President Joko Widodo, after performing Umrah (minor hajj), undertook a pilgrimage to the tomb of Prophet Muhammad and carried out a sunnah (optional) prayer in Raudhah (a special place), at Nabawi Mosque, Medina.
"Upon his arrival at the mosque, the President, Mrs. Iriana, and their two sons, Gibran Rakabuming Raka and Kaesang Pangarep, and the group carried out sunnah prayers at Raudhah," according to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat Deputy Protocol, Press and Media, Bey Machmudin, received by Antara in Jakarta on Monday.
Raudhah is located between the house of Prophet Muhammad and the mihrab or pulpit at the Prophet's Mosque.
While at the Nabawi Mosque, in addition to the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad, the President and Mrs. Iriana also undertook a pilgrimage to the tomb of Umar bin Khattab, and Abu Bakr Ash-Siddiq.
After the pilgrimage, at 11:00 local time, the President and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo and the group headed to Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport, Medina, to return to the country.
A number of officials who accompanied the President at the Nabawi Mosque were Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Chief of the Presidential Staff Moeldoko, and Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Agus Maftuh Abegebriel. (ant)
