The year of 2018 is a commemorative year that marks 45th anniversary of friendship and cooperation between Japan and ASEAN. Taking this opportunity on 28 February in Jakarta, the Government of Japan through its Ambassador to ASEAN, Kazuo Sunaga officially appointed Melody Nurramdhani Laksani or Melody JKT 48 as the Japan-ASEAN Goodwill Ambassador on Food and Agriculture. In his remarks at the appointment, Melody said that he would share his knowledge and emphasize the importance of food and agriculture to the people of ASEAN as well as the close relations between Japan and ASEAN.

Melody said “…With this opportunity to be Goodwill Ambassador Japan-ASEAN on Food and Agriculture, I would like to share to ASEAN people what I learn and my experience when I participated in agricultural projects during my study. Along with that, I would like to convey message to ASEAN people about the importance of food and agriculture as well as bond with Japan and ASEAN.”

After the event, Melody who is also an alumnus of the Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University, Bandung, West Java said that she is proud to be appointed directly by the government of Japan to become the Goodwill Ambassador of Japan-ASEAN on Food and Agriculture. In addition, she said that she would promote Indonesian agriculture to the ASEAN people in which Indonesia is a country with a huge agricultural potential in Southeast Asia. (Rezha)

Project Manager Wikimedia Indonesia, Ivonne Kristiani is organizing Project Ganesha competition. The Project Ganesha competition is a writing one initiated by Wikimedia Indonesia and Goethe-Institut Indonesien since September 2017, and ended February. Through this project, Wikipedia, Wikimedia Indonesia product has a mission to provide free knowledge to all Indonesian people. Ivonne Kristiani at the Press Talk Project Ganesha at Goethe Haus, Jakarta, Wednesday (28/02) explained that to make it easier for local people to get knowledge, Wikipedia is now available in several regional languages, such as the regional languages of Aceh, Banjar, Banyumasan, Bugis, Java, Malay, Minangkabau, Tetun, Sundanese, and in the future, there will be the launch of Gorontalo language.

She said “…The mission to make the knowledge free and accesible by everyone is not only in Indonesia Wikipedia. We are also aware that in Indonesia there are a lot more languages spoken. That's why we have several questions of Wikipedia not just in Indonesian but we also have Acehnese, Banjar, Banyumasan, Bugis, Javanese, Melayu, Minangkabau, Tetun, Sundanese and we are also about to launch the Gorontalo Wikipedia soon.”

Ivonne Kristiani added that after 15 years, there have been more than 400,000 registered articles on Wikipedia Indonesia, and it has already about one million registered users. Based on the number of the articles, Wikipedia Indonesia is currently standing at the 25th position of the world with the most number of articles. (Egi/Trans by Rhm)

Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Mohamad Nasir launched the initial export of tempe production of the Business Incubation Center and Technology Research Center of Science Technology, in Tangerang Selatan, Banten, on Wednesday (28/2), to South Korea. The minister said, through this Business and Technology Incubation Center, Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises can take advantage of existing technology and increase value-added products. He explained, the export of tempe production with the brand Mangano, as many as two containers with a value of 70,000 US Dollar. As quoted by Antara news agency, the Minister will encourage Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in South Tangerang and surrounding areas, to utilize the Technology Research Center of Science, because it has extraordinary value. Minister hopes, the products that pass the test from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency, meets the standards, and has halal certification. (Antara)

Indonesian Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said that the imported rice is a buffer stock or extra stock to reduce the risk of shortages. On Tuesday, February 27, in his working visit in Indramayu minister Enggartiasto Lukita confirmed that the imported rice would not enter the market. He also ensured, that farmers do not have to worry on the harvest. The harvest will not be merged since there is available the imported rice. The National Logistic Agency (BULOG) has committed to buy the harvest products both rice and grain in accordance with the existing provision. He assured, with the policy of rice import, farmers will not be harmed and the harvest is definitely absorbed by BULOG. 
 
"So, once again we make sure that we use imported rice for our food stock, and do not worry because we will hold market operations as it has been conducted before. Weve set the highest retail price to  all rice traders in traditional market," Minister Enggartiasto said. 
 
Minister Enggartiasto Lukita further explained that in an effort to ensure the governments policy not to distribute the imported rice to the rice producing area, he visited Indramayu and Cirebon. During the visit, Minister Enggartiasto reviewed several Bulog warehouses namely Bulog Warehouse of Jakarta and Banten, Tegal Girang Warehouse and Singakerta Warehouse of Indramayu Regional Division. In Singakerta warehouse, the remaining rice stock of 93 tons, from the total capacity of 21,500 tons. The Minister also visited some other traditional markets to check the price of basic needs.
