The Indonesian Embassy in Beirut has acknowledged its continued support for trade cooperation improvement between Indonesia and Lebanon. Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon Hajriyanto Y Thohari gave the Primaduta Award to Lebanese businessman and importer, George R Fattouh. The award was given for his service in helping market Indonesian products in Paris from the Middle East. The award was given at a ceremony at the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut, Thursday (11/1) Fatough, is the owner of George R. Fattouh S.A.L, a business that has been importing Indonesian products since the 1980s. It has a range of products, including: palm oil and its derivatives, oil and fats (including cocoa butter substitute, fat spread, hydrogenated palm kernel oil, and lauric confectionery fats), cardboard, stationary, and school equipment. Some Indonesian products are now even available at famous retail networks, such as Spinney’s and Carrefour. In 2022, the value imported by George R. Fattough S.A.L of Indonesian products, was 981.3 million USD. This was a 149.5 million USD increase when compared to 2021. Fattouh said Indonesian products are known for their quality and are in high demand in Lebanese markets. However, he said, the challenge now is increasing freight costs due to security challenges in the region.

Listeners, a number of delicious dishes were served to the guests of Dhaup Ageng Pura Pakualaman Yogyakarta, at the wedding reception of the youngest son of K.G.P.A.A. Paku Alam X, namely B.P.H. Kusumo Kuntonugroho with Laily Annisa Kusumastuti which was held on January 10, 2024.Head of the Customs and Accommodation Division, Dhaup Ageng Pura Pakualaman, KRT Radyo Wisroyo said that the menu served to guests was quite varied. These menus are typical menus prepared by Pakualaman Pura, Indonesian menus and western food menus were also available. All invited guests including VIP and VVIP guests got the same menu. The first menu served to welcome guests, namely two types of welcome drink, namely lime lemongrass and ginger drink with lime. The welcome drink was given when guests sat down and watched the Bedhaya Sidamukti and Bedhaya Kakung Indrawidagda dance performances. Next, they gotsnacks for appetizer such as croquettes and other light snacks. There is a snack that is considered quite special and rare called Garulina. Garulina was the opening snack at the Pahargyan Dhaup Ageng Pakualaman lunch on the first day. Garulina has been around since the era before Indonesian independence. Garulina is actually not a typical Central Javanese food. It looks like the Lapis Legit layered cake, but there is something different, because there is a special layer like vla which is made from fresh milk, eggs and sugar. To get this sweet snack, Pakulaman Temple has to place a special order from the third generation of makers who have been pioneering since the 1950s. In Jogja, Garulina is very difficult to find and is considered rare because it is not sold every day.

In this digital era, local governments take advantage of digital services, both through applications and social media to respond to public complaints. As what the Bandung City Government has done, this integrates all digital services in an application called ‘Smart City Sadayana’. This application is a one-stop service to access various online services provided by all Regional Apparatus Organizations, Bandung City Government. Acting Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana said that the integration of digital services is an effort to provide convenience for the community so that the community can be served one door through Sadayana.
The service, which was launched on December 17, can be accessed via the smartcity.bandung.go.id and a mobile version is already available. The utilization of Sadayana is expected to be able to discuss several things that have been problems in the community. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, digital use has become the main medium in providing services. The concept of smart city services is not only about information technology, but also about an effort to suppress the spread of the virus by minimizing physical interaction. There are many features in the Sadayana application, such as 112, complaints, and there is also a chat board. To date, there have been around 5,000 people who have downloaded the mobile version.
Besides Sadayana, the Bandung city government also launched the Sigayapintar application (Integrated Prestigious Cultural Heritage Information System). This application makes it easier to access the existence of cultural heritage, empowers effective management and supervision, and becomes a reference for determining policies related to cultural heritage buildings.

EXPO 2020 Dubai, Indonesia stage to show digital infrastructure

EXPO 2020 Dubai is a stage for Indonesia to showcase the potential and efforts of the government in developing the country through digital infrastructure readiness. Now, in the thirteenth week of the event, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics along with the Indonesian Pavilion displays the government's development of digital service innovations.
There are four pillars of development innovation by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics brought to Expo 2020 Dubai, including digital infrastructure, digital governance, digital economy, and digital society. These four pillars are the keys to accelerating digital transformation in Indonesia. In a business forum that takes place from December 24, 2021 to January 6, 2022, the Ministry explained the efforts, achievements and investment opportunities in the digital sector, starting from the Indonesia Broadband Roadmap, 5G Spectrum Roadmap in Indonesia, Digital Access as Universal Human Rights, IoT Ecosystem and Technology, to Digital Ecosystem for Rural Community.
The Ministry of Communications and Informatics also held training on robotics programming and the Internet of Things (IoT). By collaborating with the robotics team from AKPRINDO, one of the technology education institutions in Indonesia, the Ministry collaborates with educational institutions in Dubai to jointly study robot programming that has been developed by Indonesia.
Robot technology made by the Indonesian people is also exhibited, ranging from fire-fighting legged robots, frisbee-throwing robots, arrow-throwing robots to IoT-based automated delivery robots. In addition, the Ministry also exhibits passenger drones, sprayer drones, smart battery checkers and IoT-based vaccine temperature loggers. Indonesian startups also show off at the Expo 2020 Dubai event. This is a sign that the development of e-commerce in Indonesia in recent years has increased quite rapidly.

One of them is the Fish Go Application created by Indonesian children. It is a fish position tracking application based on a remote sensing and navigation system to help fishermen find catch areas more easily and accurately. I Gede Merta Yoga Pratama is the inventor of the Fish Go Application.
This application was inspired by the popular Pokemon Go Game a few years ago. This concept inspired I Gede Merta Yoga Pratama to create Fish Go. It was made because of the condition of Indonesia, that is known as a maritime country. But in fact, fishermen are still classified as a vulnerable group with high job risks. Fishing activities, which are still very traditional, are no longer of much help. The circulation of the constellations that have been the reference so far in fact still makes fishermen have to go around looking for fish gathering points, fuel consumption becomes more. In addition, the fishermen also have to face dangers because they are not equipped with accurate weather prediction capabilities. I Gede realized that fishing points can be predicted through satellite imagery obtained from fish characteristic data.
This Android-based application for determining fish catch areas has several excellent features, including: potential fishing areas, best fishing times, safe fishing routes, hourly weather forecast information. Fish Go is also equipped with the ability to compare the experience of fisherman catching fish or condition in the field by utilizing algorithm patterns so that they can provide certainty and accuracy of information.

Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan promotes Rendang Minang at festival

The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Bandar Seri Begawan promoted the typical culinary of Minang, namely Rendang at the Rendang Minang Festival last Monday (20/12). The festival was aimed at promoting Indonesian culture and tourism; one of them was by introducing Rendang with a unique presentation and authentic taste. The festival was attended by 30 participants from various backgrounds, such as housewives, housekeepers of restaurant owners and professional chefs.
Indonesian Ambassador to Bandar Seri Begawan, Sujatmiko explained that the Rendang cooking competition was judged by the juries based on 3 aspects: the authenticity of taste, presentation appearance, and knowledge of Minang Rendang. He also hopes the event could encourage Indonesian citizens in Brunei to know more about one of the Indonesian prideful foods. The festival also promoted Indonesian tourism destinations through photo contests of traveling experiences in Indonesia. Then, the participants uploaded photos of their trips before the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia on their respective social media, while narrating their experiences.

Thirty-two units of electric motorbikes made by Indonesia Gesits arrived in Thies City, Senegal last Friday (17/12) in the form of completely knocked down (CKD). Indonesian Ambassador in Dakar, Dindin Wahyudin opened the container door to officially mark the arrival of the 32 units of Gesits electric motorbikes in Senegal. This inaugural export of PT WIKA Industri Manufaktur (WIMA) completed the delivery of 6 units of Completely Built Up -CBU of Gesits motorbikes which first arrived in May 2021.
The welcoming ceremony was attended by Makhtar Ndiaye, Director of Ndiaye Transport, Samba Coumba Samb, Chairperson of the Senegal Moto Taxi Association, two technicians from PT WIMA, Indonesian Embassy staff, Ndiaye Transport staff and local media. While in Thies City, both technicians then carried out assembling Gesits motors and providing training in electrical and mechanical skills for the local technicians.
In his remarks, Ambassador Dindin Wahyudin said that the first export of Gesits in Senegal is a strong initiative from all relevant stakeholders to present environmentally-friendly, efficient and modern products. The Indonesian Embassy in Dakar is actively promoting Gesits, not only in Senegal, but also in other West African countries.
Furthermore, Ambassador Dindin Wahyudin also stated that the commitment to use environmentally-friendly technology in daily life is a necessity. To respond to these challenges, Gesits has been present in Senegal and will be followed in a number of other West African countries.
Gesits promotions were also carried out at the Indonesian booth during the FIDAK international trade fair which took place from 6 to 20 December 2021 and at the Business Forum on 9 December 2021. At the two events in question, the enthusiasm and interest of the people of Senegal and West Africa tended to be positive. This was indicated by plans to purchase at least 15 units of Gesits motorbikes. This export and promotion activity are a concrete manifestation of the implementation of economic diplomacy in a bid to support the Go-Global State-Owned Enterprises program.

Technology Institute of Surabaya wins THE DataPoints Social Impact Award 2021

After Times Higher Education (THE) released a nomination for THE DataPoints Social Impact Award category in August 2021, finally THE announced the winner for the category virtually on Tuesday (14/12). Sepuluh Nopember Technology Institute of Surabaya (ITS) as the only nominator from Indonesia was declared as the winner of THE Awards Asia 2021 for category THE DataPoints Social Impact Award. The Award was awarded to ITS which transparently gave the most complete public evidencein the group of THE Impact Rankings SDGs which is related to social problems, such as health, education and poverty.
According to senior manager of World Class University ITS Affairs, Rulli Pratiwi Setiawan, at THE DataPoints Social Impact Award category, there were some prestigious overseas universities which became nominees, such as Hanyang University from Korea, Hiroshima University from Japan, Mahidol University from Thailand, and Universiti Sains Malaysia from Malaysia. Totally, there were 9 universities to be nominees in this category, including Sepuluh Nopember Technology Institute of Surabya (ITS) and ITS succeeded to be the winner. Lecturer of Department of Urban and Regional Planning said ITS' success as the winner because ITS is valued as one of universities in the global level which stands out in supporting SDGs, with an impressive transparency score. It shows that ITS is not only committed to SDGs but also showing real support to the public.
THE DataPoints Social Impact Award is an annual agenda of the British High Educational Calendar. While in Asia, 2021 became the third event of THE Awards Asia. THE Awards Asia 2021 has some categories, namely Excellence and Innovation in the Arts, International Strategy of the Year, Outstanding Support for Students, Student Recruitment Campaign of the Year, Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year, Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year, Workplace of the Year, Leadership and Management Team of the Year, THE DataPoints Improved Performance Award, and THE DataPoints Social Impact Award.

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Tokyo welcomed the winning of three Indonesian artists of video mapping at the 2021 Tokyo Light Festival. In its information received in Jakarta on Friday (17/12), the reported that the victory of the three Indonesian artists was announced at the Meiji Jingu Gaien in Tokyo. They are Fadjar Kurnia, Rafico Lingga Adiyoga and Muhammad Fahry Aziz who are members of The Fox, The Folks studio from Bandung, West Java. Besides being the first winner, they also won the audience award category.
Indonesian Ambassador to Japan, Heri Akhmadi happily welcomed the victory of the three young Indonesian digital artists. He further explained that their spectacular works and winning the competition have brought a positive image of Indonesia. Moreover, Ambassador Heri hopes that the victory will also increase the collaboration between Indonesian and Japanese artists of both countries.
Meanwhile, one of the artists, Fadjar Kurnia, told the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo that he expressed his gratitude for the winning of his artwork to become a winner at the international event. At the same time, Fadjar, Rafiko Lingga and Muhammad Fahry Aziz also conveyed feelings of pleasure and pride for the victory of The Fox. The Folks Indonesia team hopes that the victory would be able to inspire young Indonesians. Tokyo Light Festival is a projection mapping art competition which combines the arrangement of light and sound in a unique work of art that is strictly judged by an international panel of experts.

To Strengthen Diplomacy, Indonesian Embassy in Canberra Plays an Indonesian Movie

The embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Canberra played an Indonesian movie on Friday (17/12) to strengthen diplomacy and promote Indonesian language and culture. The movie was entitled "Terbang: Menembus Langit". It was produced in 2018 and directed by Fajar Nugros and played by Laura Basuki, Dion Wiyoko and Baim Wong. In a written statement, Educational and Cultural Attaché Mukhamad Najib said that the screening of the movie was aimed at introducing the diverse life of Indonesia to the Australian community and the world. The film tells the story of the spirit of young people achieving the dream. According to Najib, it is also very appropriate for young Australians to watch.
The Indonesian embassy in Canberra invited students and teachers in Canberra to watch the film together before entering holidays. One-hour and 40-minute movie screening was attended by students and teachers, Australians, diplomats of neighboring countries and Indonesian diasporas who stay in Canberra.
Coordinator of Social and Cultural Information Function of the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, Ghofar Ismail said that the screening can become a means to closely improve relationship between Indonesia and Australia. According to Ghofar, the movie is a cultural product which reflects society’s life of a country. Through the Indonesian movie, Australians are hoped to be able to learn about the variety of life in Indonesia. Therefore, people of both countries can get closer because Indonesian and Australians can understand culture mutually. In addition to watching the movie together, the invitees were also served Indonesian food and soft drinks.

Gamelan Officially Becomes an Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO

The Indonesian traditional musical instrument, Gamelan has been officially designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. This decision has just been adopted at UNESCO's 16th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Paris, France on 15 December 2021. Previously, Indonesian cultures that had been included in the list were Wayang, keris, batik, batik education and training, and Angklung. Other Indonesian cultures are the Saman dance, Noken, three traditional dance genres in Bali, the art of Phinisi shipbuilding, the tradition of Pencak Silat, and Pantun.
The news was announced by President Joko Widodo through social media accounts, Wednesday (15/12). He said that Gamelan has long been a part of the daily life of the Indonesian people of various regions in Indonesia. Gamelan also inspires and influences world music. Therefore, President Joko Widodo remarked that he was proud of the determination of Gamelan as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. He also stated that Indonesia would always preserve Gamelan. Launching an official statement from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, it is known that Indonesia has submitted its nomination since 2019.
Previously, the Indonesian government registered Gamelan to be included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2020. Gamelan competed with a number of nominations from other countries. Gamelan is the Indonesian traditional musical instrument consisting of saron, bonang, gong, drum, gangsa, fiddle, slenthem, peking and flute. Playing Gamelan must also be done together in order to produce a beautiful musical rhythm. Gamelan has begun to develop in Java and Bali since the Hindu-Buddhist era. This musical instrument is used as an accompaniment to dances, puppets or songs.
