is one of the countries that has consistently provided support for vocational education in Indonesia. Through the S4C or Swisscontact project, Switzerland has collaborated in various activities to help prepare competent Indonesian human resources.

Every year, around 1.7 million young Indonesians join the workforce.

This year, Gunawan said, S4C has also supported the implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System, which would be gradually implemented at all education and training units of the Industry Ministry.

"The implementation of the program includes First-Aid Training in Psychological Disorders of Consolidating Safety-Based Behavior, which has been held at the Bantaeng Manufacturing Industry Community Academy, Kendal Wood Processing and Furniture Industry Polytechnic, and Morowali Metal Industry Polytechnic in mid-2022," he informed.

In addition, the ministry and S4C are collaborating to build a Career Development Center, or CDC, which will become an integrated system for fostering student careers from the beginning of school till graduation.

The CDC is being built to carry out measurable and accountable monitoring and evaluation of students and alumni.

According to Gunawan, CDC is a forum for compiling a portfolio of competencies, specializations, and mapping graduate profiles.

As a result, there will be complete and uniform data to support student career paths.

"This system will be connected to the program monitoring and evaluation system from the Presidential Staff Office," Gunawan explained.

S4C will continue its commitment to support vocational education in Indonesia. (Antaranews)

The meeting between G20 leaders in November 2022 must pay attention to and discuss the energy transition in developing countries, lead co-chair of T20 Indonesia, Bambang Brodjonegoro, has said.

"Energy transition for developing countries is an expensive, severe process that requires much sacrifice," he explained during an interview session here on Tuesday.

“So, automatically, there should be an effort to give more attention to developing countries so that they can conduct the energy transition well," he said.

Green financing is necessary so that power plants in developing countries can be transformed into new and renewable energy-based power plantsand provide energy at affordable prices.

"New and renewable energy may already be sustainable and reliable, but it is not yet affordable because, on average, it is still too expensive for developing countries," he noted.

Group 20 or G20 is a multilateral cooperation group that comprises 19 countries and the European Union (EU). T20 is a cooperation forum for think tanks and researchers across G20 member countries.

The Indonesian T20 Presidency has provided recommendations for G20 leaders so that they can discuss fair energy transition for developing countries.

"This is because energy transition is heavily encouraged by European countries since they have the purchasing power," Brodjonegoro said.

European countries can purchase new and renewable-based electricity since they already have green financing, he highlighted.

The schemes that can be utilized to finance the energy transition in developing countries, including Indonesia, comprise blended finance or mixing commercial, conventional finance, state budget, and philanthropic donations.

Through these schemes, the cost of funds for producing new and renewable energy can be brought down and it can be provided at a more affordable price to the people.

He also recommended that electricity prices in Indonesia be made more flexible and not set in a fixed manner during the inking of power purchase agreements (PPAs).

"Usually, the price of electricity that comes from new and renewable energy is high at the start, but then it becomes lower in the future," Brodjonegoro explained.

"This cannot be covered by PPA, so there must be a mindset change to make the price more dynamic," he added. (Antaranews)

All-party collaboration, especially among universities, is needed to handle the waste problem in Jakarta, the Environment Office of South Jakarta has said.

"Every day, at least 7,700 tons of waste from Jakarta is sent to Bantargebang (dumpsite). That amount is equal to one Gelora Bung Karno (stadium in Jakarta)," Head of the Section for Community Participation and Legal Compliance at the office Kamil Salim said at the launch of the Waste Bank National Jamboree here on Monday.

Especially in South Jakarta area, 1,500 tons of waste is produced every day, he noted. Therefore, he lauded Budi Luhur University (UBL) for holding the Waste Bank National Jamboree.

"Indeed, we from the government have been tasked to solve the waste problem. However, if there are stakeholders such as universities, environmental activists, and other stakeholders (who help solve the problem), they are not paid. Meanwhile, I get paid. For me, they are environmental heroes. This is something we have to appreciate," he remarked.

Rector of Budi Luhur Universitý Dr. Ir. Wendi Usino,MSc. said that his party is educating the public to care about waste. He invited the public to take advantage of the waste bank on the UBL campus.

"This waste bank is present to help the community solve the problem of waste in the environment, especially for the community around the campus," he said.

The Waste Bank National Jamboree is the university's initiative to invite the community to care more about the environment, according to the rector. In addition, the university is also conducting research on waste management.

The Waste Bank National Jamboree activity is scheduled to be held in Jakarta from September 14 to September 17, 2022, and will involve people, various communities, and waste bank activists from across Indonesia. (Antaranews)

Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno has appealed to tourism and creative economy players to focus on carefully managing their spending budgets to anticipate the impact of the increase in subsidized fuel prices.

"It is important to save money," he remarked at “The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno,” which was followed online from here on Monday.

In addition to saving money, it is advisable for tourism and creative industry actors to manage their cash flow wisely.

"Many people say that currently ‘cash is king,’ thus entrepreneurs should (only) prioritize really essential expenses," the minister added.

Currently, his ministry is carefully calculating the impact of the increase in fuel prices considering that creative industry players may be deeply affected since the price of their products may also climb due to the hike in the prices of the main materials of the products.

The increase in fuel prices will also raise the price of creative products by around 10–20 percent, the minister predicted.

Hence, he advised tourism and creative industry actors to diversify the materials for their creative products so that they can get the materials at more affordable prices and enjoy more reliable supply.

Furthermore, regarding the surge in land and sea transportation costs, if needed, the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry plans to ask the Finance Ministry to provide social assistance for tourism and creative industry players whose income is below Rp3 million.

"We are committed to continuing to assist with all our might. We are confident we will be able to protect our colleagues (tourism and creative industry players) who are vulnerable (whose income is less than Rp3 million) and in need," Uno added.

The government announced on Saturday (September 3, 2022) that the price of subsidized Pertalite fuel has been revised from Rp7,650 per liter to Rp10 thousand per liter, while the price of subsidized diesel has been adjusted from Rp5,150 per liter to Rp6,800 per liter.

Meanwhile, the price of non-subsidized Pertamax fuel has been raised from Rp12,500 per liter to Rp14,500 per liter. (Antaranews)
