Radio Remains Information Source for People in the World

The World Radio Day is commemorated every 13th February. The commemoration is expected to be a precious moment to encourage development and provide beneficial information for the people. This was stated by Advisor for Communication and Information of UNECSO Jakarta, Ming Kuok Lim at a special interview with RRI World Service -Voice of Indonesia at UNESCO Office in Jakarta recently. He further said that radio has its own power in disseminating information, especially in developing countries.

”...Radio remains important source of information for many people, especially people in the developing world and we see radio especially this year’s theme Radio and Sports as force to encourage civic participation and sustainable development,” Ming Kuok Lim said.

Moreover, Ming Kuok Lim also explained that UNESCO assumed radio to have played a major role in disseminating and encouraging values and information flow in sports. He hoped radio can be a media which encourages the world development. (VOI/AF/ALIKA/RHM)

President Joko Widodo to Revitalize the Area of Seribu Rumah Gadang in West Sumatra

Fascinated by the beauty of Seribu Rumah Gadang in West Sumatra, President Joko Widodo launched the revitalization program of the area ofSeribu Rumah Gadang in South Solok Regency, West Sumatra Province. In his message at the peak event of the Press National Day 2018 in Padang, West Sumatra, the President expressed his admiration when he passed-by the district of South Solok duringhisworking visit to West Sumatera Province. He said that the revitalization program is expected to be completed within one-year development.


“...This morning, I've instructed my minister to complete this year. And later, this revitalization is also a prototype for the existing Rumah Gadang in West Sumatra in particular, and also throughout the country. But I further said again that I and Minister of Public Work and PublicHousing saw this morning the beauty of a very beautiful village at Pariangan in Tanah Datar. I assigned all of these both in Solok Selatan and another village –Pariangan that we saw this morning at 7 o'clock, haveto be completed this year. We have to restore the landscape of the existing houses,  so that the existing traditional houses both in Solok and Pariangan will get more beautiful and beautiful,” President Joko Widodo said.


Furthermore, President Joko Widodo said that he has also instructed his ministers to revitalize the residence of journalist and senior litterateur from West Sumatra Djamaloedin Adinegoro. He added that the family of Djamaloedin Adinegoro had requested the revitalization for the construction of the Adinegoro museum which will house a lot of collections of Djamaloedin Adinegoro's writings in his lifetime. During his lifetime, Djamaloedin Adinegoro was a journalist and litterateur who had created many kinds of writings, including the first Atlas of Indonesia and Encyclopedia in Indonesian language. House Hopes Government to Protect Internet Users

A member of the House of Representatives –DPR's Commission 1, Arief Suditomo views that the government should be able to issue regulations that can protect the public in using the internet. This was disclosed at a panel discussion themed ‘Healthy Climate of Using Media, Maintaining the Existence of National Mass Media in Global Information Landscape’ that took place in Padang, West Sumatra on Thursday (8/2). He also said that the government has the authority to issue regulations that will protect the public using internet services. The regulations are expected to be issued in a short time without going through parliamentary discussions.
 
“…In this situation, I want to offer a solution in which the government in this situation can take a significant role. For example, when we actually collide with an over-the-top situation, this should be tackled as soon as possible. The government should make a ministerial regulation or Government’s Decree (PP) that can be basically issued more quickly, " Arief said. 
 
 
Arief Suditomo further expressed his hope to the media association, especially the online media to be able to contribute in formulating regulations to protect the internet user community. The contribution is expected to be made not only for the interests of the media associations but also for the protection of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. (Ndy/Trans by Rhm)

President Joko Widodo: Press Still Necessary in Social Media Era

President Joko Widodo expressed optimism that mass media is still needed amidst the leap of information technology era and the rise of social media.  This was disclosed by President Joko Widodo when opening the peak Commemoration of the National Press Day in 2018 in Padang City, West Sumatra. The President said that the presence of mainstream media and social media is still needed as a pillar of truth enforcement. He views that media as the fourth pillar of democracy is still needed to convey honest information and absorb people's aspirations.
 
“…But I believe that in an age of technological advances, in the era of abundant information and abundance of misinformation, the press is increasingly needed. The press is increasingly necessary to become a pillar of truth. The press is increasingly needed as a pillar of enforcement of facts. The press is increasingly needed as an enabling pillar of aspiration in society. The press is increasingly needed to help build a new cultural narrative and building a new narrative civilization. Photographing the ever-increasingly fast-paced society is increasingly efficient which is now spawned with an industrial revolution era 4.0 based on the digitalization of computing power and data analytics; producing a lot of innovation that we must immediately know, that we must immediately understand if we do not want to be abandoned. Once again, the press is needed to help build a new cultural narrative to build a new narrative of the civilization.”
 
In addition to the official opening by President Joko Widodo, the peak of National Press Day 2018 is also highlighted by the signing of a memorandum of understanding. The event also improves the competence of journalists between the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) and a number of parties both private and state enterprises in order to advance the national press. The peak of National Press Day 2018 also gave  award to a number of national journalists.
