Indonesia to Provide Capacity Building Sscholarships for Afghans
Written by Ani HasanahThe Indonesian government is preparing scholarship for capacity building programs for the Afghans, as part of the country`s contribution in realizing peace in Afghanistan. Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said at the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) headquarter in Jakarta on Tuesday (6/3) said the scholarships will be provided specifically for mining and religious studies. She added that the government has agreed to provide scholarship in the mining field for Afghanistan. The government is cooperating with the MUI to provide 135 scholarships for religious studies. Indonesia has shown support to tackle the prolonged conflict in Afghanistan by building the Indonesia Islamic Center (IIC) in Kabul that offers the Assalam Mosque and other facilities, such as a clinic, library and lodge. Recently, Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla has conducted the groundbreaking ceremony of a health clinic at IIC, which will be granted to the Afghan government and can later be used for offering public health services. The Indonesian Ulema Council–MUI to be Neutral in the Ulema Trilateral Conference
Written by Ani HasanahChairman of the foreign affairs division of the Indonesian Ulema Council-MUI, Muhyiddin Junaidi, said that Trilateral Ulema Conference themed "The Role of Ulema in the World in Creating Peace", is a forum to convey ideas and views in the capacity of ulema in an effort to create peace. MUI is currently holding intensive coordination with Afghanistan and Pakistan, to decide the exact time of the conference to be held in Bogor, West Java shortly.
“We want to invite them and we will be neutral. We want to talk in accordance with our capacity as the Indonesian Ulema Council especially on issuing fatwa. Once the meeting ends, we will hold the next meeting, where we will invite many countries,” Muhyiddin Junaidi said.
Muhyiddin Junaidi moreover said that it is important for Indonesia not to offend Afghanistan, regarding that earlier the request to facilitate the peace process of Afghanistan was rejected by Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Meanwhile, the "Kabul Peace Process Conference" attended by representatives of 24 countries including Indonesia in the end of February in Kabul, resulted 7 points of agreements. The agreements are among others, the government of Afghanistan is ready to hold dialogue, to keep peace and give opportunity for Thaliban to enter in the political struggle not weapons. Indonesia eyes exporting passenger trains to Chicago, United States
Written byIndonesia has the potential to export passenger trains manufactured by a state-owned company to Chicago, the United States, a state envoy stated in a press release made available to ANTARA here on Wednesday.
"There is potential for Indonesia to sell passenger trains to the Chicago Transit Authority," Indonesian Consul General Rosmalawati Chalid noted after meeting with Carole Morey, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) chief planning officer, and Michael Connelly, the CTA vice president scheduling and service planning, on Mar 5.
The meeting was initiated by the Indonesian consul general in Chicago to facilitate Indonesian trains to foray into the US market.
The CTA is a transportation company that operates rapid transit system for Chicago and its nearby areas called "The Chicago L" that has elevated and underground railways.
At the meeting, the CTA highlighted its needs to provide thousands of new passenger trains in the next five years in order to expand its route to northern and southern Chicago, which have been developed as business and housing areas.
Besides this, the CTA is planning to modernize its train fleet that has been used for over three decades on an average.
"I hope the trains manufactured by PT INKA would penetrate the US market and be used for CTA`s modernization," Chalid noted.
PT INKA, an Indonesian state-owned train manufacturer, had exported thousands of passenger trains to Bangladesh.
The current passenger trains of CTA were produced by a Canadian company Bombardier, and the United States is widely known to be manufacturing its own trains.
However, Chalid noted that the Chinese CRRC Corp will offer competition to Indonesia, as it has already won the bidding to supply passenger trains valued at US$1.309 billion for CTA`s train modernization in 2016.
