Welcome back to “Mari Berbahasa Indonesia” or Let’s Speak Bahasa Indonesia, which introduces Indonesian vocabulary and guides you to speak in Indonesian language. Mari Berbahasa Indonesia or Let’s Speak Bahasa Indonesia is a collaboration between Voice of Indonesia and the Language Development Agency of the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research & Technology. Today’s topic is Di Baliwhich means “In Bali.”

Here is a conversation about “Kalau Tidak Dilindungiwhich means “If left unprotected”. Chris, a vlogger from Australia, was talking to a staff member at a sea turtle conservatory. The staff told Chris about the impact if the sea turtles are left unprotected.

In the expression, there is the conditional conjunction ”kalau” which means “if”, it connects the clause ”penyu-penyu tidak dikonservasi” which means “the sea turtles are not conserved” and the clause ”kehidupan terumbu karang di sini akan tergangguwhich means “the life of coral reefs will be disturbed”.

Nirup Island is located in the southwest of Batam Island. Part of its coastal area is covered with dense mangrove forests. On the other side, trees typical of tropical forests grow thickly, which is a habitat for wildlife, such as monkeys, monitor lizards and seabirds.

Nirup Island also has a fairly long coastline. The island, which also has a natural stretch of sand, makes it a great place to hold various beach sports activities, such as beach volleyball and beach soccer.

With the topography of the island, if you visit this island, you can put up a tent and spend the night here. If you want to do snorkeling, Nirup Island can also be a favorite place. Coral reefs thrive here, as well as marine habitats such as various types of fish and other marine life.

Nirup Island is actually located in bay-like waters, in its northern part adjacent to Pucan Island. Because the island is flanked by a cluster of islands, the waves and wind that hit the island are relatively calm, so it is not dangerous if you want to swim or do other activities. From the west of Nirup island, you can also freely see Pemping island, which is inhabited by several fish families

To go to Nirup Island, from Batam city you have to go to the ferry port in Sekupang. From there you have to take a boat to Belakangpadang District. From Balakangpadang, continue your journey by renting a boat to Nirup island. The boat rental price depends on your agreement with the boatman.

The journey from Balakangpadang to Nirup takes about 20 minutes. Before going to Nirup Island, make sure you bring your own food, as there are no restaurants on the island. If you want to stay overnight, there are no hotels on the island. You can set up a tent on the beach. Also make sure you have brought your complete camping equipment.

After being absent last year, the annual Dieng Culture Festival will be held again, from 23-25 August 2024. Entitled "The Journey", it will be held in the Dieng Kulon Tourism Village, Banjarnegara, Central Java. This activity has been awaited by local and foreign tourists, because it combines natural beauty with the unique culture of Dieng. The 2024 Dieng Culture Festival series of events is filled with art performances, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises exhibitions, Dieng Lestari actions, dreadlock hair shaving rituals, cultural carnivals, and lantern flying.

As in previous years, for two consecutive days, top and local singers and musicians are ready to enliven the Jazz Stage on the Clouds at this year's Dieng Culture Festival. There will be Andien, Marcell Siahaan, Budi Doremi, Denny Caknan, and Stars & Rabbit who are ready to rock the 2024 Dieng Culture Festival.

The ritual of shaving dreadlocks [stiff, hard and lumpy hair] for Dieng children is the most anticipated event. The dreadlocks that Dieng residents have are not artificial or intentional, but grow naturally. Usually this hair grows during childhood and can only be cut after the child ask for it. The dreadlock hair cutting then is held in a grand traditional ritual. It can be held individually or collectively. Due to the expenses the ritual is mostly conducted collectively by several children with dreadlock hair. For the people of the Dieng Plateau, the number of children with dreadlocks is correlated with community welfare.

This hair cutting procession takes place with a prayer ritual led by the elders. The dreadlocked children will go in a procession around Dieng. There are several spots that are the destination for prayer rituals, namely Bima Temple, Dwarawati Temple, Sendang Maerokoco, Arjuna Temple Complex, Gatotkaca Temple, Sikidang Crater, Balaikambang Lake, Color Lake, and Pepek River.
