The external factor, global economic uncertainty is increasingly pressuring Indonesia. Despite strong domestic economic fundamentals, efforts to boost Indonesia's economy will be heavier this year. External factors, among others, the increasing of USA-China trade wars, and China's economic growth which is expected to weaken to 6.5 percent this year, India and European Union trade barriers, as well as the hike of world crude oil prices. The influence of external factors, among others, is reflected in the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar and the Composite Stock Price Index. Director of Center for Reform on Economic, Muhamad Faisal, told Kompas yesterday (28/6) that the hike of world crude oil prices, trade barriers, and commodity price’s uncertainty make Indonesia's trade balance deficit. The hike of US central bank , the Fed interest rate which responded by Bank Indonesia by raising the benchmark interest rate will raise the credit rate. If lending rates rise, the real sector will be heavier in driving the domestic economy. From that indicator alone, it is difficult for Indonesia to develop its economic growth. Chief economist of PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero), Winang Budoyo, said that currently Bank Indonesia is predicted to prioritize rupiah stability rather than economic growth.

Here are the Headlines of several national newspapers published today, June 28, 2018.

We begin with Kompas entitled, "More Matured Democracy."

The simultaneous regional election on Wednesday (27/6) indicated that democracy in Indonesia got more matured. This was seen from the post-voting situation which was relatively secure; as well as the results in some regions which showed that voters considered more the capability and track record of the candidates, instead of their political relation. Still, some issues happened in the 2018 Regional Election. From 171 regions, two failed to have election for regent due to security issues, namely Nduga and Painai, both in Papua Province. The two regencies’ General Election Commission (KPU) will hold voting later. Issues also happened in other places, yet not that massive. For instance, voting in 10 polling stations across Morowali, Central Sulawesi was hampered by flood.

Besides that, some other surprises happened. From the quick count, incumbent candidate Agung Syahri Mulyo got more votes in Tulungagung, East Java despite he is currently being held by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for some infrastructure project corruption cases. However at the same time, from 16 single candidate pairs in this year's regional election, one was defeated by empty box in Makassar city, South Sulawesi. They are Munafri Arifudin & Andi Rahmatika Dewi. On that, Indonesian Institutes of Science (LIPI) senior researcher Syamsudin Haris in Jakarta, Wednesday (27/6) said, the voters got more critical; they used common sense and got more autonomous in deciding. This condition, according to Haris, was a good sign for democracy in Indonesia.

Moving on to Tempo entitled, "Figure Strength Decides."

More than half of this country's citizens had chosen their regional leaders yesterday. Quick count results by various institutions showed that figure decides the voting, instead of political parties. Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) Executive Director Kuskrido Ambardi yesterday (27/6) said, political parties with dominant votes in several regions were proven losing. Ridwan Kamil in West Java for example, defeated his competitors which was supported by Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) - the most voted party during 2014 Legislative Election in the province. The PDIP voters chosen Ridwan Kamil instead of Tubagus Hasanuddin.

Executive Director of Indonesian pollster Indikator Politik Indonesia, Burhanuddin Muhtadi had similar opinion with Kuskrido Ambardi. Burhanuddin said, three big parties namely National Awakening Party (PKB), PDIP, and Gerindra Party failed to make Saufulah Yusuf & Puti Guntur Soekarno as governor and deputy governor of East Java. Meanwhile, Emil Dardak - former Trenggalek regent, who accompanied governor candidate Khofifah Indar Parawansa, was seen more experienced to manage the region instead of Puti - member of House of Representatives. As deputy governor, Emil Dardak is a better vote-maker than Puti. PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristianto also did not deny the figure factor in regional election.

We end the Headlines with Bisnis Indonesia entitled, "Strong Capital Maintains Economy."

Contestation onregional election without problem is expected to return national business climate and investment spirit which temporarily stopped due to wait and see move of the businesspeople and investors. Despite waiting for the poll recapitulation by General Election Commission KPU, quick counts by some survey institutions were enough to describe the winning map of the candidate pairs. Regional Autonomy Watch (KPPOD) Executive Director Robert Endi Jaweng said, realizing a peaceful, safe, and smooth regional election was not easy. Therefore, the success in having the simultaneous democratic festivitymust be appreciated, because it showed that the development of our democracy was more mature. Compared to the previous regional election, Robert said, Indonesia had leveled up, because the political elites and the people became more matured in voting.

SEMUA IKAN DI LANGIT

In today’s Book and Film Review, we will review an Indonesian novel entitled, “Semua Ikan di Langit” or in English means “All Fishes in the Sky”, written by Ziggy Zezsyazeoviennazabrizkie. Ziggy is a young Indonesian writer who won a writing competition held by an Indonesian publisher, Grasindo – Gramedia. Ziggy may be a shy girl who does not want her identity get exposed, but her works are simply amazing. For instance, in “Semua Ikan di Langit”, Ziggy used a language style that cannot be found in other novels. Her imagination is quite high, like when she depicted a bus which can travel in the skies and even through dimension and time.

The story told by Ziggy broadens readers’ horizon. Meticulous depictions of every character are very imaginative, yet still completely make sense. The readers can imagine the shape of the bus told by Ziggy, and even its passengers. In an interview with Voice of Indonesia, Ziggy shared us about that.

“…The premise of the story is actually pretty simple it’s centered around a bus humanist adventure on a space time travel got it by a curious boy who’s floating in the air and has a lot of fish hands the title and along the way they made a lot of visitation, they pick up passengers since the character is a bus so we still have the purpose in that but other than that it’s pretty much open for interpretation some like to make try to find a different meaning behind the story but some just take it as it is. I would like to let people interpret it on their own so I try not to answer the questions about what it actually means, I really like to reserve that right, the right to interpret to the readers.” Ziggy explain.

The main character in “Semua Ikan di Langit” is even a bus which operates in Bandung, West Java. Instead of humans, its passengers are a mother roach who just gave birth to five babies in a lab; then, a school of halfbeak fishes swimming around the bus, which enable the bus to fly; and apparently a boy who provides power for the fishes, so that the bus can travel in time and space. It is impossible for such imagination to be found in short time.

“…Well there’s actually a lot of consideration regarding the character. I realize that it’s not common for a bus narrate a story but I have a lot of consideration whether it’s personal and also conceptual, visual and off course symbolic meaning behind it but it really connect with how you will interpret the story so it’s just that there’s a lot of consideration behind it, I’m just going to leave it like that.” Ziggy added.

In the beginning, readers may be confused with the story, but not after they pass through page 64. The vague story turns clear. “Semua Ikan di Langit” has 259 pages and is apparently unique for its ability to describe the bitter sweetness of human life. There is no idea why Ziggy created those characters in her novel. But, what does Ziggy want to say through her peculiar story?

“…Well first of all thank you, as I said the message behind the story is very simple. The story have a lot of different part but they serve specific purposes but the whole think actually balls down to a very simple moral value which is just to be kind to one another regardless of anything. I mean the story is essentially a love story it’s just that it’s not a romantic story it’s not about a boy and a girl fell in love and all the disaster they have to overcome.  It’s universal love and it’s just talking about affection that goes beyond boundaries and this is what I want to conveyed to people that it can exist.” Ziggy said.

“Semua Ikan di Langit” or “All Fishes in the Sky” which successfully won competition evidently has love in it. Every single word in this book turns into intriguing story that people may find it quite deep. Readers can find a story of peace amidst the chaotic world, where love for fellow human beings still exists. Alright listener, that was our brief review of a novel entitled “Semua Ikan di Langit” or “All Fishes in the Sky” written by Ziggy Zezsyazeoviennazabrizkie.
