Leaving Bangladesh, President Jokowi Continues His Visit to Afghanistan

On the sixth day of his five countries visit, President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo, Monday morning , January 29, 2018 left Bangladesh to continue the state visit to Afghanistan.
The Presidential plane of Indonesia-1 carrying President and Mrs. Iriana took off at 09.20 local time or 10.20 West Indonesia Time from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Arriving in Kabul, Afghanistan, President Jokowi and Mrs. Iriana makes a state visit to the Presidential Palace of Arg.
In this palace, President Jokowi is greeted President Ashraf Ghani. Furthermore, the President follows a series of state activities, namely Tete-a-Tete, bilateral meeting and gives a joint press statement.
The President will also meet with the Afghan High Peace Council (HPC) at Haram Sarai Palace (WiAfter that the President will attend a lunch together at the Presidential Palace of Arg.
In the afternoon, the President will visit the Darul Aman Palace which is also the agenda of closing the visit of President Joko Widodo and Mrs. Iriana to Afghanistan.
From Hamid Karzai International Airport, Afghanistan, President Jokowi and Mrs. Iriana along with the entourage will return to their homeland.
Following President and Mrs. Iriana on a flight to Afghanistan were Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Special Staff Coordinator President Teten Masduki, Presidential Secretariat President Heru Budi Hartono, Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs Ministry of Foreign Affairs / KPN Andri Hadi, Special Staff of President Ari Dwipayana, Military Secretary of President Marsda TNI Trisno Hendradi and Paspampres Commander Maj. President Visits Rakhine State Refugee Camp at Cox's Bazar

During a state visit to Bangladesh, President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo visited one of the Rahkhine State refugee camps in Kamp Jamtoli, Ukhiya Sub-district, Cox's Bazar District, Bangladesh, Sunday, January 28, 2018.

"I was present at this Jamtoli Refugee Camp at Cox's Bazar to first look directly at the activities of our community, by our NGOs, as well as by the government," President Jokowi said after the visit.

During the visit, President Jokowi reviewed the Indonesia Humanitarian Alliance (IHA) -The Dreamers Medical Camps, which is one of the government-funded health facilities together with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), organizations, and Indonesians.

President Jokowi also had time to interact with the refugees while providing humanitarian assistance. A number of medicines, pharmacies, to water pumps in health facilities are also not spared from the Head of State review.

Not to forget, President Jokowi expressed his appreciation to all those who have supported the government's move to provide humanitarian assistance to Rakhine State refugees.

"I also want to express my gratitude to all parties from Indonesia, including the community, humanitarian NGOs," said the President.

President Jokowi also expressed the readiness of the government and the people of Indonesia to continue assisting Rakhine State refugees residing in Bangladesh.

"Since the beginning our government has always coordinated on the needs in the field and we will provide humanitarian aid continuously," said President Jokowi.

Accompanying President and Mrs. Iriana during this visit were Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Special Staff Coordinator of President Teten Masduki, and Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Rina Soemarno.(Protocol, Press and Media Secretariat of the President)

President Jokowi Visits National Martyrs' Memorial

Starting the second day of the state visit to Bangladesh on Sunday, January 28, 2018, President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo visited the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar, Bangladesh. This monument is a place of memory of Bangladesh freedom fighters.

President Jokowi and Mrs. Iriana arrived at the monument at 08.30 local time or 09.30 West Indonesia Time and were greeted by officials from Bangladesh's Ministry of Defense.

President Jokowi and Mrs. Iriana walked to the place where the wreath were laying. President Jokowi accompanied by honor troops laid a wreath, then silence for one minute.

After laying the wreath, President Jokowi and Mrs. Iriana filled in the guest book. The activities at the National Martryrs Memorial ended with the planting of Tanjung trees.

"Bismillahirrahmanirrahim," said President Jokowi when planting the trees and watering them.

UNESCO Encourages Rainforest-Related Environmental Assessment Efforts

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is pushing for the importance of a strategic environmental assessment step in protecting the Rainforest as a world cultural heritage. Director of UNESCO Jakarta Syahbaz Khan told RRI World Service Voice of Indonesia, Friday in Jakarta, the environmental assessment step is needed to understand the environmental ecology as well as find alternative steps in the effort to maintain its sustainability.
 
"That's why we have to do what we call the strategic environmental assessment which is precisely about the same topic, where it is very sensitive not to build the road and where should be possible to find alternate. And how can we have the plantation but at the same time we conserve the outstanding universal value. So there is a lot of work which has gone in to understand the ecology, to understand the social economic aspect, and how to find the alternatives with the least impact," Shahbaz Khan said. 
 
Previously it was reported, UNESCO released a list of Endangered World Heritage Sites. There are 21 new locations that add the total to 54 locations from around the world that deserve attention. One of the locations on the list is Rainforest in Sumatra which according to UNESCO is threatened with extinction due to human activities.
Rainforest in Sumatra has an area of ​​approximately 2.5 million hectares divided into three National Parks, namely Gunung Leuser National Park, Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park and Kerinci Seblat National Park. The Sumatra Rainforest has a high biodiversity as it has population of approximately 10,000 species of plants, 580 species of birds and 201 species of mammals. (VOI-ndy / edt ahm)
