State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.
In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.
Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.
"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.
The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.
Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.
PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.
Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.
"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.
Indonesia and Argentina explored opportunities for cooperation in information and communication technology (ICT)ahead of the G20 Digital Economy Ministers' Meeting (DEMM) in Badung, Bali, on Wednesday.
The exploration of cooperation was marked by a bilateral meeting between Indonesia's Communication and Information Minister, Johnny G. Plate, and Argentina's Secretary of State for Public Innovation, Micaela Sánchez Malcolm.
"With this cooperation, Indonesia has the potential to connect East Asia, South Asia, Europe, to the Middle East, China, Japan, Hong Kong, as well as California," Plate informed in a statement released here on Wednesday.
The DEMM is a part of the Sherpa Track of G20 Indonesia's forum, and has been organized to follow up on the negotiation result of the Digital Economic Working Group (DEWG). The DEMM will be held in Bali on September 1 and 2, 2022.
According to Plate, ICT cooperation between Indonesia and Argentina can be carried out in the upstream sector in the form of distributing broadband to connect the South American region to the Asian region through Australia.
Regarding opportunities for digital collaboration in the downstream sector, he explained that it can be done by building digital economy literacy and conducting training by utilizing various digital spaces owned by the two countries.
To that end, Indonesia and Argentina have agreed to form a team to prepare for the continuation of the cooperation exploration plan, which includes a cooperation framework, legal foundation, agreements, and a draft memorandum, he said.
Responding to this, Malcolm said her side is optimistic that the exploration of cooperation between the two countries will widen the telecommunications connectivity network in Argentina.
"We are optimistic that through this collaboration, telecommunications connectivity, especially in remote areas, will be well connected," she added.
Malcolm also expressed the hope that cooperation between the two countries would soon be realized, considering the importance of telecommunications networks of great quality for meeting increasing community needs in the digital era. (Antaranews)
Indonesia has managed to collect US$1.3 billion for the Financial Intermediary Fund (FIF) from several donor countries during its presidency of the G20.
The funds have been secured for pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response (PPR).
"To date, there have been more than US$1.3 billion in pledges of contributions from sovereign donor countries, including philanthropy," the Indonesian co-chair for JFHTF, Wempi Saputra, informed in an official statement issued in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He said that one of the efforts to ensure good governance while balancing and maintaining the inclusivity of FIF needs of low- and middle-income countries and non-G20 partners was the organization of the 5th G20 Joint Finance and Health Task Force (JFHTF) Meeting.
"We also ensure that the FIF Board remains well-managed, agile, and effective," Saputra added.
JFHTF, under the G20, together with the JFHTF secretariat is playing an important role in supporting health and financial coordination to realize PPR during pandemics and other health emergencies, in line with international health regulations.
The 5th JFHTF G20 Meeting took place virtually on August 30, 2022, as a follow-up to the results of the discussion ofFinance Ministers and Health Ministers and the meeting of Finance Ministers in July.
During the two meetings, the ministers considered two main focuses, namely FIF and the development of coordination arrangements between finance and health.
Later, the results of the JFHTF meeting will be used as inputs for the second meeting of the Ministers of Finance and Health in November, Saputro informed.
In the previous ministerial meeting, the JFHTF was given directions regarding the progress of FIF formation and the development of coordination arrangements between finance and health for pandemic PPR.
Most of the G20 members welcomed the plan for the inaugural meeting of the FIF Management Board, which will be held on September 8 and 9, 2022, as well as the FIF soft launch agenda for pandemic PPR, Saputra said.
At the soft launch, the board will ratify the governance framework and operational manual documents.
Meanwhile, secretary-general of the Health Ministry, Kunta Wibawa, issued an update on the G20 Health Working Group (HWG) meeting, which provided recommendations to the task force regarding the priority of using FIF funds for pandemic PPR.
"This is in line with our priority agenda at the first HWG meeting to mobilize financial resources for the pandemic," Wibawa remarked. (Antaranews)
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has said that the first confirmed monkeypox patient in Indonesia has recovered after undergoing intensive treatment at a hospital.
"I have just been informed that the patient has recovered," he informed while making a presentation on monkeypox during a hearing meeting with Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR), which was followed on the DPR's YouTube channel from here on Tuesday.
On August 20, 2022, the Ministry of Health had announced that Indonesia's first monkeypox infection had been confirmed in a 27-year-old man in Jakarta. The patient had a history of travel to the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, and France.
Based on the investigation, the patient had traveled abroad on July 22 and had arrived back in Jakarta on August 8. The patient had started experiencing the initial symptoms of monkeypox on August 11.
After consulting with several health facilities, the patient had arrived at one of the hospitals owned by the Ministry of Health on August 18 and had been confirmed positive on August 19, based on a PCR test.
The minister said that currently, there are two monkeypox variants, namely the West African and Central African variants, in circulation based on the observation of cases detected in 94 countries.
"The Central African variant is more deadly, while the West African variant is less deadly," Sadikin said.
Based on the result of genome sequencing, the variant found in the patient in Indonesia was the West Africa variant. "Not the one that is deadly like in Central Africa," the minister added.
In Indonesia, 42 suspected cases of monkeypox have been detected by the Ministry of Health so far. Of the 42 suspects, one was confirmed positive, 38 were confirmed negative, while the other three are still under scrutiny. (Antaranews)
The Indonesian State Audit Board (BPK) has said that Parliament 20 (P20) and Supreme Audit Institutions G20 (SAI20) have the same interests and can strengthen collaboration for accelerating post-pandemic economic recovery.
The collaboration can also accelerate the achievement of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development goals (SDGs).
"Therefore, SAI20 needs to cooperate with representative institutions and other stakeholders to carry out an independent supervisory function to ensure the success of the policies and programs of the G20 countries," BPK head, Isma Yatun, said at the SAI20 Summit in Nusa Dua, here on Tuesday.
The SAI20 Summit is an engagement group initiated by the BPK and attended by representatives from supreme audit institutions of 12 G20 member countries.
The parliament's role is crucial in increasing accountability and transparency in government policy-making and public sector spending. For that reason, she acknowledged the importance of P20's role in the G20 community.
As the COVID-19 pandemic begins to decline, it will be increasingly crucial for the government to focus more on economic recovery and achieving the sustainable development goal (SDG) targets. For that reason, SAI20 has been formed to contribute significantly to accelerating economic recovery and achieving the SDG targets, which are the two priority issues of the current SAI20 Summit.
The formation of SAI20 is an initial step to expanding the value and benefits of supreme audit institutions in supporting the G20. Through its communiqué, SAI20 has shown its role, commitment, and recommendations to ensure the effectiveness of G20 programs and policies, especially related to the two priority issues of SAI20.
Yatun said that the SAI20 communiqué encourages G20 governments to accelerate economic recovery and achieve the 2030 agenda by improving the global health architecture, promoting the transition to renewable energy and a greener economy, and ensuring the realization of digital transformation.
SAI20 aims to push synergy between SAI20 and the G20 community, including P20.
"With the 'Recover Together, Recover Stronger' spirit, we hope the SAI20 Summit will serve as an important milestone for the SAI20 community to contribute more significantly to the global community," the BPK head remarked. (Antaranews)
The National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) has prepared three alternative strategies to support the provision of drugs and vaccines for treating monkeypox in Indonesia.
This was conveyed by Head of the BPOM Penny K. Lukito while attending a hearing meeting with Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) here on Tuesday.
The first strategy is implementing an expanded access scheme for clinical trials where the subjects are monitored and their immune response is measured.
However, for vaccines and drugs which are still being researched, permission will be granted through the Special Access Scheme (SAS).
The clinical trials will be carried out by the pharmaceutical industry in Indonesia to examine the efficacy, safety, and quality of the vaccines and drugs.
Meanwhile, the second strategy is issuing emergency-use authorization (EUA)—the same permit that allowed the use of COVID-19 vaccines.
"It can be issued soon within 20 working days according to the results of the evaluation of various countries which have given the permission. The main requirement (of issuing the EUA) is that there must be an official state of emergency from the governments (of the countries)," the BPOM head said.
Some monkeypox vaccines whose provision can be expedited through EUA in Indonesia include the Jynneos/Imvanex/Imvamune vaccine, which has been approved in several countries.
The third strategy also involves SAS. However, under this strategy, SAS will be utilized to grant permits for vaccines and medicines that have been approved in several countries in limited quantities and whose use is controlled by health programs, Lukito added.
During the same meeting, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin informed that the government has ordered two thousand doses of the monkeypox vaccine produced by Denmark-based Bavarian Nordic to protect the public from infection.
"Assisted by the Indonesian Embassy in Denmark, we have ordered two thousand doses of the vaccine from Bavarian Nordic," he said. (antaranews)
The government has agreed to further deliberate on the parliament-initiated bill on the creation of Southwest Papua province, Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian has informed.
"On behalf of the government, we have agreed to deliberate on it together (in the parliament)," he said in Jakarta on Monday.
The deliberation on the bill must pay attention to its harmony with other related laws in terms of formal, technical, material, and substantial aspects, he added.
“Particularly, the crucial matters that we need to observe and anticipate wisely," he said.
In addition, the government also appreciates the initiative right of the House of Representatives (DPR), which proposed the bill, he added.
President Joko Widodo has assigned Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of National Development Planning and head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa, and Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Hamonangan Laoly to represent the government in deliberations on the bill.
The deliberations on the bill must ensure and give room to the indigenous people of Papua in terms of political, administrative, economic, and sociocultural activities, Karnavian said.
The measure is needed to expedite development programs, improve public services, increase public welfare, and promote the honor and dignity of indigenous Papuan people, he added.
He expressed the hope that the establishment of Southwest Papua province will accelerate the realization of developmental programs in the region through the constant observation of political, administrative, and legal aspects, sociocultural unity or customary regions, preparedness of human resources, basic infrastructures, and economic capacity.
The creation of Southwest Papua province is based on Article 76 of Law No. 2 of 2021 concerning the second round of amendment to Law No. 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for Papua Province. (antaranews)
Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno is preparing to bring super-priority tourist destinations in Indonesia under a single management authority.
He said that the idea emerged when he held a working meeting with Commission X of the House of Representatives.
"We are currently working on this bill (tourism bill) and especially for super-priority destinations so that there is no more ineffective coordination," Uno said at the “The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno,” which was followed online from Jakarta on Monday.
Ineffective coordination could eventually create distortions in society even as Indonesia struggles to improve the tourism sector, he added.
He said that cultural heritages and national parks should be maintained properly.
"We see that there must be a single management authority, which can provide complete information in narrative form. The narration is about what is being done by the government and how the products are offered," Uno explained.
A single management authority is needed even though the manager would be a part of the government.
"Everything must be managed properly, so that the narrative that comes out to the public becomes a single narrative for our awakening," Uno said.
This will allow Indonesia to reduce conflict and create quality and sustainable tourism in an effort to create jobs as well as benefits for the community.
"Learned from Labuan Bajo, people do not understand much about our conservation efforts. We expect that with the existence of the single management authority, we can convey our integrated narrative efforts to the public," the minister said.
He earlier invited a delegation led by US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) president and CEO Ted Osius to help develop Indonesia's tourism and creative economy sector.
"One of (the efforts) is by strengthening the capacity and capability of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the tourism and creative economy sector through digitalization," Uno said.
The goal of digitizing and empowering MSMEs is aimed at creating 1.1 million new jobs in 2022 and 4.4 million jobs in 2024, he informed.
Meanwhile, the meeting with the US-ABC delegation was aimed at increasing the understanding of the US business world about the Indonesian government's policies to further develop economic cooperation between the US and Indonesia, especially in the tourism and creative economy sector.
According to Uno, digitalization has a crucial role in the major paradigm shift toward the digital-based economy, which is proceeding rapidly due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"A digital touch will basically create quality and sustainable jobs," he said. (Antaranews)
The Supreme Audit Institutions G20 (SAI20) and G20 countries will collaborate to implement the sustainable development goals (SDGs) and encourage post-COVID-19 economic recovery, Head of the Indonesian State Audit Board (BPK) Isma Yatun has said.
“As the world strives to recover from the pandemic, all of us face various challenges, including in economic, social, and environmental aspects," she noted here on Monday.
The establishment of SAI20 was initiated by the BPK during Indonesia's 2022 G20 Presidency to contribute, among other things, to the transparency and accountability of good governance.
Since the beginning of the G20 leadership transition process in 2021, a series of meetings have been held to prepare for the establishment of SAI20 as an engagement group at the G20.
The meetings have discussed two main outputs of SAI20, including the rules of procedures as well as the SAI20 communique regarding the acceleration of economic recovery and support for the achievement of the SDGs.
The BPK head said that the rules of procedures will enable and support the internal processes and decision-making of SAI20 as well as direct its operational arrangement.
Meanwhile, the SAI20 communique contains a plan to bring together all stakeholders to collaborate with the Supreme Audit Institutions of the G20 countries.
"The communique can be realized by implementing concrete actions through dialogue and intensive cooperation between SAI and the government as well as stakeholders, thus we can all contribute to the attempts to solve problems in the current global situation, which is truly challenging," Yatun remarked.
In addition, she said that the joint communique can become an independent and objective reference for G20 leaders to ensure and improve the implementation of the principles of good governance in the public sector as well as the effectiveness of their programs and policies.
"Later, I believe that the establishment of SAI20 will encourage innovations to further strengthen the role of SAI," the BPK head added. (Antaranews)
A "Kirab Merah Putih" or Red and White Parade, joined by more than 10,000 people, was flagged off by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) from a road in front of the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta, on Sunday.
At the event which took place at around 07:00 a.m. local time, President Jokowi was accompanied by charismatic ulema Habib Luthfi bin Yahya, and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
"Along with the police chief and Habib Luthfi bin Yahya, by uttering bismillahirrahmanirrahim (in the name of Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful), the Kirab Merah Putih is flagged off," he said.
According to Habib Luthfi, a member of the Presidential Advisory Board, the Red and White Parade was performed to thank the almighty God for bestowing a country with the wealth of fertile land on Indonesians.
"We had passed through 350 years with fights that had finally enabled us to hoist our national flag. This is not a gift. Instead, the Red and White can be hoisted thanks to the founders of our nation's services," he said.
Therefore, to thank their services, Habib Luthfi called for members of young generation's active contribution to the nation's development.
"Through the parade this morning, we show our readiness for using the Red and White in our lifetime. We are always committed to protecting the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI)," he said.
A collective commitment to serving and protecting the NKRI was the main objective of this Red and White Parade in an endeavor to restore a sense of ownership for the Motherland, Habib Luthfi added.
On August 17 this year, Indonesia celebrated the 77th anniversary of its independence.
A day before the commemoration, President Jokowi delivered his state address at the 2022 annual session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD).
In his state address, President Jokowi highlighted four strengths that Indonesia has. One of them is its ability to emerge as a strong nation in facing the COVID-19 pandemic.
"If we are able to manage the pandemic well, then it means that we will also be able to manage other big agendas. This is our first strength to build our country," Jokowi said.
Indonesia's second strength is its abundant natural resources. "The vast area, with the richest biodiversity in the world, will surely become Indonesia's great strength if we manage it wisely and sustainably."
However, related stakeholders should apply several conditions, including domestic downstreaming and industrialization, to bring added value and maximize national interests, he stated.
"This will open employment opportunities, increase exports, generate foreign exchange, increase state income, and boost economic growth," the president remarked.
President Jokowi noted that the third strength was the demographic bonus or a large number of young people of the productive age.
He believes that the demographic bonus as well as the increasing purchasing power of the people would become the driving force of the national economy in facing the global competition.
The fourth strength is the sharp increase in international trust. Indonesia is accepted by Russia and Ukraine to serve as a communication bridge to broker peace despite the geopolitical situation heating up.
"Indonesia is also trusted by the United Nations as Champions from the Global Crisis Response Group for handling global crises," he added. (Antaranews)
The Industry Ministry has consistently encouraged the development of industrial estates to boost growth in manufacturing sector and investment.
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the ministry has taken steps to accelerate the development of industrial estates, and to improve their productivity, among others by developing smart eco-industrial parks, also known as the fourth generation industrial estates.
"The number of industrial estates in Indonesia as of July 2022 has reached 138 companies," Kartasasmita said in a statement here Sunday.
The estates, he continued, are mostly categorized as the third generation ones.
If the first generation industrial estates are fully developed and managed by the government, the second generation ones are built by the private sector but the government still acts as a regulator.
Meanwhile, the third generation industrial estates are equipped with settlements with all supporting facilities in an effort to create an independent and modern industrial city.
Kartasasmita said the development in digital technology has also affected the industrial estates that started to move toward the fourth generation ones.
A smart eco-industrial park or the fourth generation industrial estate is marked with the application of principles of sustainable development such as carbon emission reduction, circular economy, and green industry that bridge the transition toward renewable energy.
The ministry has worked closely with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) of Switzerland to implement the Global Eco Industrial Park Programme (GEIPP), launched in July 2020.
Under the program, an industrial estate will get the support in the form of capacity building and workshop on the implementation of International Framework for Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) to improve resources productivity, economic performance, environment, social and business for industrial estate.
The minister has applauded Jababeka Industrial Estate that organized the Jababeka Tenant Award 2022 under the theme "Digital Transformation Drives to Green Industry".
"This collaboration is aimed to materialize Strong Indonesia, Growing Industry" through the transformation of industrial estate toward an eco-industrial park," he noted.
There are 1,800 industrial tenants from 30 countries in Jababeka industrial estate. The estate has provided jobs for 1.7 million workers which furthermore would improve people's welfare and boost the local economy.
"As the management of the industrial estate, Jababeka attempts to provide its best services to tenants in accordance to their needs," PT Jababeka's Director Hyanto Wihadhi said.
The awards were given to tenant companies in four categories namely Best of The Best Tenant Award, Best of Green Tenant Award, Best of CSR Program Contributor Tenant Award, and Best of Estate Regulation Compliance Tenant Award. (Antaranews)
