VOInews, Kuala Lumpur: The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Thursday (9 January 2025) for a private visit, including a luncheon with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. President Prabowo was warmly welcomed at the Bunga Raya Complex of Kuala Lumpur International Airport by Malaysia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamad Hasan, Indonesia’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Indera Hermono, and Defence Attaché Brigadier General Winarno.

The visit’s primary focus was a bilateral meeting aimed at strengthening strategic ties between Indonesia and Malaysia. "The President is scheduled to meet the Malaysian Prime Minister. Both leaders will share a meal and exchange views on global affairs and the relations between our two nations," stated Yusuf Permana, Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media at the Presidential Secretariat, in a written statement.

This engagement follows an earlier interaction when Prime Minister Anwar travelled to Jakarta to extend his congratulations on President Prabowo’s inauguration in October of last year. The close rapport between the two leaders is anticipated to lay a robust foundation for enhancing the strategic partnership between these neighbouring nations. President Prabowo departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta at 7:00 AM Western Indonesian Time, accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

The relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia has long served as a cornerstone of stability and progress in Southeast Asia. This meeting is expected to further solidify collaboration across various sectors, including trade, education, and regional security. Both leaders are set to discuss tangible steps to realise their shared vision of advancing the well-being of their respective peoples.

This bilateral dialogue underscores the unwavering commitment of President Prabowo and Prime Minister Anwar to preserving and deepening a mutually beneficial partnership. It reflects their determination to address common challenges and seize opportunities for the collective prosperity of Indonesia and Malaysia.
