The Indonesian Embassy in Madrid,  Spain  again held  Indonesian Language classes for Foreign Speakers  (BIPA ) 2024 on  Tuesday (2/4). BIPA classes are held in a hybrid manner to facilitate 75 participants who come from some regions in Spain,  Chile, Ecuador and Peru,  including Indonesia. Indonesian Ambassador to Spain, Muhammad Najib stressed the importance of internationalizing the Indonesian language to strengthen relations between Indonesia and Spain in which not only to improve business and political relations,  but also to promote tourism and culture.  Ambassador Najib on the website of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday ( 2/4) mentioned that learning a language is like a door to enter a new culture or new world.


The BIPA class is   held from April 4th until June 28th, 2024 and participants are divided into 3 class levels, namely for Beginner,  Advanced I and Advanced II learners. Apart from teaching and learning activities,  the class  includes watching films and singing Indonesian songs together.  Ambassador Najib affirmed that as a cultural promotion, fun teaching and learning activity, it is hoped that it will help participants understand Indonesian more easily.  At the opening of the class, as additional motivation for the participants, the BIPA Team from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology also announced the agenda "Handai Indonesia Festival 2024. The festival which will take place in Bali is oriented to foreign citizens who can speak Indonesian. Since 20 November 2023, Indonesian has become one of the 10 official languages of the UNESCO General Conference. This international recognition further confirms the benefits of mastering Indonesian.

Indonesia will re-operate the Indonesian Embassy in Pyongyang which has been empty since July 2021. Recently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a special team to Pyongyang to make preparations.

The reopening of the Indonesian Embassy in Pyongyang is one of the themes discussed at the 59th anniversary of President Kim Il Sung's visit to Indonesia on Friday (5/4). Counselor for the North Korean Embassy, So Kwang-Yun, in his remarks at the commemoration, said that this year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which was marked by President Sukarno's visit to Pyongyang on November 1 to 4 1964. He also said that Indonesia and North Korea are preparing for the reopening of the Indonesian Embassy in Pyongyang. He also believes that relations between the two countries in the future will be even more substantial.

Counselor So Kwang Yun also invited all attendees to remember the efforts of the founding fathers of both countries to liberate nations in Asia and Africa from the grip of colonialism.

A similar thing was conveyed by the Director of East Asia at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Arifianto Sofiyanto. He said that the reopening of the Indonesian Embassy in Pyongyang reflects the good relations of both countries that were built by the founding fathers of Indonesia and North Korea. He also said that North Korea is one of Indonesia's old friends. The relations between the two countries should continue to be improved.

The commemoration, which was held at Griya Anggrek, Bogor Botanical Gardens, was also attended by the Chairman of the Indonesia-Korea Friendship Association, Teguh Santosa, and lecturer in International Relations, FISIP Unpad, Teuku Rezasyah.

This activity was also filled with a photo exhibition and screening of a documentary film on the visit of President Kim Il Sung and his son, Kim Jong Il to Indonesia.

Welcome back to “Mari Berbahasa Indonesia” or “Let’s Speak Bahasa Indonesia”, a segment which introduces you to Indonesian vocabulary and guides you to speak in the Indonesian language. “Let’s Speak Bahasa Indonesia” is a collaboration between Voice of Indonesia, the Overseas Service of Radio Republik Indonesia, and the Language Centre and Development Agency at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. Today’s topic is “Di Desa Budaya Suku Dayak” (2x) which means “In the Dayak Cultural Village”. 


Here is a conversation entitled "Wow" (2x) which means "Wow!" or "Awe!". This conversation takes place between Chris, an Australian vlogger, and a resident of Pampang Cultural Village, Samarinda City, East Kalimantan. Chris expresses amazement when he sees a Dayak woman with long ears.


Chris (P) : Wow, banyak sekali anting ibu itu! Sampai telinganya menjadi panjang.

Penduduk (W) : Konon, dalam masyarakat suku Dayak, wanita dengan telinga panjang itu cantik.

Chris (P) : Apakah anak muda di sini masih melakukan tradisi itu?

The Dayak tribe on the island of Borneo has a tradition known as telingaan aruu. The tradition involves lengthening the ears by using earrings as weights. In Dayak belief, a woman's beauty is not judged by her face, but by the length of her ears.
