Head of Data Center, Information, and Public Relations at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency-BNPB, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the number of dead victims due to the quake and tsunami in Palu, Donggala, Sigi, Parigi Moutong, Central Sulawesi reached 1,763 people. In a press conference held in Jakarta on Sunday (7/10), Sutopo explained that the number of victims keeps rising after the joint Search and Rescue Team (SAR) successfully evacuated 111 bodies buried by mud and ruins of buildings in a number of locations.

During yesterday's evacuation, the joint Search and Rescue Team coordinated by the National Search and Rescue Agency found 111 bodies. Based on the data 106 of them were found in Palu, and 5 of them were found in Sigi. If we look at the data of the victims found in Petobo, Balaroa, Biromaru, and based on the coordination meeting in the National Assistance Post on Saturday (6/10), the evacuation is targeted to finish on 11th of October 2018 in accordance to the applied emergency response period,” said Sutopo.

Although the disaster emergency response will end in the next few days, Sutopo ensured that the evacuation process would still continue. However, the personnel and equipment to be deployed in the evacuation post the emergency response period will be less than the amount before the end of the disaster emergency response. The decision was made due to the factor that the number of victims is still possible to rise as there are still many buried victims who have not yet been evacuated. Sutopo said as many as 1,519 dead victims were found in Donggala,   159 people in Donggala, 69 people in Sigi, 15 others in Parigi Moutong, and a victim was reported found dead in Pasangkayu. Meanwhile, 265 people are missing, 2,632 are injured, and as many as 152 people were buried under the ruins. Head of Data Center, Information, and Public Relations of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency-BNPB, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said that the medical treatment for the victims of quake and tsunami in Palu, Donggala, Sigi, and Parigi Moutong, Central Sulawesi ran well. He said as many as 146 members of teams along with 1,175 personnel consisting of general practitioners, specialists, nurses, and anesthesiologists have been deployed. In a press conference held in Jakarta, on Sunday (7/10), Sutopo said that the Indonesian Military has also sent floating hospital at the KRI (Ship of the Republic of Indonesia) dr. Soeharso at Pantoloan Port in Palu.

In total, there are 146 members of teams along with 1,175 personnel deployed to handle the medical treatment. They consist of 121 specialists, 278 general practitioners, 15 anesthesiologists, 527 nurses, and more. I got information that dr. Soeharso Floating Hospital has also been prepared to treat the victims, some also have been operated at the hospital located in a ship owned by the Indonesian Military,” said Sutopo.

Furthermore, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the medical treatment could be implemented in the form of static service namely providing health treatment directly in the location or mobile service in the location of the refugees. Sutopo also instructed those who want to help the victims not to give milk for infants as there is no enough supply of water in the refugee camp, since it can increase the risk of diarrhea for the infants. Diarrhea can cause dehydration and death. In addition, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency and UNICEF has prohibited giving milk to infants. (VOI/Rezha/Trans: Amanda/RHM)

Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi held a bilateral meeting at the 8th Joint Ministerial Consultations with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of New Zealand, Winston Peters in Jakarta on Friday  (05/10). Besides agreeing on comprehensive partnership between the two countries, the two foreign ministers also discussed Indo Pacific concept that has been earlier announced by Indonesia. Through a joint press conference, Minister Winston Peters  said that his side wants to cooperate to create a substantial concept.
 
“Today I also said on the issue of trade comprehensive partnership that we discussed the side issues, not only security, ongoing engagement, human connection, people connection, but also trade connection.  We also spent some time to talk about Indo Pacific and what it means to us and Indonesia and the people in the Pacific and how we to work together in the substance, not only just ideas,” said Winston Peters. 
 
Minister Winston Peters  further said that New Zealand explained its willingness to maintain dialogue and cooperation that has been done with ASEAN. New Zealand wants to learn the details how ASEAN looks at the concept of Indo-Pacific as a concept aimed at optimizing the existing  cooperation. Related to the Indo-Pacific concept, Indonesia has explained that the concept will make ASEAN play a central role or has centrality as a multilateral institution. (Rezha/Trans by AF/ AHM)

Arian Sadiqi, the Chief de Mission of the Afghanistan delegates for Asian Para Games on Thursday in Jakarta stated that Afghanistan's participation in the Asian Para Games was an achievement for Afghanistan. He said that considering the current conditions of war facing the Afghan people. Nevertheless, he stated that the Afghan athletes for the games tried to get the highest achievement at the Asian Para Games in Jakarta. Apart from the war conditions facing the Afghan people, Arian Sadiqi said that Afghan athletes had trained to compete at the Asian Para Games scheduled to he held on 6 to 13 October 2018.
 
 
"Yes, the fact that we are here and participating in a big game, and we are hoping that despite the war and obstacles we have, we try our best to be part of the international family and to move forward. Preparation is fine but obviously because we have lack of infrastructure, lack of training facilities, we don't have the capacity to really compete with international neighbors but we wish our best and God willing we will win something," Arian Sadiqi said.
 
 
The Afghan Athlete Delegation targets to get 5 or 6 gold medals at the Asian Para Games competition. Arian Sadiqi said the Afghan delegation consists of 17 officials and 24 athletes. The 2018 Asian Para Games will be attended by 2,831 athletes from 43 countries. They will compete in 18 sports. As the host, Indonesia sent around 300 athletes with targets to enter the top 10 with 16 or 17 gold medals.  (VOI/Andy/AHM)
