VP Kalla to meet ulemas in Afghanistan

Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla has planned to visit Afghanistan to meet ulemas and community figures to share experiences on mediation of conflicts and post-conflict restoration.
"The Afghanistan High Peace Council (HPC) has invited me to visit Kabul on Feb 26. They have met me first to laud the visit of President Joko Widodo and the second being to deepen Indonesia`s efforts in resolving conflicts," Kalla stated at the Vice President`s Office in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Kalla will also deliver humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan, as both countries have the largest Muslim population.
Afghanistan has sought Indonesia`s assistance to restore peace.
Kalla said he was not worried about the security condition in Afghanistan.
"When you are planning to resolve conflicts, and it is preceded by fear, then you should not enter the area. However, for me, when I was solved the conflict in Poso, Ambon, and Aceh, we entered the regions with good intention and prayers. When we have good intention, God will help us," Kalla noted.
Kalla had received the Afghanistan HPC delegation at his office on Monday. (antaranews)

Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry Provides Legal Assistance for Indonesian Migrant Worker, Adelina in Malaysia

Indonesian Foreign Ministry through the Directorate of Protection of Citizens and Legal Entities and Indonesian Consulate General in Penang, Malaysia continues to provide legal assistance for Adelina, a migrant worker who was allegedly killed because of her employee’s torture in Malaysia. So far, the legal process, the fulfillment of rights, the family search of Adelina is still a priority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This was stated by Director of Protection of Citizens and Legal Entities of Indonesian Foreign Ministry, Lalu Muhamad Iqbal to the media in Jakarta on Monday (12.02.2018).
“…Well since the beginning, we have already provided legal assistance for her. So, the Consulate General has assigned it's staff to meet the law enforcer, forensic doctor, and see her body and escort the investigation. So, we have three priorities. First, we make sure that the legal process runs well; second, we fight for her rights and third, we have to find her family in Indonesia,” Lalu Muhamad Iqbal said.
Lalu Muhammad Iqbal added that so far, there have been two men in custody for the case and another one is still fugitive. He views that the heaviest sentence for them is capital punishment because the torture can be categorized as premeditated murder. Adelina who is 21 years old is a migrant worker from East Nusa Tenggara and she was found by the rescue team on Saturday February 10th in a dog cage in a weak condition. She died during the medical process in Bukit Mertajam Hospital on Sunday afternoon February 11th on 16.45 local time. (VOI/Rezha/Trans by NK)

Indonesian Embassy in Singapore Prepares e-Commerce to Market Indonesian Products in Singapore

The Indonesian Embassy in Singapore is trying to continuously improve the information technology (IT) system that has been used to market products from Indonesia in Singapore. Through the development of the system, buyers who are in Singapore can directly connect with electronic commerce sites (e-commerce) that sell products from Indonesia offered by the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore. This was stated by Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, I Gede Ngurah Swajaya to the media in Jakarta on Monday.
“…In regard to this, we are also trying to continuously develop again; we have reported earlier to the President, not just stop there, knowing the product, and who the exporters are. But later, in the application, they can get into the e-commerce platform.”
Ambassador Ngurah Swajaya further said that the development of information technology system conducted by the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore related to economic diplomacy is a follow-up development of the construction of a showroom or gallery of Indonesian products in the Indonesian Embassy building. Now through the showroom, the people of Singapore, especially importers can easily obtain information related to Indonesian products by scanning the barcodes in each product on display. Canadian Government Encourages Cooperation with Canadian Educational Institutions with Indonesia

Canadian government encourages existing educational institutions in the country to collaborate with other educational institutions in Indonesia, particularly vocational or technical training institutions. This was stated by Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste, Peter McArthur in his speech at the Canada Education Exhibition (EduCanada) on Sunday, February 11, 2018.
”… So we are increasing and encouraging Canadian institution to promote technical vocational training program to pursue more research collaboration with Indonesia’s institution, in line with the priority of the government of Indonesia in developing more vocational school," Peter MacArthur said.
In addition, Ambassador Peter McArtur said that his embassy has also encouraged Indonesian students to continue their studies in Canada. Moreover, Canada and Indonesia are in a forum of ASEAN education cooperation called Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED). This program is a student exchange program that specifically provides opportunities for students or members of ASEAN member countries to continue their studies or research at Canadian post-secondary institutions at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels.
