PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply

PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply (0)

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.

In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.

Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.

"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.

The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.

Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.

PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.

Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.

"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.

The Kelimutu National Park Office, Ende district, East Nusa Tenggara, has reported that the number of international tourist visits to Lake Kelimutu increased significantly from 872 in July 2022 to 1,243 in August.

"There has been a significant increase in foreign tourist visits to Kelimutu National Park due to several factors, such as the opening of flight routes from overseas to Indonesia and the holiday season in Europe," Head of the office  Hendrikus Rani Siga  informed when contacted from here on Tuesday.

According to Siga, in addition to the two factors, the increase in tourist visits was strongly influenced by the improving COVID-19 conditions in Indonesia, which made tourists feel more confident about traveling.

Intensive promotions during the COVID-19 pandemic helped attract lots of tourists to the tri-colored lake, too, he said.

While the number of foreign tourists has continued to increase since February, the number of domestic tourists has fallen to reach 5,258 in August, according to data for 2022 from the Kelimutu National Park.

In July, the number of domestic tourists was recorded at 8,850. Siga said the increase was caused by the opening of inter-island flight routes.

Based on the existing data, the total visits by foreign and domestic tourists in August reached 6,501, down from 9,722 in July.

Meanwhile, head of the Ende District Tourism Office, Martinus Satban, said that various efforts have been made to promote Lake Kelimutu on Flores Island.

The Ende district government has been striving to increase and improve the number and quality of tourism activities and develop tourist attractions and villages.

In addition, the local administration has also made efforts to improve the quality of tourism human resources through the provision of training and mentoring on tourism village management. (Antaranews)

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called on regional governments to immediately conduct interventions against high inflation in their regions.

"(Please), conduct interventions in districts and cities with the highest inflation," the head of state noted at a meeting on inflation control with all regional heads, held in hybrid format at the State Palace here on Monday.

The 10 districts and cities with the highest inflation rates are Luwuk at 7.8 percent; Jambi, 7.8 percent; Kotabaru, 7.5 percent; Sampit, 7.5 percent; Tanjung Selor, 7.4 percent; Jayapura, 7.4 percent; Sintang, 7.4 percent; Bungo, 7.2 percent; Padang, 7.1 percent; and Sibolga, 6.9 percent.

"Five out of the 10 provinces, be careful. Please observe them thoroughly. These five provinces are in Sumatra," Jokowi added.

Meanwhile, the provinces with the highest inflation are Jambi, at 7.7 percent; West Sumatra, 7.1 percent; Central Kalimantan, 6.9 percent; Maluku, 6.7 percent; Papua, 6.5 percent; Bali, 6.4 percent; Central Sulawesi, 6.2 percent; West Nusa Tenggara, 5.9 percent; Riau, 5.9 percent; and South Kalimantan, 5.8 percent.

"Once again, be cautious. If it is not intervened, then there will be an increase in poverty," the head of state noted, adding that the inflation rate is influenced by the increase in food prices.

"We should know the consequences of inflation, especially those related to food prices. The contribution of food prices to poverty is 74 percent. Once food prices rise, it means that poverty (rate) in a region will also increase," he explained.

To this end, the head of state requested all regional heads in provinces, districts, and cities throughout the country to be aware of their food supply chains.

Furthermore, Jokowi has instructed that two percent of the General Transfer Fund (DTU) comprising the General Allocation Fund (DAU) and the Revenue Sharing Fund (DBH) be used to overcome inflation.

He also called to continue to increase the realization of the regional budget (APBD) since it still reached 47 percent as of September 2022.  (Antaranews)

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology invited delegates of G20 Senior Officials Meeting and Culture Ministers' Meeting to plant the seeds of cultural heritage trees in Pelataran Kenari, Borobudur Temple Complex.

The planting of tree seeds is a concrete action to strengthen the concept of sustainable living, recover together and recover stronger, as well as to demonstrate the role of culture in achieving global sustainability, the ministry noted in its statement on Tuesday.

The activity was attended by Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Anwar Makarim.

"Culture is essential in life. The tree planting at Borobudur Temple also illustrates the unification of life and culture. Hence, tree planting is a concrete manifestation for Indonesia and other G20 countries to preserve our Earth," Minister Makarim remarked.

The Director General of Culture of the Ministry, also acting as G20 Culture Ministerial Meeting Coordinator, Hilmar Farid, said that such an activity aims to symbolically enhance the beauty and strengthen the theme of G20 Culture to support global sustainable living.

"This activity can inspire the G20 delegates to restore the world, one step at a time," Farid remarked.

For the planting, the ministry prepared five types of tree seeds inspired by the reliefs of Lalitavistara and Avadhana Borobudur Temple: Nagasari tree seeds (Mesua ferrea L.) symbolizing the palace and forest, Pulai tree seeds (Alstonia scholaris L.R.Br) meaning a tree with thick and sacred leaves, Tanjung tree seeds (Mimusops elengi L.) that is a sacred plant associated with the Buddha, Tamarind tree seeds (Tamarindus indica L), and Walnut tree seeds (Canarium indicum L).

The G20 delegates involved in tree planting showed enthusiasm while planting tree seeds using the provided shovels, followed by watering the plants using a scoop made from coconut husks.

"This activity symbolizes that we are united together to preserve our earth through cultural means for a better future. As leaders of the G20 Culture Ministers' Meeting, we hope this activity would strengthen the essence of restoring and preserving our earth, now and in the future," Farid concluded. (AntaranewS)

"G20 member countries will voluntarily explore this funding platform in the hope that it would provide the necessary support to recover the cultural economy sector that has been severely impacted by the pandemic," Hilmar stated.

G20 countries, special invitees, and international organizations also expressed their appreciation and support for the leadership shown during the Indonesian G20 Presidency.

For instance, the German delegate—Head of Division, International Cooperation on Cultural Affairs, Office of the Minister of State for Culture and the Media—Christian Groni praised Indonesia for incorporating the culture sector into this year's G20 presidency.

The Indonesian Government is preparing a legal foundation for implementing the blue economy strategy, which pays attention to ecology and maritime ecosystems to realize healthy, safe, resilient, and productive oceans.

"The legal foundation is being prepared, hopefully, it can be completed soon," Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said after a briefing on the implementation of blue economy strategy in the fisheries sector, in Semarang, Central Java, on Sunday.

Once there is a legal foundation, Trenggono said, the blue economy strategy will be piloted in several regions first before it can be implemented thoroughly.

"It will not be applied massively but with a trial first. If it is good, it will be implemented (widely). So, the sustainability of the marine ecosystem will run well, and fishers will benefit (from it)," he said.

Trenggono emphasized that the application of the blue economy strategy is a form of the government's support for traditional local fishers.

"We (the government) want to side with them, one of which is by reviving economic growth, so that fishers can develop," the minister explained.

Five points of the blue economy strategy include expanding conservation areas, with a target of 30 percent of the total area of the Indonesian waters.

Secondly, quota-based fish catching and establishing conservation zones in six fishing zones.

The third is the Love Ocean Month "Bulan Cinta Laut" program, where the role of fishers in marine waste management is accentuated. Fourth, the arrangement of marine space for the protection of coastal and marine ecosystems, and fifth, the utilization of the marine resources balance to measure the sustainability of marine resources.

Moreover, there are cultivation policies that aim to reduce the number of catches, so that certain fish populations can be maintained. (Antaranews)

The Environment and Forestry Ministry has invited residents of Belitung District, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, to preserve mangroves as it has significant role for climate change mitigation.

"I hope that mangrove trees can be protected so that they will grow and develop well," the Director of Environmental Partnerships at the ministry's Directorate General of Social Forestry and Environmental Partnerships, Jo Kumala Dewi, said in Tanjung Pandan, Belitung, on Sunday.

Dewi was in Belitung to participate in a program to plant 10 thousand trees in the Seberang Bersatu Communal Forest, Juru Seberang Village, Belitung.

Mangrove trees are essential in anticipating the impacts of climate change, she noted.

"The impacts of climate change have become very apparent in Indonesia and has occurred in a number of regions such as floods in California, the U.S, and forest fires in Australia," she said.

Therefore, Dewi called on the community to put efforts together in climate change mitigation.

"One of (the efforts) is by preserving mangroves in coastal areas. I believe those present here are those whose souls are one with nature," she commented.

Furthermore, she said that mitigation efforts against the impacts of climate change must continue to be carried out jointly.

"We will inherit this one earth to our children and grandchildren. Let's make a recovery together and we will enjoy the results together," Dewi said.

The existence of a good mangrove ecosystem can also increase the resilience of coastal communities against climate change.

In September 2021, during a working visit to Cilacap District, Central Java, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) explained that mangrove trees are expected to reduce wave energy, protect beaches from abrasion, inhibit water intrusion, and improve the coastal environment. (Antaranews)

Indonesia and Japan will seek to improve cooperation in the manufacturing sector through strategic measures and the realization of commitments made at bilateral and regional forums.

In the near future, one of the agendas that the two countries will focus on is the completion of the protocol for amendments to the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJ-EPA), which would be announced by their heads of state at the G20 Summit in November 2022 in Bali.

“We will open broader access and offer more substantive ones in relation to trade in goods negotiations related to manufactured products. We hope that this will be mutually beneficial for both parties," Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Thursday.

There are several issues that are still being negotiated for the IJ-EPA collaboration, including trade of goods, services, economic cooperation, the movement of natural persons, and the rule of origin.

They further comprise issues pertaining to industry, the implementation of the new MIDEC program, and improved offers for steel products.

The Industry Ministry said it is expecting support from the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) for the agenda of the Indonesian G20 Presidencyto include the topic of industrial sustainability in G20 discussions.

The Indonesian government proposed this inclusion during the 2022 Trade, Investment, and Industry Working Group (TIIWG), and said it expected that the discussions on industry issues would be carried out consistently during the next Presidency.

In the Zero Draft Ministerial Statement on Trade, Investment, and Industry, which was distributed to G20 members, Indonesia proposed an alternative to the Industry Working Group as a forum for discussing industrial issues during the next Presidency.

During a meeting with Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, and the Industry Minister in Jakarta last week, the newly inaugurated Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), Nishimura Yasutoshi, commended the Indonesian G20 Presidency and expressed support for pushing the discussion on industrial issues.

In addition, Indonesia is expecting support from Japan to accelerate the achievement of zero emissions through collaboration in innovative technologies, such as hydrogen and ammonia technology.

"In addition, it is also expected that the support of new Japanese knowledge and technology to support several strategic projects in Indonesia, particularly for the downstreaming of natural commodities, the development of electric cars and motorcycles, as well as the health and food sector," he added.

The Industry Minister also lauded the commitment of Japanese automotive companies that have continued to increase their investment in Indonesia, for instance, Mitsubishi, which was committed to increasing investment in new models, including hybrid vehicles, and Toyota, which will make huge investments to produce electric vehicles.

In addition to the automotive sector, Sojitz Corporation's plan to build a methanol industry in Bintuni Bay, West Papua, was also discussed during the meeting. (Antaranews)
