The Indonesian Embassy in Beirut has acknowledged its continued support for trade cooperation improvement between Indonesia and Lebanon. Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon Hajriyanto Y Thohari gave the Primaduta Award to Lebanese businessman and importer, George R Fattouh. The award was given for his service in helping market Indonesian products in Paris from the Middle East. The award was given at a ceremony at the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut, Thursday (11/1)  Fatough, is the owner of George R. Fattouh S.A.L, a business that has been importing Indonesian products since the 1980s. It has a range of products, including: palm oil and its derivatives, oil and fats (including cocoa butter substitute, fat spread, hydrogenated palm kernel oil, and lauric confectionery fats), cardboard, stationary, and school equipment. Some Indonesian products are now even available at famous retail networks, such as Spinney’s and Carrefour. In 2022, the value imported by George R. Fattough S.A.L of Indonesian products, was 981.3 million USD. This was a 149.5 million USD increase when compared to 2021. Fattouh said Indonesian products are known for their quality and are in high demand in Lebanese markets. However, he said, the challenge now is increasing freight costs due to security challenges in the region.

Listeners, a number of delicious dishes were served to the guests of Dhaup Ageng Pura Pakualaman Yogyakarta, at the wedding reception of the youngest son of K.G.P.A.A. Paku Alam X, namely B.P.H. Kusumo Kuntonugroho with Laily Annisa Kusumastuti which was held on January 10, 2024.Head of the Customs and Accommodation Division, Dhaup Ageng Pura Pakualaman, KRT Radyo Wisroyo said that the menu served to guests was quite varied. These menus are typical menus prepared by Pakualaman Pura, Indonesian menus and western food menus were also available. All invited guests including VIP and VVIP guests got the same menu. The first menu served to welcome guests, namely two types of welcome drink, namely lime lemongrass and ginger drink with lime. The welcome drink was given when guests sat down and watched the Bedhaya Sidamukti and Bedhaya Kakung Indrawidagda dance performances. Next, they gotsnacks for appetizer such as croquettes and other light snacks. There is a snack that is considered quite special and rare called Garulina. Garulina was the opening snack at the Pahargyan Dhaup Ageng Pakualaman lunch on the first day. Garulina has been around since the era before Indonesian independence. Garulina is actually not a typical Central Javanese food. It looks like the Lapis Legit layered cake, but there is something different, because there is a special layer like vla which is made from fresh milk, eggs and sugar. To get this sweet snack, Pakulaman Temple has to place a special order from the third generation of makers who have been pioneering since the 1950s. In Jogja, Garulina is very difficult to find and is considered rare because it is not sold every day.

Indonesian embassy in Amman held a “Pencak Silat Promotional Event” at Plaza of the Indonesian embassy’s Guest House in Amman, Jordan on Thursday (18/7) in a bid to promote Indonesian martial art, Pencak Silat in Jordan. Indonesian ambassador to Jordan, Andy Rachmianto in a press release on Friday (19/7) said that the Indonesian embassy in Amman is to seriously encourage Pencak Silat to be able to be more well-known in the Prophet’s country through innovative way. In the event, the Indonesian embassy conducted a program of Silat trainers starting from June – July, 2019. 5 new Pencak Silat trainers have been directly inaugurated by Teacher Board of Silat School, led by Head of Islamic Educational Foundation of Al-Azhar, Sobidirin HS.  The 5 trainers train Pencak Silat to Jordanian residents under Silat Board flag. Ambassador Andy Rachmianto hopes that Pencak Silat can be learnt and it attracts Jordanian people so that Indonesian culture is more well-known.  The Indonesian embassy in Amman  and Al-Azhar also signed an agreement to promote Pencak Silat as Indonesian art and cultural heritage and also inaugurated special branch of Silat Board in Jordan.

Ruben Fernhout who is a well-known musician and DJ of the Netherlands promoted modern batik of his work through promotional event which was held at Jakarta Hotel in Amsterdam, on July 20, 2019.  The promotional event was entitled "Batik Modern Masa Cinta". The one-day event was able to attract young community’s attention which came from various regions in the Netherlands. In additional to being held  at Jakarta Hotel which has Indonesian atmosphere, the event was also attended by famous musician, Escobar who also enlivened situation by singing archipelagic songs. Indonesian Deputy Ambassador to the Netherlands, Fikry Cassidy who also attended the event, said that Batik promotion this time was special because it was presented by unique and modern way. It was a beautiful combination between Indonesian and the Dutch traditional wealth. Meanwhile, Ruben said that his interest in Batik comes from his heart. Because, his mother is an Indonesian woman. So, his love to Indonesia cannot be stopped.

Indonesia embassy in the United States of America keeps running textile trade in the USA. Thus, the Indonesia embassy in Washington DC and Indonesian Textile Association held a  Roundtable Meeting on Building Synergy of Textile and Cotton Sectors at the embassy on July 19, 2019. The meeting was attended by representatives of United States Trade (USTR) Office, Department of Agriculture, Department of State, Department of Commerce, and the US representatives of Garment Association, Fashion, and Cotton. Indonesian Ambassador to the United States of America, Mahendra Siregar welcomed the meeting as real step to enhance two-way trade relations of Indonesia and the United States of America. Indonesia’s textile export and product to the USA in 2018 reached US$4.5 billion dollars and to be projected to keep growing amid dynamic of global trade. The ambassador also said that therefore, it needs a clear road map to reflex the benefits of the two countries.

Banjarmasin, Indonesia and Penang, Malaysia explore cooperation in the field of cultural heritage, event tourism, medication and industry. The signing of the cooperation was conducted by Mayor of Banjarmasin, Ibnu Sina and his counterpart from Penang, Mayor Dato’ Ar Yew Tung Seang, on the sidelines of Asia Pacific Cities Summit (APCS) & Mayors’ Forum in Queensland, Australia on July 8-10. On the occasion, both mayors shared information related with planned cooperation.

Singaporean President, Halimah Yacob handed over award to the mainstay caretaker of National Quartir of the Indonesian Scout Movement, Brata Tryana Hardjosubroto. President Halimah Yacob as Chief Scout of Singaporean Scout Association pinned the award "Distinguished Service Award". The innauguration of the award was conducted at the presidential Palace of Singapore on Wednesday (10/7). She handed over the award to 40 persons, including two foreigners namely Brata from Indonesia and Haji Yaacob bin Abdul Karim from Malaysia.

To follow up cooperation in the field of education, research and service to community, Rector of Riau Islamic University, Prof. Syafrinaldi along with four other lecturers became guest lecturers at University of Saint Anthony (USANT) of the Philippines on July 9-12, 2019. The event is a follow-up of Riau Islamic University and University of Saint Anthony in the field of education, research and service to community, knowledge and technology, as well as human resoreces. TheMemorandum of Understanding -MoU of the cooperation was signed by the two rectors in April 2019. In additional to giving a public lecture, President ofUniversity of Saint Anthony, Atty Santiago D. Ortega also asked Rector Syafrinaldi to plant tree at campus’ yard of the university as a symbol of strengthening of academic relations of both universities.

Jauhari Johan managed to make Indonesia famous after finishing first in the 2019 Tri Factor Asian Championship Series competition, the duathlon festival category in Belitung, Bangka Belitung Islands Province on Sunday, July 7, 2019.Jauhari Johan became the fastest with a record time of 2 hours 6 minutes 40 seconds followed by Wai Kit Lam in second place with a record time of 2 hours 7 minutes 25 seconds and Gen Lin Foo in the third position time of 2 hours 10 minutes 57 seconds. In the event, the participants must complete the challenge of running for 10 kilometers, cycling for 40 kilometers and running 5 kilometers.Meanwhile, Indonesian women's triathlon athlete, Eva Desiana also recorded brilliant results in the women's section. she managed to finish in second place in the individual standard category duathlon, with a record time of 2 hours 22 minutes. The 2019 Tri Factor Championship in Belitung was attended by hundreds of participants from various countries including the former Candidate for Vice President Sandiaga Solahudin Uno who also participated.

Indonesian male tennis player, Christopher Rungkat has the chance to compete at the 2020 Olympics in doubles but with a number of conditions to be met. General Chairman of the Executive Board of Indonesian Tennis Association (PB Pelti), Rildo Anwar told ANTARA in Jakarta on Tuesday night (9/7) that with 69 ATP rankings, Christopher Rungkat has the chance to pursue top 10 until June 2020. To be able to compete at the 2020 Olympics, Rildo as the 2018 mixed Asian Gold double medalist could only play in multiple categories.According to Rildo, in the singular number, the opportunity for Christopher is very small because the ranking is too far, namely 241, while the requirement to qualify for the single category Olympics is ranked 56th in the ATP or WTA. Indonesian Tibo Monabesa became the International Boxing Organization (IBO) flyweight champion after the three match judges awarded him a victory over Australian Omari Kimweri in a 12-round full match at OepoiKupang Sports Hall, East Nusa Tenggara on Sunday (7 / 7 nights.Of the three judges, all of them raised Tibo. Judge Jerrold Tomeldan gave a score of 114-113, judge Kriangsak Thonghong 116-111 and judge Cherdchai Srirat 118-110. The match led by Australian referee, Gary Ingraham and witnessed directly by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Imam Nahrawi accompanied by East Nusa Tenggara Governor, Viktor B. Indonesian male chess player, Catur Adi Sagita who dropped the standard number only finished third or a bronze medal in the 2019 Asian Juniors and Girls U-20 Chess Championship which was held at Hotel Lorin Surakarta, Central Java, on Monday (8/7) night. Catur Adi Sagita who was ranked 2240 was able to collect 6 points, while Vietnamese chess player, Nguyen AnhKhoi managed to collect 8 points and won the gold medal, and Indian chess player, Raghunan dan Kaumandur Sihari got 7 points or was in second place with silver.The  women's first junior champion of standard number section also won SerikbayAssel chess gold medal from Kazakhstan with 7 points, silver by Vantika Agrawal from India with 7 points, and bronze by AakankshaHagawane from India (6 1/2) points. The preservation of Limboto Lake becomes one of cooperation focuses on Gorontalo Geopark Development Research along with The Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN) Kyoto of Japan. Head of Regional Development Planning Agency, Gorontalo province, Budiyanto Sidiki said on Saturday (6/7) that there must be more intensive research on disaster potential due to the presence of a cesarean which passes through Gorontalo, especially Limboto Lake. The data gained from Research and Development of the Agency, Gorontalo province shows that Limboto Lake is one of geological resource assets belonging to Gorontalo province that has a major role as flooding prevention, place of water storage, source of irrigation, fishery, habitat of various fauna and flora, place of rowing sport and tourism object.

In August, all elementary students in Taiwan are going to be required to learn one of 7 Southeast  Asian languages, Indonesian language. According to Education Ministry of Taiwan, seven languages which can be chosen to be learnt include Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, Myanmarese, Cambodian, Malay and Tagalog languages. In addition, those students can learn Hokkien, Hakka language or native language in Taiwan. To learn those languages, the government of Taiwan has conducted training for 2,000 part-time teachers. Liu Qian Ping is one of members of Assessment Committee of Southeast Asian Languages’ Teaching Book in Taiwan to BBC China; he explained that by being required the elementary students to learn migrant communities’ languages, the students are able to understand multi-languages, multi-ethnics, and multi-cultural communities’  concept in Taiwan.

Tourism Polytechnic in Makassar, South Sulawesi invites Breda University of Applied Science in the Netherlands to cooperate in a bid to enhance the quality and Human Resources’ competency of Indonesian Tourism, especially lecturers and students. Acting Director of Tourism Polytechnic, Makassar, Muhammad Arifin said in Jakarta on Sunday (7/7) that his side has signed Memorandum of Understanding -MoU along with Elisabeth Minnemann, President of the Executive Board Breda University of Applied Science in Breda, the Netherlands on July 4. Arifin further said that his side agreed to conduct some points of cooperation, such as competency development and qualification of lecturers and students on magister of tourism destination level. Both constitutions also agreed to conduct training in strengthening the role of Tourism Polytechnic  as study center of marine tourism, hamlet tourism, village tourism and research as well as international journal publication.

Indonesian embassy in Norway held Indonesian Festival for the first time in Oslo, on June 29 and 30, 2019. Batik Betawi became one of motifs exhibited in the festival. As many as  15 outfits of clothes were displayed with motif of Salak Condet, burung sri, gigi balang, scissors and bamboo tree. Various designs of wedding party, Moslem and casual clothes were displayed to the visitors of festival and European people. In addition, in the batik exhibition, there was batik workshop which was tremendously welcomed by Oslo community.

To succeed New Policy to South Direction Program which emphasizes on people-to-people contact of Taiwanese and Indonesian people, Formosa circus of Taiwan (FOCA) conducted acrobatic circus show in Jakarta. The show was cooperation of cultural exchange with Indonesian Miniature Park. Representative of Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO), John Chen said that since the program has been initiated, the cooperation between Indonesia and Taiwan in the field of cultural exchange becomes very important. He also hoped that through the show and cooperation of the art, it is hoped to more increase relationship between Taiwanese and Indonesian people. India will become the next visit-state of FOCA.

Indonesian film entitled “Setan Jawa” directed by Garin Nugroho will be shown in Japan on July 2nd, 2019. Silent film which was released in 2016, has been shown in various countries.  In Japan, the film to be shown is under with collaboration of Indonesia– Japan musical and dance artists. The show is a series of programs of  “Asia in Resonance 2019” which was held by Japan Foundation Asia Center. In every show, “Setan Jawa” film  is shown along with different shows. In Tokyo, “Setan Jawa” is shown along with 3D concert designed by Yasuhiro Morinaga, voice designer from Japan. In addition, the collaboration is also supported by KOM_I (baca: komuai), vocalist band of “Wednesday Campanella” from Japan. From Indonesia, Gunawan Maryanto (actor) also acts as vocalist through poem and Javanese spell reading. The silent film is also supported by Indonesian dancers, Luluk Ari Prasetyo, Heru Purwanto, and Dorothea Quin who will respond and represent the film and also sound through dance’s movement. Traditional instrument artist from Bandung, Teguh Permana and Akbar Nendi, as well as Haidi Bing Slamet and Andori from Banyuwangi, also participate to enrich sound which accompanies the film.

Indonesian delegation from Makassar city Health Office explained about District Health Information System (DHIS) application which is applied by the local government of Makassar in Oslo University, Norway. Head of Health Office, Naisyah Tun Azikin through social network said in Makassar, on Sunday (23/6) that her party represented the city’s government of Makassar as well as delegation from Indonesia along with team from Health Ministry presented DHIS application in Norway. She also explained that DHIS is a platform of open source software for reporting, analysis and dissemination of data for all health programs which is developed by the Health Information System Program, Ministry of Health.

 Today in History, begin with June 25, 1938, the first Indonesian Language Congress is  held .

The Indonesian Language Congress was first held in Solo on 25 to 27 June 1938. Initially the Indonesian Language Congress was held to commemorate Youth Pledge Day which took place in 1928. It turned out that the event was not only commemorating the Youth Pledge but also discussing  Language development and Indonesian Literature as a whole.

Switch to June 25, 1950 the Korean war begins.

On June 25, 1950, North Korean forces took the South Korean soldiers and small US forces stationed in the country by surprise  and  quickly moved towards the capital city of Seoul. The United States responded by pushing for a resolution through the UN Security Council to call for military assistance to South Korea continues. With the issuance of UN Security Council resolution no.83, US President Harry S. Truman quickly sent the US  Army, Sea and Air Force to be involved in the Korean War as a "police action."

Ended with June 25, 2009, world musician Michael Jackson dies.

Michael Joseph Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana, USA, August 29, 1958. He died in Los Angeles, California, United States, June 25, 2009 due to  a heart problem at the age of 50. Michael Joseph Jackson   is well known as the King of Pop and popularized the Moonwalk dance movement that was his trademark. His  album, released in 1982, Thriller is the best-selling album in the world with sales exceeding 104 million copies worldwide.

He began his singing career at the age of five as a member of the Jackson family vocal group or commonly called The Jakcson Five before launching his first solo album “Got to be There” in 1971. He won various awards in his lifetime  including  13 Grammy Awards and “Thriller”  was recorded  as the best-selling album in the world by  Guinness Book of World Records. That was  today in history.

The first story for today’s Diplomatic Corner is from Seoul, South Korea.

Contemporary lurik weaving with theme “Cross Border" which designed by Lia Mustafa from Yogyakarta attracted the attention on ASEAN Week staged in Seoul, South Korea on June 14-16, 2019. Lia looked different and stole the attention when presented her works with other 10 designers from ASEAN member countries and also from South Korea. Lia, Mustafa, who is also senior manager of Indonesian Fashion Chamber (IFC), said that traditional material or motif with cultural identity which is very strong, can be changed to be outfit or cloth which is very modern and contemporary. Reog Singo Mudo Korea performance, Fashion Carnival worked by Alma Naibaho, and also various kinds of interactive events got prizes at Indonesian Booth.

Two singers from Indonesia, Vidi Aldiano and Vadi Akbar were involved in a collaboration musical project with Erwin Gutawa entitled "Tribute to S. Darsih Kissowo" in Vienna, Austria. In the collaboration work, Erwin Gutawa re-produced songs of keroncong singer, Darsih Kissowo in orchestra arrangement which was played in Vienna SynchronStage Orchestra with conductor Johannes Vogel. S.Darsih Kissowo was a well-known keroncong singer in her era. In this collaboration project voiceof Darsih Kissowo will be recorded again and combined with Vidi Aldiano and Vadi Akbar vocal.

A collaboration of three gamelan groups from Bali, Java and Sunda enliven the commemoration of the 70th Indonesia-England Diplomatic Relation in London, on Monday evening (17/6), which was presented in Indonesian art and cultural night performances. Balinese gamelan performance from Lila Cita group, Javanese gamelan by Southbank Gamelan Player and Sundanese gamelan by Sekar Enggal, and followed by ensemble performance of Kyai Fatahillah group, led by Iwan Gunawan, succeeded to amaze around 800 audiences who flocked Cadogan Hall, London, Monday evening (17/6). In addition, the Indonesian Embassy in London also cooperates with Indonesian and British artists to performvarious kinds of dances, giant shadow and doll puppet and also film show. Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister, Retno Marsudi and State’s Minister of UK to Asia and Pacific, Mark Field also attended as honorable guest in the event.

The theme, archipelago and Unity in Diversity colored the opening of Indonesian Days (ID) 2019 in Budapest, Hungary. Combination among Indonesian arts and cultures as well as clothes got attention from Hungarian citizens. Indonesian Ambassador to Hungary, A.H Dimas Wahab said that the theme is chosen to show Indonesia’s wealth and diversity in full by pressing Unity in Diversity of Indonesia.On the occasion, the annually promotion event was combined not only Hungarian people who came to the event, ambassadors of neighbor countries who attended the event, among other Malaysian and Thai ambassadors enjoyed various kinds of Indonesia typical foods and also shopped and watched Indonesian art and cultural performances.

Celebration of the 93rd birthday of the UK’s Queen, Elizabeth II in Jakarta becomes a farewell party of the UK’s ambassador to Indonesia, Moazzam Malik. Ambassador Malik who has officiated as representative of the UK’s government in Indonesia since 2014, ended his duty on June 21, 2019.In celebrating the 93rd Queen Elizabeth II birthday in Jakarta, on Wednesday evening (19/6), Ambassador Malik said goodbye and also underlined the achievement of Diplomatic Relation among Indonesia and the UK for 70 years which is also commemorated in 2019.During his term of office, Malik said that Indonesia and the UK have signed around 40 Memorandum of Understanding in various fields, beginning from economy, creative industry, education until environment.

Three Indonesian delegations who are joined Train Signaling Engineer Institution (Irse) will promote profession and also the development of Indonesia’s railway signal in England.One of the delegation, Ahmad Sugiana, expert of railway signal from Telkom University when met in Irse Sponsor Gathering in Jakarta, on Wednesday (19/6) said that currently, railway signal profession is not in demand yet, while railway project more grows.Another delegation, Yanto Yulianto, Head of Railway Department, Information of Telecommunication and Technology of PT MRT Jakarta, said that by explaining about signal development of MRT Jakarta, it is hoped the recruitmentof professionals either Indonesian or foreigner to contribute in railway signal in Indonesia could be done.It will also promote railway projects which are potential to be cooperated.

As many as 120 Malaysian students learn Malay poetry and culture in Tanjungpinang, Riau islands. A 3-day training program was conducted by Cultural Value Conservation Center and Local Culture and Tourism Office. Head of Culture and Tourism Office of Tanjungpinang, Surjadi, in Tanjungpinang, on Sunday (16/6) said that one of the poetries which is learnt, is gurindam 12, poetry on kindness in life attract the attention of the students. The first event which is held in Tanjungpinang, attract students’ attention since it is similar to the art and culture of Malaysia. The historical fact indicates Malay culture is inherited from Riau-Lingga-Pahang Kingdom on Penyengat Island. Therefore, those students are invited to visit Penyengat island which is rich on Malay history.

Garut regent, Rudy Gunawan stated that a number of typical handicraft products from Garut, West Java will get an opportunity to participate in Handicraft Product Exhibition in England which will give advantages for craftsmen as well as introducing Garut in England. Regent Rudy Gunawan when inauguration the new manager of Regional National Handicraft Council of Garut in Garut, on Monday (18/6) said that Indonesian Embassy in England invited Garut regency to participate in an exhibition which will be held in London on September 6-7, 2019by displaying Garut products. The regent hopes the prestigious exhibition in England is participated in by the mainstay craftsmen from Garut so that Garut products are more known abroad and attract foreign investors to Garut.
