The Indonesian Embassy in Beirut has acknowledged its continued support for trade cooperation improvement between Indonesia and Lebanon. Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon Hajriyanto Y Thohari gave the Primaduta Award to Lebanese businessman and importer, George R Fattouh. The award was given for his service in helping market Indonesian products in Paris from the Middle East. The award was given at a ceremony at the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut, Thursday (11/1)  Fatough, is the owner of George R. Fattouh S.A.L, a business that has been importing Indonesian products since the 1980s. It has a range of products, including: palm oil and its derivatives, oil and fats (including cocoa butter substitute, fat spread, hydrogenated palm kernel oil, and lauric confectionery fats), cardboard, stationary, and school equipment. Some Indonesian products are now even available at famous retail networks, such as Spinney’s and Carrefour. In 2022, the value imported by George R. Fattough S.A.L of Indonesian products, was 981.3 million USD. This was a 149.5 million USD increase when compared to 2021. Fattouh said Indonesian products are known for their quality and are in high demand in Lebanese markets. However, he said, the challenge now is increasing freight costs due to security challenges in the region.

Listeners, a number of delicious dishes were served to the guests of Dhaup Ageng Pura Pakualaman Yogyakarta, at the wedding reception of the youngest son of K.G.P.A.A. Paku Alam X, namely B.P.H. Kusumo Kuntonugroho with Laily Annisa Kusumastuti which was held on January 10, 2024.Head of the Customs and Accommodation Division, Dhaup Ageng Pura Pakualaman, KRT Radyo Wisroyo said that the menu served to guests was quite varied. These menus are typical menus prepared by Pakualaman Pura, Indonesian menus and western food menus were also available. All invited guests including VIP and VVIP guests got the same menu. The first menu served to welcome guests, namely two types of welcome drink, namely lime lemongrass and ginger drink with lime. The welcome drink was given when guests sat down and watched the Bedhaya Sidamukti and Bedhaya Kakung Indrawidagda dance performances. Next, they gotsnacks for appetizer such as croquettes and other light snacks. There is a snack that is considered quite special and rare called Garulina. Garulina was the opening snack at the Pahargyan Dhaup Ageng Pakualaman lunch on the first day. Garulina has been around since the era before Indonesian independence. Garulina is actually not a typical Central Javanese food. It looks like the Lapis Legit layered cake, but there is something different, because there is a special layer like vla which is made from fresh milk, eggs and sugar. To get this sweet snack, Pakulaman Temple has to place a special order from the third generation of makers who have been pioneering since the 1950s. In Jogja, Garulina is very difficult to find and is considered rare because it is not sold every day.

Indonesia prepares to hold a consultation meeting in a bid to discuss Indonesia's mineral and coal policy with the European Union.  The preparation of the consultation meeting was discussed in a consolidation meeting between Indonesian Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and related ministries / institutions and stakeholders in the mining sector on Tuesday (7/1) at the Ministry of Trade Office, Jakarta. The consultation meeting between Indonesia and the European Union is scheduled to take place on 30th January 2020 at the office of the International Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland. Previously, Indonesia had agreed to a request for consultation by the European Union within the framework of the WTO to discuss Indonesia's mineral and coal policies on 29 November 2019.

Tension  between the United States and Iran has escalated.  The enmity has escalated after the death of Iran's supreme commander Qassem Soleimani in the US air strikes ordered by President Donald Trump.  In response to the conflict, Indonesian  Ministry of foreign affair acting Spokesman /  Teuku Faizasyah, in Jakarta on Monday, 1/6 approved that his side has issued  alertness appeal for Indonesian citizens living in Iran and Iraq.  Regarding with  developments in the US and Iran relations, both Indonesian embassies in Iraq and  Iran have issued an appeal to Indonesian citizens to raise alertness.

President Joko Widodo is scheduled to hold his first official working visit in 2020 to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), with a focus on increasing cooperation in the economic-energy sector that will bring an investment agreement worth 18.8 billion US dollars. Indonesian Foreign Minister  / Retno Marsudi explained  on Tuesday  that the President's major objective to Abu Dhabi is a bilateral meeting with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Abu Dhabi Vice-President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on 11-13 January 2020. The focus of the official working visit will be on investment cooperation in the field of  oil and gas and mineral.

The first information is from Africa where it is celebrating 2020 with the Optimism of Increasing Economic Relations between Indonesia and South Africa.

The situation in South Africa is very challenging for Indonesia to be able to penetrate wider markets and bring diverse homeland productions to Africa.In 2019, some positive indications had been obtained by Indonesia, ranging from the commitment of several homeland companies to send representatives in South Africa until new investment plans for South African companies to Indonesia. Some agreements, such as the Defense Cooperation Agreement and MoU in the Fisheries Sector, have reached the final process.It is expected that 2020 will bring encouraging developments. That was the statement of the Indonesian Ambassador in Pretoria, Salman Al Farisi, opening 2020.Since 2015, trade trends between Indonesia and South Africa show fluctuating graphs. The Indonesian Ambassador was not overly concerned about the 2018 Indonesia-South Africa trade balance which showed a surplus for the South African side. Increased purchases of capital goods from South Africa show productive activities in Indonesia, mainly related to the need for intensive infrastructure development in recent years.

 

The second information is from Iran.Efforts to Encourage Increased Value of Trade between Indonesia and Iran.

Indonesian Ambassador to Iran, Octavino Alimudin attended the Indonesian Trade Promotion Forum held by Iranian Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) at the International Permanent Fairground, Tehran (Dec 31). On the occasion Ambassador Octavino delivered a presentation on the development of trade relations between the two countries; the value of trade between Indonesia and Iran was recorded higher than the value of Iran's trade with several other countries in Southeast Asia.During January-September 2019, the trade value of the two countries was recorded at US$106.4 million dollars, the surplus for Indonesia was worth US$85.6 million dollars while Iran's imports into Indonesia reached US$18.9 million dollars. The Ambassador further explained a number of prospective commodities from Iran, including LPG, dates, pistachios, medicines, medical devices, and steel. Meanwhile, prospective commodities from Indonesia include coffee, tea, textiles, garments, medicines and paper. Indonesia is a large market with 260 million people and a hub for countries in the Southeast Asian region.

 

The last information is from Singapore. Indonesian Foreign Minister and Singapore Foreign Minister Discuss Plans for Singapore President's Visit to Indonesia.

At the end of 2019, Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi, held a bilateral meeting with Singaporean Foreign Minister, Vivian Balakrishnan in Singapore (Dec 31). Minister Retno Marsudi said that she discussed a number of plans to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in 2020, including the visit of Singaporean President, Halimah Yacob to Indonesia in February 2020. In addition, she also discussed the importance of continuing to reaffirm ASEAN's centrality in the region. Besides discussing bilateral issues, both Ministers discussed various ASEAN issues. They agreed that ASEAN must continue to play a central role in the region. Some of the issues discussed include Indo-Pacific cooperation, women's empowerment in the context of women, peace and security, ASEAN's role in the Rakhine State issue and the dynamics of the current regional situation.

At least, 500 Indonesian citizens flocked Wisma Duta of the Embassy of Republic of Indonesia in Beijing, China to celebrate New Year's Eve. Most of them who are students stayed at the Indonesian Embassy on Tuesday (31/12) at 19.00 local time until Wednesday morning. Before entering 2020, Indonesian Ambassador to China, Djauhari Oratmangun and Trade Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy, Marina Novira read poetry to release 2019. The celebration of New Year's Eve was the second time that was held at the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing. The first celebration was held when welcoming 2019.


Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Wan Azizah Ismail expressed his sorrow over the flood disaster in Jakarta and its surroundings. The Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister's remarks were conveyed through his Twitter account in Kuala Lumpur, Thursday night (2/1). He hopes that everything will recover. On that occasion, Wan Azizah also linked the BBC London Section of Indonesia news under the title Jakarta Flood and surrounding areas: Areas on the riverbanks immediately emptied, floods could come suddenly. So far, Wan Azizah Ismail has always given a speech every time a disaster occurs in Indonesia, including during West Nusa Tenggara disaster some time ago. Floods in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi also received the attention of Malaysian media, such as Astrowani, Sinar Harian, and MalaysiaKini.


The Association of Indonesian Film Company decided to send the films 'Kucumbu
Tubuh Indahku’ dan ‘Ambu’ as Indonesia's representatives in the 59th Asia Pacific Film Festival which will be held in Macau, 7 to 9 January. According to Secretary General of the Indonesian Film Company Association, Zairin Zain through official information received by Antara on Thursday (2/1), the two films have been chosen through careful consideration. Both are considered to closely represent the national film world. He also mentioned that both films, Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku by Garin Nugroho, winner of the 2019 Indonesian Film Festival, and Ambu by Farid Dermawan, have different creative arts approach. Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku is considered to show not only an aesthetic image, but also one sub-culture of the complexity of sexuality with a symbolic approach. While Ambu film is a film that raises the issue of acculturation of Badui tribe, one of the strictest groups interacting with outside cultures. In addition to introducing Indonesian culture, the film is also considered to have an interesting story packed with charming cinematography. Indonesia's participation in the Asia Pacific Film Festival is inseparable from the history of the Indonesian Film Company Association as one of the founders and members of the Federation of Motion Pictures Producers in Asia Pacific, which was founded in 1953. A year later, in 1954, the Federation of Motion Pictures Producers in Asia Pacific started organizing the Asia Pacific Film Festival in Tokyo, Japan and this is held annually in turn by 22 member countries. Indonesia has won several honorable titles in this festival.

Governments of Indonesia and China may argue about the sea boundary of Natuna Islands, Riau Islands. But, cultural relations of the two countries are still harmonious. Seemingly, the event of Bonjour Century Star (BCS) was held in Bali for the first time. BCS is a talent search school in China. The BCS with its Chinese talented children performed in Kuta, Bali on Thursday (2/1). By collaborating with Agency of Indonesia-China Economic, Social and Cultural Cooperation of Bali Nusra, the winner of the talent search competition was given a chance to perform in BCS China-Indonesia Culture and Art Exchange Festival Awards Ceremony. Interestingly, the event collaborated with local young artists. The collaboration was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and China in economic, social and cultural aspects.  

Indonesia is discussing with Roscosmos, Russian Space Company in a bid to send the first astronaut to the space. This was stated by Director General of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin through an interview with Rossiya 24 Television. Russia has begun to negotiate with countries, such as Turkey, Indonesia, and Hungary, because those countries want to launch their own cosmonauts. The countries want to cooperate with Roscosmos.  Previous report indicated that Russia could launch astronauts of Turkey and Hungary to the space.

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono said that 3 countries as city consultants: the United States of America, China and Japan offer assistance to design new capital of Indonesia. The offer is by prioritizing the contest design. After meeting with the winner of the contest, Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said in Jakarta on Friday (3/1) said that not all consultants will be received by the government. He also said that the Indonesian government will not provide something in return to the countries that assist Indonesia. Meanwhile, Minister Basuki ensured that the location of the new capital is in Sepaku district, Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan, which is free from disasters such as floods and forest fires.

Two Indonesian warships (KRI Usman Harun-359 and KRI Sultan Iskandar Muda-367 in  the Task Force of  Port Visit Indonesia Maritime Envoy -19B arrived in the Port of Dili, East Timor on Wednesday (11/12). In a release received by Antara News Agency on Thursday (12/12), the arrival of the two warships was welcomed by Indonesian Ambassador to East Timor, Sahat Sitorus. He explained that the presence of the Task Force would give positive results for the maritime defense of the two countries.

European Union Ambassador to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, Vincent Piket explained that  there was no ban on the import of crude palm oil from Indonesia for EU member countries. Ambassador Vincent Piket at an event in Jakarta on Thursday (12/12) conveyed that the export of crude palm oil from Indonesia is very constant.  He said the European Union has the freest market for exports of Indonesian crude palm oil. The European Union noted, crude palm oil import over the last five years has been relatively stable with an average of 3.6 million tons or 2.3 billion euros per year.

Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Hong Kong won the predicate of Corruption-Free Area from the Ministry of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform.  Indonesian Consul General to Hong Kong, Ricky Suhendar told Antara on Thursday (12/12) that it was the second award won by the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong where previously, it won the same award in 2018. He further said  the award received in Jakarta on Tuesday ( 10/12) was based on the assessment of the Indonesian Consulate General of Hong Kong that has carried out various public service innovations and showed  anti-corruption commitment in his working environment.

Indonesia and Japan keep establishing cooperation to develop automotive industry, including preparation on electrification era or battery-based vehicles. The strategic step is implemented through cooperation between Indonesian Industry Ministry and Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. This was stated by Director General of Metal Industry, Machine, Transportation and Electronic Tool at the Industry Ministry, Harjanto in a press release on Sunday (15/12). The cooperation was discussed in the event of the 2nd Indonesia – Japan Automotive Dialogue in Bali recently. Knowledge and experience on standardization and technical regulation which is implemented in both countries also became interesting discussion, including utilization of renewable energy (biofuel). The two countries also discussed development of investment and incentive for industrial development of electric vehicles. Moreover, Indonesia-Japan have been long time to be strategic partners in establishing cooperation in economy.

Indonesian and Malaysian colleges agreed to collaborate in research in the field of neuroscience which focuses on nerve system. Minister of Technology Research / Head of National Research and Innovation Agency, Bambang Brodjonegoro hopes that the collaboration can focus on prevention as well as handling nerve disease. He expressed the statement at Indonesian Medical Education and Research Institute, Medical Faculty, University of Indonesia on Friday (13/12). Bambang also stated that the cooperation between the two countries becomes a main focus of the ministry for the next 5 years.

Indonesia and South Korea strengthen cooperation in manufacture sector, especially being ready to implement industry 4.0. This was pointed out through synergy between Indonesian Ministry of Industry and South Korean National Research Council/NRC) in a meeting of the 1st Sub-Joint Committee Meeting in Kuta, Bali Friday (13/12). Director General of Metal Industry, Machine, Transportation and Electronic Tool at the Industry Ministry, Harjanto said that collaboration of the two sides is valid 5 years to increase ability in 5 sectors of manufacture industry which becomes priority on the roadmap of Making Indonesia 4.0. The 5 sectors are food and beverage industry, textile and clothes industry, automotive industry, chemistry industry and electronic industry.

Enthusiastic applause given by  President of Peru/  Martin Vizcarra after listening to  Angklung traditional instrument performance held at  Indonesian Embassy in Lima at the event of  Mundo de Illusiones on 6-7 December 2019 at the Presidential Palace of Peru. The two-day event was an annual charity event organized by the First Lady of Peru, Marisol Diaz Cabello at Christmas celebrations for elementary and junior high school students from various regions in Peru. The activity was participated by several  Government agencies of Peru such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Culture and 19 Foreign Representatives in Peru including  Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Guatemala, Ecuador, European Union, India, Italy, Malaysia, Morocco, the Netherlands, Poland, and the United States.

The event of Batam International Cultural Carnival (BICC)  was attended by 6 representatives of countries, including Indonesia, which presented culture and distinctive clothes of each country along the road around Nongsa, Batam on Sunday (8/12).   Chairperson of BICC / Silvia Hilda explained this year the BICC was followed by Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, India and China. Silvia hopes that this year's national tourism calendar activities can become an annual agenda.

Indonesian  Embassy  (KBRI) Doha established the Indonesia Corner in one of the malls in Doha to promote Indonesia's trade, tourism and investment potential in Qatar. A written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Doha on Saturday (7/12) stated that Indonesia's promotion stand called "Indonesia Corner "is located at the main lobby of Landmark Mall, which is one of the big malls in the city of Doha, Qatar. Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar / Muhammad Basri Sidehabi opened the" Indonesia Corner "in front of businessmen of Qatar and Indonesian citizens who are in the country. After the success of the "Indonesia Expo 2019", the solo exhibition of Indonesian products was for the first time in Qatar, the Indonesian Embassy in Doha wants to keep the  momentum by continuously intensifying promotional efforts about Indonesia.

Bagimu Negeri Application

Ministry of Communication and Informatics invites digital star-up company in the field of Svara media that launched ‘Bagimu Negeri application’ to shift the existence of applications belonging to foreign country such as Spotify, Youtube and Facebook in Indonesia. According to CEO of Svara, Farid Fadhil Habibi, the application belongs to Indonesia, which later aggregates all positive contents in order to be able to compete globally. The application contains not only positive news but also educative entertainment. In the application, there is also live-chatting which can be conducted by users in making content. The contents are varied such as video, text and audio. For the audio content, there are music, podcast and streaming.

Ministry of Communication and Informatics has invited TVRI and RRI, and also the Ministry’s offices throughout Indonesia to fulfill contents in the application. In addition, the government has also cooperated with National Private Broadcasting Association of Indonesia to collaborate with 585 private radios which join in the Association. About music, Svara has cooperated with National Collective Management Agency to manage royalty, so that music which is played either local or international is not constrained legally. Like in general, music and video streaming application consist of 2 schemes of payment, namely free of charge and paying. Users of the application, who are free of charge, will hear advertisement. The advertisement is such as Public Service Announcement or government program advertisement. Today, the application is still free of charge but its music is playlist form, where its songs which are played, have had license. Playlist from radios in the some regions are regional songs and the music will become different between Bagimu Negeri application and other streaming applications.

 

Bagimu Negeri application has main 3 features: "Home," "Social," and "Library." "Home" becomes home for content providers; one of them is Cosmo radio. Besides live streaming, users can conduct live chatting with presenter. In addition, the application can also broadcast radio visually, as if radio has its own TV-line. In addition, users can also watch musical video of the song which is being played. The video feature is similar with YouTube application which is also able to make the users to switch from song to video by once wipe. Provider of the content can also provide various services, beginning from playlist, until podcast. Bagimu Negeri application can also detect location, so that the users can easily find local radio wherever they are. While,  "Library" feature stores favorite content of the users, namely "Social" feature which is made like social media where the users can share or upload positive content which is made by them. With social feature, hopefully people no longer open Facebook. On social feature, video, photograph, and text can be shared to WhatsApp, such as playlist, But, the users must befriend with each other. Like social media, the users can comment the content and also give "like," and share the content to other users with "+" button. To use Bagimu Negeri application, the users must download at Google Play Store.

TODAY IN HISTORY

Today in History with the event on December 7, 1959 - Aceh was decided to be a Special Region.

Aceh, which was originally named as  Aceh Darussalam, had ever been  subsequently called as the Special Region of Aceh and Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam in 2001-2009.  Then, it  becomes the province of Aceh nowadays. Aceh is the westernmost province in Indonesia.  It has its own regulated autonomy, compared with  other provinces in Indonesia, for historical reasons. On 7 December 1959, the Government of Indonesia formally designated Aceh as a special region. At that time, the special status was granted to Aceh in accordance with the Prime Minister's Decree No. 1 / Missi / 1959 whose contents include privileges, religion, worship and education.

Next the Event on December 7, 1995- Galileo's spacecraft arrived in Jupiter.

Galileo is an unmanned spacecraft sent by NASA to study Jupiter and  moon. It was named based on  astronomer and pioneer of  Renaissance, Galileo Galilei; the aircraft was launched on August 18, 1989 by the Atlantis space shuttle with the STS-34 mission. Galileo arrived in Jupiter on December 7, 1995, six years from its launch, with the help of the gravitational trajectories of the Venus and Earth.

Last event  on 7 December 2017 - International Civil Aviation Day.

International Civil Aviation Day refers to the decision of the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1996, over the initiative of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which stipulated every 7 December as the day of International Civil Aviation.  Previously, ICAO had established International Civil Aviation Day since 1994, in commemorating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the organization.

The first information is from Switzerland.

Indonesia participated in a charity bazaar organized by the United Nations Women's Guild (UNWG) at the United Nations Building, Geneva, Switzerland on 3 December. A written statement of the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia in Geneva on Thursday (5/12) said that the charity bazaar was joined by UN member countries. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to women and children in some countries in need. In this bazaar, there were two types of stands available: handicraft booths and traditional food stands from bazaar participating countries. At the food stand, Indonesia sold fried rice, fried noodles, chicken satay, and rendang. In addition, traditional Indonesian cakes were also sold such as sesame balls, bakwan, rissoles, pastels, rolled pancakes, and panada.

 

The next information is from Malaysia.

A total of 23 travel agents from Aceh and 50 travel agents from Kuala Lumpur held a business meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Wednesday, in "Business Matching Aceh - Malaysia Tourism 2019" to sell Aceh's potential in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor State. The activity was organized by the Aceh Culture and Tourism Office in collaboration with the Selangor Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel (MATTA). Head of Tourism and Institutional Business Development Division of the Aceh Culture and Tourism Office, Ismail invited the two travel agents to increase cooperation because they have previously established relations.

 

The last information is from Berlin.

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in cooperation with the Indonesian Coffee Council (Dekopi) has held a coffee workshop to improve the performance of Indonesian coffee exports to Germany recently. The event is expected to benefit Indonesian coffee entrepreneurs in determining strategies for entering the coffee market in Germany. Indonesian Ambassador in Berlin, as well as the Chair of the Declaration, Anton Apriantono through his written statement on Wednesday (4/12) said that exporting coffee to Europe, especially to Germany has greater complexity compared to other countries. Because consumers in Germany prioritize health. To be able to compete, Indonesian Arabica coffee needs to be further improved when cleaning and packing. In addition, consistency of the level of maturity and quality of seeds must be maintained.
